Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 89 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers reported significant dissatisfaction with the car hire service, citing unhelpful staff and long waiting times. The booking process was criticized for unclear information about requirements like full names or specific credit cards, often leading to cars being refused. Initial low prices were misleading, as unexpected additional charges and mandatory extra insurance doubled the final cost. Some people were dissatisfied with the lack of support, often being denied a car and losing prepaid funds, or forced to pay for new rentals or additional insurance due to unaccepted payment methods or booking discrepancies. The refund process was a major point of contention, with many struggling to recover costs for services not received.

One more 1 star review for Ryanair car rental

I paid for the car rental at the same time as booking my flight 4 months before departure. The status was ‘pending’ and I was reassured this was normal. The status never updated despite the payment coming off my credit card at the time. Closer to the time, I was told my query was being expedited and would take 2 working days, the day before departure I was told my query would be dealt with, but within 7 working days….but I should “go ahead and book another car with them” (at the higher last minute price that was £300 more) and they would refund the cheaper lower price from my booking in January (how nice of them to take even more money- not). I am here now on my holiday, out of pocket from using taxis and deciding whether to hire a car for a limited number of days at a higher cost from someone else. I wish I had seen these other reviews but I isually have a good experience with Ryanair for flights. Given the volume of poor reviews, their car rental service should be referred, for fraud!!

Shameful car hire. Dishonest company.

This was our worst car hire experience in 40 years. They refused to take payment at Dublin airport from my debit card. They refused to take payment from my partner's credit card even though she had used it to pay the fee on the website. They insisted on imposing a huge extra charge simply to allow us to use my partner's credit card. Lesson learnt. Never use Ryan Air again.

Communication is very poor and it is…

Communication is very poor and it is not clearly stated anywhere that you need a personal VISA. My wife was not allowed to take the car even though the VISA was in her name. They do suggest paying EXTRA in cash for another car and when you confront Ryanair about this you get VERY poor service. SO NEVER rent a car via Ryanair you will lose your money!!!!!

Extremely Disappointed with Ryanair Car Hire Customer Service

I am beyond frustrated with the appalling level of service I’ve received from Ryanair Car Hire. For the past three weeks, I’ve been emailing back and forth, only to be constantly reassured by different advisors that my refund was being processed and the money would be back in my account soon.

Now, after wasting my time and energy, I’m suddenly being told I need to go through an entirely different process and submit a bunch of documents—something that could and should have been explained from the very beginning. It honestly feels like I’ve been strung along with empty promises just to be brushed off later with a generic apology and a list of hoops to jump through.

Why didn’t anyone mention this required process weeks ago? What exactly were the advisors doing the entire time—just buying time and avoiding real help? This level of disorganization and lack of proper communication is absolutely unacceptable.

I feel completely let down, misinformed, and disrespected as a customer. I will be escalating this further and sharing my experience wherever possible, because no one deserves to be treated this way. Avoid Ryanair Car Hire if you want transparency and decent customer support—because you won’t find it here.

MALAGA CLICK RENT - DISGRACEFUL!

Sent: Thursday, March 27, 2025 5:32 PM
To: Ryanair
Subject: ISSUE regarding Clickrent

This is our complaint to Ryanair which we cannot proceed with as it doesn't recognise our details!

Hi,

I recently booked through you a rental car with Clickrent. This was on a visit to Maliga on 19th February.

We checked the car over and it seemed fine. We then drove only 9 Km to our holiday apartment. When we went to use the car again we noted that the front tyre was bald through to the wires on just the one quarter of the tyre. It was clearly obvious that this must have been covered by being parked over this part of the tyre when we checked over the vehicle.

We rang the assistance number and they sent a recovery truck to take the car back to their depot. They then claimed that we had somehow caused this damage by driving over something. As such we would have to pay 471 Euro before they would provide a replacement car. We obviously objected profusely as an experienced driver, I know that whilst one can take a chunk out of the side wall of a tyre by driving into or over something. It is not at all possible to wear a tyre down to its metal core along one quarter of it side by simply driving over something. Or indeed over a distance of only 9 Km.

It was therefore clearly apparent that they had allowed the vehicle to be rented to a family with a young child in such a dangerous state. Whether or not it had been deliberately parked so as to cover this up, is of course unprovable. Whilst we argued this point the staff member just rudely stated, the damage has been caused, so either pay up or walk, as we wont replace the vehicle. To which we stated that if that was the case, we were going to report the matter to the police, as it was not only illegal but day light robbery. To which the staff member said, do what you like and walked off. We then spent some 10 to 15 minutes on the phone calling the police. After which and prior to the police arriving, she came back with a change of attitude saying she had spoken to her manager as she had allegedly agreed with our argument and that it had been agreed to let us have a replacement Afterall.

The police then attended and she got annoyed that we had called them when she had then agreed to rent us another car. However had we not been on the phone I doubt this would have been the case. She then went onto accuse us of lying to the police about the firms first stance on the matter.

Rather than loose any more of the holiday having then already lost half a day, we took the replacement vehicle and left.

However when we returned the vehicle and whilst there were no other issues with our car when returned, we couldn’t help overhearing another customer seeking help.

She had just collected a car, but was having difficulty opening the rear passenger doors. She first spoke to me thinking I was a member of staff, hence I know about her issue. She then found a member of staff, who when approached told her she shouldn’t be driving if she didn’t know the simple functions relating to a car and then walked off and left her to it. Finally she drove it back in and had to block access before anyone gave her any assistance. The attitude and rudeness of how she was spoken to was not too dissimilar to when we first had trouble.

It seems such may be rife throughout this company and their poor customer service and attitude rubs off on Ryan Air as your contracted supplier.

It seems they seek every opportunity to claim customers deposits wherever possible and to make it difficult to argue by putting people into impossible positions such as being stranded if they don’t agree etc. if this is their way of profiting its atrocious.

How do I ensure, that if ever booking through Ryan Air again, that we do not then get a car provided by this company. Illegally dangerous cars with rude and abrupt staff is unacceptable and we will not be using you again if this company remains a supplier. Please advise how we avoid this company and have your providing the service via a more reputable and reliable professional supplier in the future.

This is said because your site does not provide the suppliers name until after the booking has been made and you have taken the payment. Can we then cancel altogether flights and cars etc. without loosing any depositor any other payment, if this company should then pop up again on a booking in the future?

Yours truly

Toby Jenkins

What seemed a good deal turned out to…

What seemed a good deal turned out to be a expensive trip:
Car hire through Ryanair offer with Goldcar in Mallorca. Initial offer was 30€ and without any warning, we had to pay 200€ in addition at the airport. Never again!

super customerservice

I rented a car through Ryanair Car Hirer. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the rental company on site. I was forced to spontaneously rent a car from another provider. This was almost three times as expensive.
Ryanair refunded the rental price and the difference without any problems. High praise from me!

Don't trust them

As other posters have said - look for more reputable companies. We thought we'd got a great deal via Ryanair to pick up a car from Thrifty at Seville Airport. However, Ryanair changed the flight times and, despite contacting the car hire company in advance about this, we were charged a "late fee" which doubled the cost of the booking. We were stuck at the airport, late at night, with two kids in tow, so had no choice but to pay this to get the car. I've just gone through the complaints system to try to get my money back. However, I've been told that, since I "agreed" to the charge, there's nothing they are prepared to do.

Don't pay for full insurance as you are not covered :(

Booked a car with Ryanair for what seemed like a great deal. 120 for five days with FULL coverage insurance.
Got to the car rental place in Murcia and the guy working there asked if I wanted full insurance for 136 a week, I said no thanks I have full coverage and he smiled and said it is not full coverage and in fact it is not worth the paper it is written on. Had the option to pay a 1000 euro deposit or take out the insurance. Well go directly through centuaro next time as it would have been cheaper to book with them.

Ryanair totally false

Ryanair totally false. I booked a car hire for 5 days at Alicante airport, Ryaniar website gave me a price for 5 days for the car hire at a reasonable price, I paid €87 through the website. When I got to Alicante airport I had to pay the full price of the car hire, which I accidentally did because I thought I was just paying 150€ for a fuel deposit, but it was actually €365, which I didnt know until I checked my online banking a few days later. So apart from fuel deposit, I paid €215 for car hire, and I still dont know what the money I paid to Ryanair website was or has gone, no-one at the car hire can tell me apart from 'possibly for the insurance'!! Total misrepresentation by Ryanair, leading people to think they are paying in full for a car hire, but they're not. A clear scam. I did receive an invoice a few days later from 'Booking Transport Services' for the amount I paid Ryanair, and that stated 'car hire, 5 days.......and the amount I paid!! Total scam, dont use Ryaniar car hire, go direct to the company at the airport, they will be on the internet!
Also, once booked through Ryanair website, I received a confirmation that the car was booked with Goldcar. So upon arrival I went to Goldcar, no booking here, somehow managed to find out the booking was with thrifty car hire [part of Hertz]
Also, even up to the time of my flight, I checked for details of my car hire on the Ryanair website and it still said 'pending'
What a total shambles, and scam. Just a money making scheme to get more money from you and then you have to pay full at the airport for the car hire. Shame on you Ryanair!

You not getting what you believe you booked or agreed too, look for alternative well known providers to avoid disappointment.

My family and I were very disappointed when we arrived in Milan with what we believed to be a complete hire car booking made through Ryanair along with our flights. It began with not being able to locate the collection point, the hire centre was off site and the shuttle to transfer not marked. We spent 40 minutes just trying to work out where we needed to go. This was all outside of the airport and in the rain, we had to ask an alternative provider where to go etc. Once we finally got to the shuttle and were transported to the hire centre where we were presented with a number of additional costs and deposits on our booking. At this point there was very little alternative but to accept the offering. Due to the language barrier we were unable to understand or challenge the terms. We were provided our car and proceeded on our way. The car was ideal and perfect for our stay providing space and comfort for all five of us. Returning the car was made quite straight forward which was useful as we were in a rush to get back through the airport. It transpires that we had entered an additional agreements and insurance adding significant cost to our hire. On our return to the UK I challenged this service with Ryanair thin agreed to investigate. The conclusion of the investigation led to Ryanair providing a refund for their element, however, unable to do anything about the third party. The third party was one of their suppliers taking advantage of customers. We booked the car hire through Ryanair air as we believed it to be a confident and reliable option.

We will not be using this option for any future trips.

Complete joke don't book hire car through Ryanair

Booked a holiday through loveholidays, the flights are with ryanair so I booked a hire car through them. For whatever reason I wasn't given an option to select who the main driver out of my friend and I was going to be, and it made him the main driver (needed to be me). Got onto ryanair straight away and was back and forthing emails like an owl to both ryanair and the hire car provider, both telling me that the other has to fix the issue (turns out it was ryanair that were supposed to be fixing it). So after like 5 days trying to convince someone at ryanair to even begin to help me, long story short I got on the phone with them and was told we have 3 options. 1: pay to add an additional driver (didn't once mention i wanted to do that and i think it was like £60) 2: PAY TO CHANGE the driver which was also around the same price (utter joke) 3: cancel the booking and rebook it (a.k.a don't get my money back for a week and hage the same exact problem when rebooking it, also the same car was then costing more just days apart). Simple fix of a problem that wasn't even my fault turned into a week long ordeal to which basically ended in me not getting a solution without being even more out of pocket 👍 Nice one Ryanair

Never rent a car via Ryanair again!

I booked my flight to Turin and i also added a car with Ryanair, at first i didn't receive the confirmation email for the car but after 3 hours of chatting with some bot finally i managed to chat with a human and got my email with the details. The car rental company was AutoVia and the car was a fiat 500x, once i landed in Turin i went to the AutoVia stand asking for the car i booked, provide drivers License and passport as requested, confirmation details etc. The operator then asked me if i also had an Italian drivers license. Obviously as I don't have anymore as it was converted to a UK driver license as per normal procedure. Then he ask me if i can produce a British Passport as the nationality of the document need to match. I was astonished never before i heard such a BS, as if one could get a British passport just by converting a driver license. Long story short i was denied the car i paid for. The rental company few meters apart had absolutely no issue renting me a different car costing me 4 time the price already paid with Ryanair. Trying to get the refund is a nightmare, PayPal sided with Ryanair who claim the service was provided but it wasn't. I have receipts from the other rental to corroborate that. Unbelievable never again.

Do not hire a car on the Ryanair website

Booked Ryanair flights to Tenerife 19-24 Nov. 24 AND hired a car through the Ryanair app.
for these days. Booking date 27 Oct.
Got no booking reference for car (they have my email)—was debited €183 on my credit card for the car (I have that separate transaction reference on statement -the €183
was paid directly to Ryanair not the car hire company)
€183 just stolen from me with NO redress-going around in circles with their complaints centre.
Under NO circumstances book car hire on Ryanair website.
..silver lining- ended up with Autoriesen in south Tenerife airport- highly recommend

Stranded in the middle of nowhere by Ryanair

I arrived at the rental car pick up place indicated by the reservation just over 15 minutes late, however there was no vehicle at the designated pickup spot (Krakow Plaszow station)...not only that, there wasn't even an Express Car Rental office, or any car rental offices of any kind.
I tried to find an Express Car Rental office at the Main Krakow train station and there wasn't one.
I didn't realize that because this was a 'random guy dropping off a car in the suburbs' I was left in the middle of the dark backwoods of Krakow with no clue how to proceed and no way to even speak to someone. Never did get a car. Now of course they're saying, 'well too bad, no refund for you!'
Why on earth Ryanair would recommend such a sketchy car rental 'company' is completely beyond me. Shockingly unprofessional.
