I won an auction on a Friday afternoon pst and spoke briefly to the seller located in a different state both Friday and Saturday and was busy Sunday. By Monday my account had been locked and I had no ability to communicate with the seller or read messages sent to me by cars and bids. I complained and demanded my buyer fee refunded as per their site it lists buyers have a week to compete the transaction.
Cars & Bids is well-run. Great photos, and I love "Doug's Take" on each car. Public commenting is very good, and great that you have the option to contact the seller privately. The post-auction follow up is great, frequently checking in to make sure the transaction is going smoothly - you don't feel abandoned once the fee is collected. The only change I would make is to have the fee split 50/50 by the seller and buyer.
As a first-time seller on Cars&Bids I became increasingly displeased with the level of control C&B demands and the lack of support from C&B once the auction went live. As the seller, I was not allowed to set the reserve I wanted or write the description for the vehicle. It was only after I let the C&B reserve offer expire 7 days later that C&B finally responded to my messages and allowed me to set a reserve closer to what I wanted. Once the auction went live and a bidder started making false public statements, I asked C&B to handle the situation, and they refused because I had a reserve. I made it clear that I would not continue with the auction if C&B was going to allow bidders to make false statements to suppress the bidding to try to win the auction for less money. The bidder in question had bid on more than 50 auctions but only purchased 3 vehicles. To me this was an obvious car flipper. Ultimately, a C&B representative commented publicly on my auction that he did not believe the C&B auction was going to meet the reserve anyway. I ended up selling the vehicle to Carvana for more than the reserve I set on C&B, so the take home message here is to sell to Carvana and save yourself the trouble of dealing with this unprofessional organization.
Most people, some with experience in selling cars told me to junk my car. It's not worth anything. Get a tax rebate. I didn't listen. Carsandbids.com connected me with another person that sees the same value as I.
Great experience selling my first car on an online auction platform. They made it easy to set up the sale and I used their photo/video add on to have a professional look to the offering. That was easy to set up too and well worth it IMO. Most of all, with all the internet scams going on, their system gave me a lot of confidence and peace of mind. The sale went off without a hitch and the post auction support for payment, transfer of title and delivery of the car were flawless. I also like the fact that I wasn’t charged a seller’s fee like other auctions.
Auction manager was helpful and responsive; quick to request additional required materials and add/change things upon request. Post-auction support was strong and thorough as well.
Trash experience. I sold my car on here in 2023 and they did the absolute least with the sale. Zero marketing, my agent was unresponsive and unhelpful even while the bidding was ongoing. I got my reserve price and I was dissatisfied with the whole process. Never again
Great platform for buying and selling cool cars!
Cars & Bids was a great experience. The whole transaction went smoothly. Highly recommend and would use again.
I'd do this again but the buyer has to pay 5% of the sale price which is a bit aggressive for simply putting together the website for auctions. The seller largely has to do most of the lifting with taking/paying for high quality photos/videos and more or less writing the description. The fee could potentially negatively impact the seller as well because people may not bid further knowing they have this fee to factor in. I could see having a minimum fee or a progressively lower fee as the price goes.
I had a great experience selling my car! Safepay was smooth and I got my money faster than I expected.
I love Cars & Bids. I browse vehicles and vehicle sites all the time. I only wish they had an app.
Easiest car buying experience I've ever had. SafePay made payment and paperwork super easy. Cars and Bids shipping was fantastic, a few button clicks from me and they arranged everything.
Cars&Bids made the process of selling my car easy and it sold above my expected price. The support was very thorough and satisfying.
If I could give this company zero stars, I would. I had never bid before and I didn’t even know what I was doing, so yes I should’ve done my due diligence. Financing ended up falling through due to some unforeseen circumstances and so I had to back out of the deal. The seller was very understanding about the whole thing and they went with the second highest bidder that was only $400 less than me. Cars and bids refused to refund me my buyers fee. I was emailing back-and-forth with Support and they were very quick to ban me from this site forever, but they will not do anything about the buyers fee. There are plenty of articles on Reddit in different sites of them actually ending up refunding people’s buyers fees, so there is a precedent that set with that and the fact that there’s proof that they can in fact, refund buyers fee fees, they just pick and choose when they want to do it and who they want to do it for.
As my first time ever selling on an auction site, I knew CarsandBids was the perfect choice. I bought a car from the site several years prior so I felt comfortable with the process. The website and my auction specialist more than met my expectation. As a car guy with a limited budget, I will buy and sell with them in the future I am sure.
Smooth and quick transaction with a clear process along the way!
I really wanted to like Cars & Bids as a seller, but I’ve tried twice and failed to sell. They push you as a seller to have a really low reserve, if at all. In both cases, I ended up selling my car on Autotrader within a couple of days for higher than the price where my auctions ended without selling. Maybe the experience is better as a buyer, but you do have to pay a 5% buyer’s fee.
Buying experience was excellent, and they offer useful services to help with a secure transaction for busy people.
