I'd be positive if I could be, but I feel like a cash cow and not a customer. The previous agents engaged me in rent reviews, I felt like a valued tenant to them and the owner. For reasons I don't know, they were ousted by Carter Jonas last year 'and then the problems started'. 18% rise last year! These agents just assert rises. They set other houses at a high rent, then point AT THEIR OWN HOUSES to argue the prices have gone up. I sent a reply to their rent proposal this year, they claimed my proposal did 'not comply with tenancy law'. They admit market rate for my house last year has come down (the ONS data says so, too), yet they want more rent from me. 'Go figure' ! They like to assert things and don't seem to like you challenging them. Maybe they think the tenants work for them? They aggressively push rental prices for sitting tenants that my neighbours felt they had to leave, and the owner lost thousands when Carter Jonas could not find any renters at the price they were asking, so had to drop the rate again! What a waste. If they'd just had sensible rises, the owner would have ended up with more money and happy tenants!

We had a very poor experience with Carter Jonas regarding the return of our deposit. It took over three months to be refunded despite repeated email assurances that “instructions had been given to the holding account” to process payment.
Despite numerous follow-ups, there was no meaningful progress or clear communication. We were repeatedly told the same thing, yet nothing was actually actioned, and the delay became completely unacceptable.
In the end, we bypassed the agent and contacted the landlord directly. The landlord, who had always been helpful and responsive throughout the tenancy, arranged for the deposit to be returned within 24 hours.
This raises serious concerns about the efficiency and accountability of the agent’s deposit handling process. What should have been a straightforward return was unnecessarily delayed for months, only being resolved once we intervened directly.
Overall, this level of service is unacceptable and we would not recommend using this estate agent based on our experience.

Unfortunately I live in an owned property next to a rental property managed by this agent. In 17 years of owning my property every single tenant has caused me problems, the present ones are the worst yet. In the 15 months they have lived there they have received a letter from Environmental Health requesting they be considerate to neighbours (loud bass music in house and garden) had 2 visits by police and were finally served A Community Protection Warning (which they have breached)
They have been reported for Anti Social Behaviour, Criminal Damage & Harassment, I've suffered reletless bullying and interference with and damage to my property. They tap on walls, thump the walls, run in the house and stomp about. I have even had an electrical item held against the walls as part of the 'punishment' for putting clothes away at 4.40pm
Assistance received from this agent in addressing concerns has been and continues to be completely apathetic they just do not care how much I have suffered and continue to suffer. The behaviour of these tenants has had a detrimental effect on both my physical and mental health
Regarding the damage caused to and interference with my property which includes a spirit based liquid thrown at my cctv camera, an attempt to move my camera and water sprayed at my camera via a hose and a plank of wood screwed to trellis within my garden
I have sent numerous emails to thier 'landlord' Thomas Ireland requesting the plank of wood screwed to a trellis panel within my garden to be removed. All requests have been completely ignored and I note today, the plank remains screwed to my trellis. Trellis which is the last thing my late father and I constructed together, this male has no regard whatsoever for other people's property
On Sunday 3rd May 2026 a Statement was provided to police regarding the Anti Social Behaviour, Harassment, Criminal Damage by the male residing in the rented property, I am more than willing to attend court if necessary. I didn't expect to work hard paying 2 mortgages to be made to feel scared to move, make normal living noise within my own home without being made to suffer for it
It is my firm belief I am bullied by these tenants for being physically disabled. A comment was made to police 'we hear her moving about' I have difficulty walking and rely on a walking stick
Don't be fooled by the message below, this agency refuses to accept that these tenants have breached thier tenancy all they do is tell me to cease contacting them to advise of the daily torment

Absolutely excellent experience with Carter Jonas Winchester. Really enjoyed having Alison, Sophie and Tara looking after my sale, which they conducted with calm professionalism, even when I was stressed out! All their support much appreciated.

I lived in a property managed by this agency for 2.5 years. The house itself was quite old, with aged facilities that had clearly seen many years of use before I moved in. However, the biggest issue arose during the checkout process.
Despite the property being far from new, I felt that the agent expected a "New renovation" standard upon move-out. They were incredibly pedantic, nitpicking over minor marks on surfaces that were already tired and old.
They pushed their own recommended cleaning company, which quoted much higher than the market rate. I chose to clean it thoroughly myself, but they were never satisfied, holding me to a clinical standard of perfection that the house didn't even meet when I first moved in.
Throughout the dispute, the agent was completely uncompromising and refused to listen to reason. I eventually had to take the matter to formal adjudication. Thankfully, the independent adjudicator ( TDS ) agreed that the agent's claims were excessive. I was only required to pay 60% of their original claim.
Gently remind for future tenants: If you rent an older property with this agency, be prepared for a fight at the end. Take photos of every single aged fitting and worn corner when you move in. If they are unreasonable, go straight to adjudication—don't let them keep your hard-earned money!

Monika and the team at the Carter Jonas Newbury office were brilliant in helping us rent our property. Thanks to their efficiency, we were able to move in just two weeks after our first viewing, and the process was smooth from start to finish.
We did experience a few issues when we first got the keys, including no heating or hot water for the first week, likely because the property had been empty for some time. However, Megan was prompt in getting this resolved.
Overall, we had a very good experience. The viewing, agreement signing, key handover and communication were all handled professionally and without hassle. A smooth and well-managed process.

We have being with Carter Jonas for about 3 yrs now and find them exceptionally helpful from starting the rental process to moving onto a second property .
When we have had problems they have being dealt with very professional , the staff two in particular on the helpline Mo and the other male member can not remember his name have always being so helpful especially when I had a leak water spurting out and he got someone with in 45 mins to come and sort out the problem very calm and helpful .
The other members of staff who are exceptional are Will Miller our property manager and James Reynolds who is very friendly calming and helpful when I get over excited about a property move .
James always gets back to us when we’re not sure about anything that needs attention .
Will Miller well he’s above and beyond any manager after having no water for two weeks offered B&B accommodation to which was not suitable to our needs at the time made arrangements to get bottled water delivered each day to help with the problem calling us every day to try and get the problem sorted ,
Even called the day he went on holiday with updates and feedback from our water problem .
So yes we are very happy with our management company even though we have had problems we have had them sorted , with some exceptional staff members that should be commentated for being so professional .

I had a great experience throughout the entire process, from the initial search right through to moving into the apartment. All the executives were highly professional while also being extremely helpful. The agreement signing and handover of keys were completely hassle-free. They also supported me with raising name‑change requests with the local council and energy providers. The team was always available at the agreed times and responded promptly to all my queries. Overall, the experience was smooth and very well managed.

I have a property and am due to renew the contract with the tenant in June. The tenant has requested that they pay 12 months in advance as they are unable to provide work references in the UK. We also have a 12 month fixed term contract due for renewal in June. I asked if this was still possible, given the new renters legislation and was assured by the branch that it was. That was a month ago. Yesterday I pushed back and requested that they double check with their legal team and, of course it will not be legal to receive 12 months rent in advance from May 1st. If I hadn’t checked, it would have been June before I was made aware. This comes after the managing agent also instructed the tenant to open my mail when I suspected that something may have been missed by the mail forwarding service. She instructed the tenant to open my PERSONAL mail, rather than apologise to the tenants for any inconvenience and then forward it onto me as I had requested her to do. She then denied that she had done this, despite having copied me into the email chain where she did it and then offered no apology for breaking the law. All in all disgraceful, with a lax attitude to landlords and a rather fluid relationship with the law.

From start to finish Carter Jonas were helpful, proactive and friendly in helping us sell our late fathers property. Whlist the property is in a lovely setting it requires a lot of work to bring it up to todays standards. It was also once part of a large country estate and there were various issues with regard to shared facilities and access rights. CJ halped guide us through the process and came up with proactive suggestions on addressing those sticking points. If their lead agent was away for any reason someone immediately stepped in and ensure progress was not interupted.

Marina Kimpton from Carter Jonas recently helped us search for a property to let in Central London. While we didn't conclude a contract with Marina, she was always resourceful, reactive, friendly and available during our search. We highly recommend working with her!

Interacted with Cater Jonas, and Leo Goodman-Jones in particular, who acted in behalf of the seller. Had a great experience with Leo being very accommodating and helpful in making the transaction very smooth.

Incredibly frustrated with this company. They are discriminatory and homophobic. We found our perfect rental property and proceeded to view and submit our application. After days of chasing. Kam finally called me back. She said the asset manager rejected our application as he felt the property was too small for our family.
Now I’m not sure where this guy lives. But how on earth is a 4 double bedroom detached house with 4 extremely large reception rooms and 3 bathrooms be too small for a family of 4!!! Absolutely ridiculous! Been chasing for days via phone and email but no response!
Just now James Reynolds called me. He said it was a poor choice of wording that Kam used. He proceeded to explain. Apparently the Landlord feels we are not a ‘traditional’ family and in James’s word a man, woman and child! And that he thought we were likely to cause more wear and tear than a ‘traditional family’ he said the landlord had very specific ideas of the type of family he wanted in there and we weren’t traditional enough!
Absolutely and wholly discriminatory and homophobic! As we are a female gay couple with a son! Obviously we are not classed as a traditional family!!! Diabolical! And as for wear and tear! We are actually less likely to cause damage than a family with young children.
Update: James called again. This time he says he’s gone back to the landlord with a ‘whole’ picture of our family and they will take it under consideration for review!
3 days later. James calls. The landlord has reconsidered our application and has still declined us. No reason given this time.
Utterly disappointed and frustrated with this company. Would give 0 stars if I could. Their customer service and treatment of clients is diabolical! The only shining star in this whole debacle is Jess! Who’s been great and seems to be the only one who ever answers the phone.
We will absolutely be taking this further and seeking legal advice for being absolutely discriminatory and homophobic! You will be receiving my formal complaint!

As a buyer, I had a really positive experience working with Fred at Carter Jonas throughout the entire process and will not hesitate to go back to him/them should I sell in the future.
From the outset, it was clear that he took his responsibilities seriously, particularly in representing the seller’s interests during the offer stage and initial acceptance. He was diligent in ensuring all the necessary checks were completed, including proof of funds and identification, which gave me confidence in the professionalism of the process.
What stood out even more was his involvement after the offer was accepted. He became a key point of coordination between both parties, maintaining regular communication with the solicitors and ensuring progress was consistently being made. Whenever there were delays or next steps required, he was proactive in chasing and keeping things moving forward.
He was always available to answer questions, approachable, and highly professional, while still being personable and easy to deal with.
Overall, I would highly recommend his/their services to anyone looking for a reliable and committed estate agent.

I recently sold my home through Carter Jonas Marlborough and had a great experience from start to finish. I mainly dealt with Fred who I cannot recommend enough but also Nick and Helen who were also fantastic. They all provided clear, honest advice, marketed the property brilliantly, and kept me updated throughout the whole process.
At the completion stage, they were absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, keeping all parties aligned and resolving last-minute issues quickly and efficiently. Their proactive approach and dedication at this crucial stage made a real difference and took a huge amount of stress off my shoulders.
Thanks Fred and team. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to sell their home.

Rental property managed by this company on behalf of Hs2 on moving out half my deposit kept for issues not really fair, they wanted £20 for grass seed! As the lawn had died just one petty example, trying to get repairs done is difficult, they send individuals round who haven’t a clue, bodge job fix with promises to come back then never do, then charges on the tenant for issues that wouldn’t have arisen had the repairs been completed fully. The excuse - it wasn’t reported. Well have they tried their website?? Jobs reported but not actioned for weeks, when the emails are finally read, it’s all about the money and not the customers (renters). Would strictly not rent a property managed by this company ever again. They are not there for the tenants but solely to make money and for their landlords. Rented all my life moved a few times and always got all my deposit back in full. Until now.

I've just had a terrible experience with a Surveyor from Carter Jonas. I asked for a survey for a building purchase. The surveyor said he would do a "Schedule of Condition" This came with no explanation that this was different to a building survey ( I am a layman and not a buildings expert!). When I questioned that the report didn't look like a building survey he accepted that this instruction had come from an internal email and not me. He then returned to do the actual survey and said "it will cost a bit more" and then charged me in full for both! When I questioned it, he then informed me that it was my fault because I wasn't there when he did the initial inspection. No acceptance that he or Carter Jonas was in the wrong despite acknowledging that the error had come from an internal email. I'm now out of pocket to the tune of £1500. Terrible service.
31/03/26 Edit: Carter Jonas have replied to this review asking for feedback. I have sent an email to the address given with a screenshot of the email saying that it was an internal error. The email has bounced back! So much for caring about feedback. What an absolute joke! AVOID this company!!!
