Payment due date and credit card paid in full bank only posted the day after and Captial One hits you with $189 interest charge to a loyal customer for 20 years and no late payments always paying complete balance.

Very scammy company - go anywhere else.

Very scammy company. I made payments on time &Y recently paid off my card & closed the account. 3 weeks later they charged me interest telling me it's residual interest. How is there residual interest when its had a zero balance for 3 WEEKS!! On top of that, they take a $75 security balance when you open the card. Now that the account is closed, it takes 5 MONTHS to get your deposit back. They can charge interest overnight, take your payment in a day or two but when it comes to a refund, it takes almost 1/2 a year. The people on the phone are completely useless, can't explain anything. Go to about any other credit card company that them. The absolute worst, scammers.

If i could rate it 00000 i would!! This is the worst, they let you apply and deposit money on it and use your own money too 🤷‍♀️ i requested to close it and want my $300 back that i deposited on it, 1st agent said, wait for 2 weeks for the refund cheque, it’s been more than 4 weeks and never receive it. I called again and 2nd agent said, i should wait for 150 business days 😤 wth, that is my own money and i’ll wait that long? HORRIBLE AND ANNOYING CAPITAL ONE!!!!

Treatment of excellent customers

On June 15, 2024 I made my last charge on my Capital One account to Wayfair Canada for a new fan. On June 19, 2024, I received a SECURITY EMAIL from Capital One stating that a FRAUDULENT CHARGE OF $19.00 was put on my card by a company called Shipment Free.
I called a representative and told them that I had not approved this charge. They said they would cancel my card and issue a new one. I have been waiting ever since, today being July 12, 2025.
I emailed Mr. Richard Fairbank, CEO, Capital One USA, a billionaire on July 28, 2024 and never received a reply. I also sent a copy of this email to Capital One
Scarborough and did receive a reply on November 4, 2024 saying they were investigating the inquiry that I had emailed.
I also sent a copy of all my documents by registered mail on August 31 2024 to Asa Harrington, President of Capital One Canada and RECEIVED NO RESPONSE BY ANYONE IN THE OFFICE !!!
My partner of 44 years passed away in April 2023 and he was the primary cardholder. I was the secondary cardholder, using my card 95% of the time over the last 15 years. We always payed much more than the minimum payment and never missed a payment. Since March, 2023 I have paid $9650.00 on my credit card.
My card has been paid completely off since November 15, 2024.
I GUESS THIS IS HOW CAPITAL ONE CANADA AND THE USA TREAT THEIR EXCELLENT CUSTOMERS ????????
CAPITAL ONE IS A LOOSER AND NEVER GET ONE OF THEIR CREDIT CARDS !!!!!

Too bad I couldn’t do negative stars

Too bad I couldn’t do negative stars, absolutely the worst company to deal with. Paid almost a $7000 bill to close the account and the agents said everything is paid and no more charges will be in the account and it will be closed, well I looked the following week while waiting for my closure letter there was an interest charge of $100. Not one of the agents that I have delt with has any clue as to what is going on and how to deal with things. Called back and had a screaming match with some guy and finally got that delt with. I will never ever get another credit card from this company.

Capital One is TRASH

TRASH Company! I sent $300 for my first credit card and without notice and being embarrassed trying to make a purchase. They cancelled my card, they say a business decision, which makes no damn sense as I paid for said card. Now I have to wait a month or 2 for my $300 back. They seem like they are worst then the scammers that call me as I thought they were reputable but I realize they are trash. PLEASE NOTE: I NEVER EVEN USED THE CARD!!!!

I have a half secured credit card of 1500 and they doubled the amount after some time. I decide to go to vacation, my debit card was stolen and one of the islands near Phuket essentially tripple charged me the originally quuoted amount.

Capital one did absolutely nothing to help. I. Couldn't pull out cash which is what every single business uses in Koh Samui.

They were of absolutley no help. I will. Be paying off my card and switching to another provider.

They’re thieves and discriminate against autistic people

I’ve been with capital one for over a decade. My limit being only 1K but after some unfortunate circumstances it was maxed. I paid off the total amount but saw there was something weird going on with my bank. I called customer service and was assured and promised they had the money and I would see it reflected on my bank statement by Sunday. Sunday comes and it’s saying I still owe. I call again confused because one of their employees had literally promised me all was well. I was transferred to a manager who listened to the call but simply said that they don’t have the money and he can’t help me. I’m upset and asked if he listened to the call. He did and also agreed I was guaranteed they had the funds but that doesn’t matter.
Now I’m out 1K and they refuse to do anything about it. I also explained that I am an autistic woman and that I took this employee for his word and that in the call you can hear me verifying and asking multiple times that they have the money and the employee saying yes. The manager also told me that their system runs behind so their representatives don’t even have the proper updated information when you call.
I was literally in tears repeating the exact words “so I call, your company assured and guaranteed me that my money was in your possession, I see the money isn’t reflected on my statement and call again, and explain to you that someone who represents your company has made a promise and guarantee to me, and we have no idea what happened with this money but you’re refusing to put it on my statement and that you’re telling me your employees can make promises to your customers while representing capital one but you don’t even have a legal obligation to stand by a promise that was made” he said yes and that there’s no single person within the capital one company that could rectify this and put the money on my statement.
Honestly, as an autistic person, the amount of stress and deregulation that happened is appalling, and apparently their company is allowed to make promises but not follow through. I don’t care where in the digital ether this 1K went, but I was assured and promised it was in their hands and now they’re claiming they don’t have it and can’t help. Honestly it’s just thievery and I feel discriminatory towards me as an autistic person because they utilized it to get away with stealing.

Horrible experience ,do not have Capital one Credit card anymore but used to have it before ,did not remove it from payee list at my bank account and sent money by mistake to capital one instead of another institution.
Can’t get my money back ,requests from my bank are constantly pushed back or ignored .
When I’m calling the only thing I can hear is that they do not have an account with my name .
But they got money from my name and refusing to send it back to me .

Cancels cards with no explanation or notification!!

I am dealing with financial issues related to a recent scam, so I opened a secured card with CapOne in December. However, the card was delayed due to the Canada Post strike. In January, I called to find out where it was and was told to wait a couple more weeks. No one mentioned it had already been cancelled!! Today, I tried to activate it but it didn’t work. I was told it had already been activated, so I tried to use it and was declined. I called CapOne and was told: “Sorry, but your card was canceled due to ‘business decisions’.” I spoke with a supervisor, and they weren’t able to tell me anything, either, nor could they explain why I wasn’t told it was canceled when I called in January. When I demanded to know where my security funds went, they told me I’d get them by paper check writhing 1-2 payment cycles. When did all this supposedly take place? January 1st!! It’s been six weeks, and I never got a letter nor an email from CapOne, informing me that my account was canceled for no reason!! They did this to my regular card, too, long before I encountered financial issues. I had been a client for several years and always made my payments on time. I also had excellent credit. They just up and canceled my card without telling me, sometime in the past two years. Never again will I use Capital One!!! The strange thing is that I have also been a customer in the US for many years and, while their customer service isn’t fantastic, I’ve never encountered anything like this. You can’t just cancel accounts with no notice or explanation!! According to the reviews I read here, I’m far from the only one.

Ignorant reps.

None of their reps speak proper french or english. After repeating your full name, date of birth and last cards digits a thousand time, you can then ask your question to be transferred to 7 different departments. Each one more incompetent then the other. If you want to experience the worst customer service of your life, just call them. Frustration garanteed.

Never have I ever had a company that…

Never have I ever had a company that only exists because of its customers treat customers like they are less then human… any other company I’ve worked with has always, even the worst acted like they valued my business. Not capital one. Longest card I’ve had lowest limit no matter what never any offers or deals like every other company I have cards with with an interest rate x2 higher then any of my other cards. Then to basically get kicked off the phone by a representative once they knew a payment had been made is a slap in the face after 10 years of never missing a payment. I would not recommend this company or its subsidiaries to anyone. Sadly this may be the only option for those with poor credit and they sure like us high credit customers know they would rather survive off people with no options then from people that pay their bills properly. This is how I feel each and every time I’m forced to communicate with them.

I was a cardholder for over 10+ years

I was a cardholder for over 10+ years. I’ve always made my payments and even received a limit increase couple times. Recently they closed my account with no notice. They said it was a “card issuer decision” when I called to find out why I couldn’t use the card. There is no reason for this to happen. Representative confirmed no email or letter sent to inform customer in regards as it’s their solely decision and do not need to inform customer as stated in their term and conditions of the card which I sure none of us read. Absolutely no explanation at all. Representative doesn’t care much. I just have their card as a back up n really don’t need it so it won’t effect me at all to trashed their card away and move on. I’m writing here to bring awareness for others so u can be prepared as they definitely doesn’t care. Stay away to save your time. Go with 5 major bank credit cards for much secure and way better services.

Customer service is THE WORST !!

Customer service is THE WORST !!! First they blocked my card because they said it was compromised (2nd time already and there was NO FRAUD)... they went through each transaction ai was able to verify and he said I'm going to proceed to cancel your card and I told him NO DON'T.. he said sorry it's already done... I asked him WHY.. he said ur card was compromised and I told him "no it wasn't, I just verified each transaction" he said we'll send you a new card anyway.. I said no... the Canada Postal strike is still on and I put extra on my card and need to use it asap (I was at the grocery store and holding up the line)... had to leave all my groceries behind. I called today... SIX WEEKS LATER and the agent told me a new card was never sent because the call got disconnected !! Are you for real.

I guess Capital One has no aspirations…

I guess Capital One has no aspirations to be anything but what they are … a second rate banking institution.
With no other alternative to receiving a compromised card, than our wonderful Canada Post. My replacement card has been in transit since mid-November.
I cannot fathom any client serving organization that does not have any contingency plan whatsoever.
Corporate incompetence on a massive scale!

Unbelievably bad customer service

Unbelievably bad customer service. They allowed someone to buy comic books and toys online on my card. I had to fight with them to not get stuck paying 900 dollars for the above junk I did not buy or receive. I cancelled the card after this experience because clearly they are not looking out for their customers. So for months now I have been calling them sitting on hold and having to repeat more times than I can believe, my name, date of birth etc, just so I can find a way to pay them. I mailed cheques for payment but then postal strike occurred. Of course, the cheques still have not reached them even though strike is over. So it is considered a missed payment. This has knocked all my hard work at making my credit rating back. So today I called Capital one literally begging them to give me a way to pay them because soon another payment is due and I can't get money to them because the only way they will accept it is by mail. They insist I can pay at bank or online but payment gets kicked back because card account is cancelled. I called 4 times today. No one spoke English well enough to understand and these incompetent employees hung up on me three times. Every time I call back I have to reiterate address, name etc over and over. I spoke to a Supervisor today, and somehow she even managed to disconnect call. I called back and was hung up on while on hold 2 more times. I was advised Supervisor who hung up on me would call me back shortly. No one called me back. If you need a credit card go anywhere but here. They are literally the dumbest possible human beings I have ever dealt with.

I was a cardholder for over 10 years. I’ve always made my payments and even received a message congratulating me on always paying on time. This month, December 2024, they closed my account with no notice. They said it was a “back office decision”. There is no reason for this to happen. Absolutely no explanation at all.
