Dear Alexandre,

Thank you for your message and for the detailed explanation. I understand this situation is frustrating, especially with your motorbike out of order for such a long time.

To make sure this gets solved quickly and clearly, I kindly ask you to do the following:

Please send one clear email to info@carmo.nl explaining:
- Order number 1031668
- What you received
- What is missing or incorrect
- The DPD tracking number (05227988387811)

Once everything is in one single email, I will personally pick this up and sort it out with you — whether that means resending parts, correcting a mistake, or finding another proper solution.

That will help avoid confusion and ensure nothing gets overlooked.

Thank you for your patience, and we’ll make sure this is resolved.

Kind regards,

Very quick support and a job well done!

I am amazed by the team at Carmo. I was having issues with a Mariner 60hp boat engine from 1979. I figured out that the CDI had died and so i sent it to Carmo. Within 2 working days after they received the package, I got a mail from Roald that he had repaired it. I paid the invoice and had the CDI in my hands about 3 working days later. The engine now runs flawlessly and I want to thank the team at Carmo for helping me out when I was ready to give up on the engine. Good support, great experience and a fair price!

Thank you!!!

Best regards,
Mattias

Do not trust this company

Do not trust this company. Sent a Harley Davidson ECU to them back in Sept/Oct was told no faults found. Have spent over £500 having the bike looked at and changing lots of stuff. Everything was pointing at the ECU so bought a new ECU and the bike is now working as it is. They are keep closing the case and won't even particularly refund me. Reply back without why they have closed the case just reply to say he is only a mechanic.

Edit to reply.
I understand in it all works, thanks. On your website you state that the way your system works it will tell you of faults. If that's not the case you should advertise that then.

Hi Teri.

We have done what we could, with your unit, you can understand that we cannot make money from only testing units, so repairing them is our top priority, we cannot repair something we cannot test defective, I understand that electronics is something hard to understand, but it is not as easy as a defective tyre (as example).
Again, we have tried to help with the best of intent, hope you understand.
All the best,
Kevin

Decent product but appalling support.

I have to say I’ve been disappointed with my experience with your company. First of all, the unit arrived with no instructions whatever and was described as “plug and play” on your website. It was far from this. When connected via the small harness you supplied I had no spark. This turned out to be because pins 1 and 4 were swapped in the link harness. I did try connecting without the harness and this immediately blew a fuse on the bike when I operated the starter – I now realise bacause the XBR CDI has a +12 feed on pin 5 which you have broken in the link harness. When I cut this wire and instead fed a direct earth to the CDI, connecting without the link harness, I had success.

I understand that this positive feed may have a function in retarding the ignition when the starter is operated, however cannot find any documentation to this effect. I would have hoped that you would incorporate this feature, or at least point out to the user that it existed.

I have in no way been helped by you other than your providing a link to an information sheet which you should have given me at the outset. You should also have provided details of the advance curve and other characteristics. I have spent hours in my garage checking other components (entirely unnecessarily) but have been greatly helped by members of an online forum who have made many helpful suggestions. I should not have needed to do any of this. The only positive aspect is that I have now learned a great deal about CDI systems.

It has become plain to me that the unit which you sell as specific to the XBR500 is instead a generic unit. This raises questions in my mind as to what the advance curve is and whether this has been tailored to the motorcycle or – as I suspect – you have merely used a standard curve which may or may not suit the engine characteristics. I cannot believe that you have actually supplied one of these units to an XBR500 owner and that they have fitted it without problems.

It may interest you to know that in desperaion I bought a generic “pit bike” CDI unit complete with coil from ebay at a cost of less than £12. This was delivered to me today and I find that it replaces your unit directly and seems to give similar performance. It’s interesting that the pinouts on this unit are identical to those on your unit WITHOUT the link harness ie with B/W to pin 1 and red/black to pin 6. I accept that its internal components may be inferior but am left with the feeling that I could have saved myself £100 or so by purchasing this in the first place.

Useless voltage "regulator"

I purchased a mosfet voltage regulator for ktm 990 Adventure, just for upgrade my motorbike.

The voltage regulator arrived with a different code that I purchased (ordered CARR9714-KTM received CARR694-KTM)
Carmo's reply:
You received the correct regulator, the housing/body from the regulator is mostly the 694

Best regards,
Robert
Carmo

After less than 500km the voltage regulator started giving same problems randomly (low voltage to mantein motorkibe system and battery charge).
Shipped to Carmo for replace or repair.
Carmo's reply:
Hello Claudio,
We have tested the regulator you send beck, it works 100%.
We will send you back the regulator after payment for the test cost: (28 euros)
Your Carmo Electronics Team,

After paying more than 200 euros I solved by installed again the original one (ktm with 78000 km).

My experience with Carmo was very bad, waste time and money.

Hi Claudio, we are very sorry you feel this way. We have been working very hard on the development of our regulators and we are very proud of the result.

We have a very sophisticated testing station for the regulators where we are able to test the regulators on different power outputs and rpm's. With this we also test it for more than 30 minutes and even heat up the regulator.

When all this will be within range we can say the regulator is in working condition.

We are very flexible regarding warranties, but when there is nothing wrong with a product there is nothing for us to do.

Hope this will change your mind about things, and wish you the best.

Looked everywhere for ECU repair

Looked everywhere for ECU repair ,test. Company.
After reading about all the other companies that do this work.
No company can make everyone happy.
I chose Carmo.
They run there business a little different. But I sent them my unit. It tested positive and in good order.
They even sent a video of my test.
Kevin, and his crew are the real deal.
And I recommend.
Will go back to them anytime I need this kind of help.

I ordered a T.C.I

I ordered a T.C.I. for my xv1000 it didn't even work. i was upset but had a spare so forgot about it for awhile. i had some electronics experience then i decided to take it apart to see if there's something that needed soldering it was incased in a gel, i carefully removed the gel to inspect the circuit board. what i say looked like it was faked to look like a circuit board it made no sence and would never work the way its wired

I sent a CDI for repair

I sent a CDI for repair, they stated they could indeed repair it, I paid for it and they shipped it back. The unit still has shorts across pins, and they won't reply to any emails about warranty or replacement.

Unit has been sent back for warranty repair 7/28, will provide updates here and modify review pending the outcome.

9/22, first tested the unit with an ohm meter per factory specs, seeing 100-300k of resistance where there should be none. Stuck it in the atv on the off chance that it would function. Immediately blows the 20amp within a second of switching the key on. I requested the difference between the "repaired" and "we cannot repair it" cost.

We cannot find any emails of you after may 31.

Carmo

UPDATE 27/09

Hello Curtis,

The resistance is a lot… 355.000 Ohm, that’s nearly open.
The table does not show resistance, only O, X, or O.L. When I must select one of them, I also will select O.
We never use this kind of test, we only work on simulation basis, just like in the quad, which is the best kind of test possible.

Roald did repair your unit and tested it again after repair and it works 100% as it should be.
The cause of defect is most probably a short circuit in the speed sensor or the wiring to the speed sensor. This could also be the reason why the fuse blows.
After repairing the CDI unit and without solving the problem (short circuit in the speed sensor) the fuse will blow.
Please check the speed sensor and the wiring to that sensor.

Quick but no repair

Shipping my defective ignition box was easy to their UK address and the repair shop responded within 3 days. But - they couldn't fix it. Their communications were quick and useful. Purchased a voltage regulator and the defective ignition unit and the voltage regulator were in my hands 5 days later. Would have given them 5 stars if they'd repaired the unit.

CARMO ELECTRONICS - Updated review.

CARMO ELECTRONICS.

They could do what they claim on their website.

This is what they claim:

"Within 3 days
Fixed prices (go to prices)
Cause of defect
1 Year warranty!

Carmo electronics is able to repair a defective ignition and injection system very accurate and reliable. You only have to send your ignition/injection system to our company. Carmo electronics has developed a very unique simulation protocol to generate every possible kind of signal your motorcycle may generate. Repair is executed with high-grade parts and guarantees maximum reliability. Repaired units are finished with a very strong and durable coating that protects electronic parts for the influence of extreme weather circumstances.

The main benefit of repairing a unit in contrast with buying a more expensive new one, is the indication of the possible cause of defect. Even if the malfunction is not in the ignition/injection unit, but elsewhere in the electronic system. This information is supplied totally free of charge together with the repaired ignition unit."

The reality:

I sent my CDI via their UK address. It took nearly three weeks to get there. They blamed brexit, but other items sent to other addresses in Holland arrived within four days.

Their "ticket" system is user hostile. It's impossible to get in. The password reset link email it claims to send never arrives, so it's phone call time.

Finally, having paid for the test and repair service, they tell me it's defective (I ALREADY KNEW THAT, THAT'S WHY I SENT IT TO YOU) and they can't repair it.

They kindly offered to sell me one of their improved boxes for an obscene amount of money, though.

I received the email telling me that they couldn't fix it the day they shut down for a two week holiday. What am I supposed to do now? They've got my money, got my CDI and, it would seem, they've got me by the bo££ocks.

From my experience this company does not do what the website claims.

EDIT:

Rating increased to two stars pending further review.

Update:

Communication received from Carmo regarding the unit being irreparable did not include why it was irreparable. Subsequent emails from Kevin explained it, and included the offer of a replacement. The purchase price for the replacement unit has had the original amount I paid discounted from it. This pricing structure was not made clear within the original emails received. I have accepted the offer of a replacement unit under those circumstances.

That is a much more satisfactory resolution.

I will further amend this review when the replacement product is received and I can see if it works.

Hi Chris.

Sorry you feel this way, I have contacted you on Monday trying to come to a solution that works for the both of us but haven't heard from you.

You can get the unit back, that's no problem at all, we will refund you the repair amount, this is always a possibility. We are a very flexible company, even when repairing is not possible we still try to help our clients, you seeing this as a scam is something I cannot fix unfortunately.

To be honest I think this all is just a big miscommunication, I hope with the mail I send you on Monday and this reaction we can fix this.

All the best,

Greetings Kevin

UPDATE:

Hi Chris, thank you for your reacting.
We will talk to my team and let them start creating your replacer.

If anything is unclear you can use our ticketsystem ( I know it isn't the best we are working on a solution). We will look forward to your payment and we will send a tracking number as soon as the unit is ready for shipment.

Hi Per,

We are sorry you feel this way. We offer 3 years warranty on our rewind stators that are original stators. Yours was not an original stator and with those types of stators the cores are really bad.

We do not offer a Warranty on those types of stators because the quality of the cores do not match original, we clearly communicated thit to you and you agreed with the warranty terms. That you stator goes bad again doesn't surprise us, that's why we asked you what to do before rewinding.

We ask €215,- for a handmade fully rewind stator, this almost costs us money to do, we do not save on anything. We buy the best quality coating (that we do ourselves) the best wiring and the best copper, Joris then rewind these by hand that takes many hours. Calling us greedy is really unfair but again if that is what you feel I really do not think there is something we can do for you.

We wish you all the best, hopefully you have more luck with your new stator.

Kind regards,

Kevin van Hout

Good experience, especially regarding trust client-supplier

We had a problem with the suitability of the product I ordered (a voltage regulator for my classic motorcycle). Carmo´s staff were extremely helpful and provided me with guidance and real assistance in the process to find the most suitable one and return the other (which resulted not suitable for my bike).

They were helping me very actively not only by email but also instantly by their WhatsApp line.

The quality of the products is very good for the price. Designed in the NL (EU engineering) and manufactured in Taiwan. I really like this approach because I had bad experiences in the past with Chinese suppliers while Taiwanese are very trustworthy and take care when the products do not reach the advertised specs. My experience with Chinese part suppliers was terrible in the past. They normally do not even respond to complaints and they claim to not to be subjected to EU consumers regulation (this is false if they deliver to the EU they must comply with our rules).

My experience tells me that if you want a trustworthy piece of electronic but you do not need the official distributor´s one (my bike is quite old so this did not make sense in my case) Carmo is a very suitable mid-price but good quality solution when compared to Chinese cheap parts that will break down in a month, and probably break your bike if not your bones...
