Don't trust that data entry will be correct. Errors Galore!

Data entry at Puritan Life Canvas Annuity is so bad that after submitting paperwork, you have to contact them to confirm that they entered account numbers, routing numbers, and distribution dates correctly. I have had to fix their errors on at least three policies.

The Annuity Customer Service Manager emailed me and explained what happened to my latest distribution check. They mixed up the account number and had the wrong distribution date. Here is the kicker. She did not apologize on behalf of Puritan Life. Their mistake resulted in several hours on my part of trying to figure out what happened.

I am now waiting for a third interest payment distribution because Canvas Annuity can't figure out the annual interest on a policy correctly! It's not that hard, folks. Initial investment times APY distributed on the anniversary date. I know what that number is, but they can't figure it out. Example: $150,000 x 6.55% equals $9,825. See how easy that is?

But it is going to take three attempts on their part. Truly sad and disappointing.

Response to Canvas Annuity:

You haven't yet resolved the issue fully. You made a mistake. You disbursed funds nine days early. And it appears that your solution does not account for this fact as the second distribution was short $14.99 in interest. It appears that you don't want to pay the interest on the amount that you dispersed on 5/19 - the check that I haven't received yet.

You claim that you want to address this issue with us, but you don't offer how this can happen. Please have a Vice President call us.

Issue date of the policy

I sent two checks to cover the annuity fund. At first, I didn't see the policy, even after I saw Cavas already deposit both checks and spoke to representatives a couple of times. Not until I emailed and got a reply from agent Jose the same day. Now the policy is active, and the issue date is back to the original date, so I receive all the interests. I'm satisfied with the product and service that Cavas provides.

Hard to contact

I tried calling a Canvas representative to speak about the type of annutity to list on the application, as well as that the account # may not be complete. I always get placed on hold and never have had conversation. I ended up speaking with a Puritan representative. They said I was to get a call back. That was 3 days ago.

The process was easy however the…

The process was easy however the paperwork that I received did not mentioned the 6.20% rate so I am a little bit concerned by this but waiting to see once the process is finalized to access my account online.

Follow-up suggestion

This is a follow-up to my previous review.
Just a simple suggestion to improve your service in ensuring customers are not left in the dark.
When you have received the funds, can you please send an email confirmation that funds of $$$ have been received. I have other annuities with another company and that's what they do. It puts me much more at ease knowing that the money deducted from my bank account is in good hands. Thanks.

I had always gone through an insurance…

I had always gone through an insurance agent for my annuities, so going with Canvas and no insurance agent was a new experience for me. I found the customer support people very helpful in guiding me through the process of transferring money from another annuity to Canvas.
