Kendra Breakfast Blend light roast pre ground coffee
This is a review on the Caruso's coffee Kendra brand Breakfast Blend pre ground coffee. This coffee came packaged in a resealable Mylar foil bag with a standard degasing valve. The package had all of the important information about the coffee inside, like country and region of origin, roast date, bean and roast type and basic brewing instructions. This coffee was a light roast, and a blend of Honduran, Peruvian and Brazilian coffee beans. Upon opening the bag the fragrance of the pre ground coffee was quite pleasant slightly sweet, nutty coffee. This 12oz. bag of coffee was purchased at a local discount store for $4.99 and was just about one month off it's roast day and had an expiration date of one year in the future. I used 40 grams of this pre ground coffee and again noticed this coffee had a very pleasant fragrance. This 40 gram dose was brewed with 1 liter of cold filtered water in a Cuisinart CPO850 automatic pour over coffee maker. This coffee again was pre ground to a perfect drip grind and I experienced no stalling in the filter basket as I have with some other pre ground coffees.
The aroma from this coffee was very pleasant but typical for a Central/South American coffee blends with notes of cocoa and roasted nuts. Upon cupping I found this coffee to have the same aroma, tasting this brewed coffee I found bright acidity, and a somewhat thin mouth feel not exactly tea like but close. I got flavor notes of milk chocolate and a slight walnut taste and slight astringency. This coffee was smooth on the palate with a medium lingering semi sweet nutty aftertaste and no bitterness. The SCA rates coffees with a cupping score of 80 or higher as high quality specialty grade coffees. Using their scoring system I rate this coffee at 82. It should be noted that i am not a professional coffee expert and that this score represents my opinion only. This coffee blend brewed a very pleasant cup of coffee and I would recommend this coffee for anyone looking to explore the specialty coffee market, it is also an excellent choice for anyone looking for a solid everyday cup. I highly recommend.
