Overall a pleasant experience with CEA

Overall a pleasant experience with CEA. The staff were friendly and willing to help and I really enjoyed getting to know them. The elective itself was interesting, and it was a good way to gain clinical exposure overall.

However, some of the advertised specialties on the website are not actually available, and the clinics are arranged via a booking system, with only select specialties available including general surgery, nephrology, general medicine, obs&gynae and sports medicine, with a maximum of 1-2 people per clinic. As an aspiring surgeon, theatre time was important to me, however this wasn't readily available and had to be specially arranged, so it's worth considering. However, it's to be noted that the staff were extremely accommodating and worked very hard to make that happen for me, so it was extremely appreciated.

The country itself is of course beautiful and teeming with amazing wildlife and nature. With over 30 islands that make up SVG, you can explore many nearby, like Bequia, which has beautiful white sand beaches and great food and bars. Also, CEA arranged an all expenses paid Tobago Cays trip and Sunset cruise, both of which were highlights for me as we got to swim with turtles, starfish, stingrays, and dolphins swam beside our boat.

Furthermore, you can arrange for excursions to waterfalls, the volcano, 'La Soufriere', salt ponds etc, with a wonderful gentleman named Tucker who was an amazing guide to all of those places and has a tangible, refreshing passion for nature (he also taught me how to swim!).

Overall, I'd recommend going, especially if you want a more relaxed vibe, however clinically, it might need improvement if you are able to immerse yourself into the medicine.

100% Recommend!

I loved my elective in St Vincent with CEA! The staff are so friendly and helpful, the accommodation is lovely, and there’s so much to explore in and around St Vincent. Would 100% recommend going on your elective with CEA! I went on my own but made so many lovely friends and had the best time!

Incredible Medical Elective Experience

I had an amazing experience with CEA during my 4 week medical elective in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

I reached out to CEA to organise my elective and they guided me through the application process. They answered all my questions promptly and were very helpful throughout the process.

When I reached SVG I was warmly welcomed at the airport and driven to the accommodation. The house was clean and well equipped. All the doors had password protected locks so I felt very safe during my stay. The view from the balcony was unreal, and enjoyed the coastal view sunset in the evenings. In addition to this, the pool was well maintained and had a great outdoor area for relaxing and enjoying the weather. Any issues in the house were dealt with promptly by the excellent staff on site, who were easily contactable and approachable.

I really enjoyed the clinical placements, and all the doctors I met were very enthusiastic and kind. Being able to pick and choose what clinics I wanted to attend at the start of the week gave me great flexibility, which I thought was really convenient.

SVG is a fantastic country, with plenty to do, see and drink! I particularly enjoyed the Tobago Cays trip organised by CEA, getting to swim with fish and turtles, and see the beautiful islands was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I want to say a huge thank you to Khari and all the staff who made my elective experience unforgettable. I recommend anyone looking to do an elective in the Caribbean to do it with CEA!!!

Best elective ever!

Had the most amazing 4 weeks in St Vincent and would absolutely do it all again in a heart beat. It was the perfect mixture of placement and clinics in the local community with friendly consultants in wide range of specialties, as well as exploring what the island has to offer. The boat trips included in the elective were amazing and everyone we came in contact with was very welcoming and friendly. The staff who looked after us (Shanique and Janelle) were brilliant! They helped us all settle in, organised our trips and were always there for advice or to answer our questions.
I went on this elective as a solo student but quickly made friends and straight away felt comfortable at the Villa.

Would highly recommend for anyone who wants to get the most out of their elective, explore different islands and also have an opportunity to relax and enjoy a few cocktails!

Medical Elective

I was part of a group of 6 medical students from the UK who decided to do our 8 week elective in St Vincent with Caribbean Electives Abroad. We all had such an amazing time, with the help of the amazing villa staff Janelle and Shanique we were given an induction and shown how to get around the island. The accommodation was in very good condition with a lovely pool and terrace. We felt safe and secure with locks on the main doors and the bedrooms. The kitchen was big enough for everyone and there was plenty of equipment provided. The clinics were released every week with a range of specialities, and most of these were very close to the villa. The doctors at the clinics were friendly and took time to teach. The included boat rides were a great aspect and everyone in our group thought our trip to the Tobago Cays was the highlight of the whole 8 weeks! We swam with turtles and other marine life! The staff were happy to listen to any feedback or answer any questions. The location of the villa is close to plenty of shops and restaurants/hotels for different food choices. Nothing was too much for CEA and they often went above and beyond to give us an amazing experience, for example assisting us in booking trips to the other Grenadine islands (Bequia) and showing us the best places for lunch! We would all recommend CEA for a medical electice!

Medical elective

CEA provided such an unforgettable elective experience in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I came here for 6 weeks and have honestly had the most amazing time. The accomadation is beautiful and in an amazing location with everything either a walk or a bus away. The staff members, Janelle and Shanique, couldn’t have been more helpful. They were always available for advice and kept us constantly updated.
Clinics were so flexible and allowed exposure to so many different specialities as well as time in both public and private clinics.
During our time here, we managed to explore what the island had to offer as well as explore some of the grenadines - truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The sunset cruise and Tobago Cays trip included were both amazing trips allowing us to experience more than we otherwise would’ve. Both really well organised.
Overall, an amazing elective company and would recommend this company to anyone who wants an amazing elective experience.

A trip of a lifetime!

A trip of a lifetime!
I can’t recommend this company enough for your future elective. I had the most amazing time on the beautiful island of Saint Vincent and had the opportunity to visit multiple islands whilst there. The accommodation was beautiful and the staff members Janelle and Shanique were always in their office on site to help with anything we needed. We met lots of friends also staying in the villa for their elective from all over the UK. It felt like a big family with the students and the amazing staff members and I was so so sad to leave them!
Clinics were very good and flexible and I was able to learn and see so much.
The sunset trip and the Tobago keys trip included in the elective was amazing and I will never forget swimming with the turtles!
I once again would recommend to everyone and I can’t wait to return and visit in the future!

My elective in SVG!

I arranged my 6 week elective in St Vincent and the Grenadines with Caribbean Elective abroad. Prior to going, I didn’t know anyone who had visited either St Vincent or gone on elective with CEA, so it was a bit of a gamble but it was 100% worth it.

From seamlessly being collected at the airport, to being taken to pick up groceries, the most gorgeous villa with its own pool and stunning views to having a 24/7 contact on the island, the service provided by CEA was excellent.

The elective programme is ideal for anyone who wants to travel outside of Europe but is perhaps a bit nervous travelling on their own. This gives you the opportunity to push yourself out of your comfort zone whilst travelling somewhere new, but meet other medical students along the way, all whilst being looked after by a lovely team who all grew up on the island and know it really well. I felt having connections on the island meant I was able to integrate myself in island life a lot better than if I self arranged my elective.

St Vincent and the Grenadines itself is beautiful. It’s far less developed than other Caribbean islands despite its proximity to Barbados and St Lucia. I felt like I had a really authentic experience and saw a side of medicine very different to that of the UK. Despite not many tourists being present on the island, the local people are incredibly friendly, I felt safe and welcomed at all times. The Grenadines are exactly what you picture when you think of the Caribbean, white sand beaches, clear waters and palm trees making this elective the perfect mix of work and play.

Overall, I can’t recommend this elective programme enough!
