My experience at Careerist

I enjoyed the structure of the program and the 3 nights a week on Zoom with the class. There was always something new to learn and interesting to me about the role of a QA engineer. Following the internship and hands on experience, it helped to pull in all the knowledge that I learned from the night classes on Zoom. I also enjoyed attending the morning meetings during the internship because it gave me that experience in the field as a QA manual tester and working on projects as a team. Also, my career coach helped me tremendously and he was always supportive of me. He was a big help to me, in preparing me for the transition into the tech industry. I’m still new in the field, but I want to return back to the school in the near future because there’s also another course in the program that I’m curious about learning. I trust their program and I know that they’re going to teach me what i want to learn in the industry.

General

I finally landed a job after a little over a year. It was a long road and not an easy one. I’ll first say some general things and then get into what I think Careerist should implement and is it worth even signing up.

Having no IT experience, I signed up for both the manual QA course as well as the Automation course. I finished the Manual QA after 3 months. It was straight forward. I did feel like I learned a lot considering I didn’t have any past knowledge of anything IT. So it was helpful in that sense. However, if you are the type of person that is a self-learner you can completely do without this course. There are tons of resources you can use to learn the basics that they taught in the manual QA course. They also have an internship. I would use the word internship loosely that they provide. It was a good experience in that it can build up your confidence with certain skills you learned, but to call it a true internship is a stretch. All in all, the material they teach you in the manual course are things you can learn on your own and you really don’t need to spend your money on it. However, if you are completely new and just like something that has structure then it can be a good fit, but not necessary.

After I finished the manual QA course you get to work with a career coach. I feel like this is a waste of time. You are assigned a career coach where they help you with interview questions, which is a waste. Just study the 14 interview questions on your own and you’ll be fine. You don’t need to have an interview coach that tells you you need to talk slower or quicker or expand on your answers or just say what is provided for you. It’s so subjective and the experience itself I felt was a waste. What was good is that they help you with your resume. That I would say was the best thing that came out of it. The preparation for the interview was pointless. During my interviews I got asked I believe 2 or 3 of the questions that they provided, but they were those generic questions I feel like everyone gets asked. What they need to implement during the coaching phase are technical/whiteboard interview questions.

So, after the coaching I started to apply to jobs. I learned very quickly that just having the manual QA knowledge wasn’t enough, but for a couple of months after I finished the manual course I kept applying to jobs. I only used LinkedIn, Monster, and Indeed. I also would reach out to recruiters and I was actually surprised that a handful of recruiters reached out to me from LinkedIn as well as from Monster. I had one interview about 2 weeks after my manual class was over and it was awful. I got through the first part just fine, but the second part was a technical part and I did awful. This is where I think Careerist needs to help its students out. The technical interview/whiteboard part was a challenge for me. I don’t know if everyone who tries out for a manual position has to do whiteboard type technical questions, but it was the first time I experienced it and it was an hour or my life that felt like an eternity. So, after that I did not get anymore interviews and I was struggling finding just manual QA jobs. It seemed like every job posting wanted you to know a little automation, so I decided to take a break from the job hunt and register for the automation class.

The automation class was fun and I enjoyed it. I didn’t finish it in the sense that I didn’t do the career coach aspect of the course because I thought that was pointless because they don’t do any technical/whiteboard type of assistance and I didn’t bother with the internship because as I mentioned earlier it isn’t a true internship it’s more of a confidence boost which isn’t a bad thing, but I felt my time would be better spent job hunting. So after I got through the actual course work I decided to job hunt again.

This time around I wanted to prepare for the technical/whiteboard types of questions so I got a tutor with Wyzant as well as with Interview Kickstart. They weren’t cheap, but I needed the help cause those technical/whiteboard interviews are not fun, especially if you already have anxiety in interviews. I wish Careerist would help prepare you more for the technical interview rather than basic questions anyone can just study on their own. Also, the JAS service that Careerist has that can help you apply to jobs is pointless. Don’t even bother with that. With my tutors help I was able to learn how these whiteboard interviews work and get a job as a QA analyst.

It was a long road for me. It took a little over a year and looking back I honestly don’t think I would have chose Careerist. It wasn’t bad, but to me it wasn’t worth the price. I think their curriculum is good and what they teach is practical, but they need to get rid of JAS and begin to implement something about the technical/whiteboard challenges into their career coaching curriculum.

Beware ! Fraudsters from Ukraine are preying on your wallet!

That is a scam company who do not care about your career prospects , rather care about jacking up their bank account . First of all , their promises of " landing a job within 3 months ,even before graduating / the job market is seeking desperately for QA engineers / QA engineers are eyeing for 6 figure salary bla bla " are absolute deception . there are 100s of graduates who studied and got trained in their "miracle" QA testing course but still struggling in securing a job BECAUSE THE EMPLOYERS NEED SOMEONE WITH IT DEGREE . Unfortunately , THAT SCAM ARTISTS DO NOT SET OUT THOSE NUANCES TO THE STUDENTS PRIOR TO THE INCEPTION OF THE COURSE . Are you wondering why ?? BECAUSE THEY CARE ABOUT ONLY GETTING RICH AT THE BACK OF BLUE COLLAR AMERICA !! Do not waste your time and money on those con artists . Their course are completely useless

Careerist Python course…

I recently completed a Python course that exceeded my expectations in many ways. The instructors were exceptional, providing clear instructions and ample support throughout the course. Whenever I struggled with homework problems, there were plenty of mentors available to help, which was incredibly reassuring.

The course structure was well-designed with progressively challenging material and lots of practice problems to reinforce learning. The feedback on homework assignments was thorough and constructive, helping me improve consistently.

Towards the end, the difficulty did ramp up, and some concepts became more confusing. However, the course accommodated my pace when I fell behind, allowing me the time needed to catch up without feeling rushed.

Overall, it was a rewarding learning experience, and I feel much more confident in my Python skills now.

I’ve always worked in “blue collar” industries and didn’t think anything in technology was something I’d ever pursue, but since I’ve completed the manual QA course my confidence has never been higher. I honestly wish I had done this sooner. Each instructor was down to earth and answered every question making the lessons easy to understand plus being able to go back and rewatch if I needed to was a big plus. My career coach was relatable and encouraging every step of the way. Viktor guided me and gave me tips to get my job search broader and my resume noticed and more appealing.

I had a great experience with Careerist You can watch videos of sessions as part of the program's many tools, which let you make up any classes you missed. There are quizzes all through the course that are a great way to see how much you learn. One of the best parts of the program is the internship, which is made even better by having a personal coach who helps you find a job and takes away a lot of the stress surrounding the process. I had a great experience with the customer service team. They always answered quickly and made sure my issues were fully handled. Careerist has a great QA program🙌

Careerist has been one of the best boot camps I've experienced in the QA Engineering educational ecosystem. They have a 360-degree learning experience, including classroom instruction, internal internships, external internships, and interview preparation. In addition, there is a lot of guidance for students on how to write an eye-catching resume and author one's LinkedIn profile to maximize visibility. If you or anyone you know has the desire to break into tech or re-enter the tech profession after a hiatus, then TAKE THIS COURSE! You will not regret the experience and support given by industry leaders.
