Cath comes highly recommended.

Cath was essential in guiding me through what was a very difficult process. She is a great communicator and promptly answers to any emails or calls. She was also the only solicitor that bothered answering my initial query in great detail and took the time for a call to discuss the possibilities forward, whilst others left me in a very difficult situation. I can highly recommend her.

Life saver!

I am Scottish by domicile and was married in Scotland to my Scottish husband however we moved to the Netherlands in 2018 and by 2019 we decided to separate.

It was only until the beginning of this year I decided to move in with my new partner and was told I couldn’t buy a house unless I was divorced so panic kicked in! I originally went to a solicitor from my home county who advised I couldn’t get divorced via Scottish courts and had to get divorced in the Netherlands but it took this particular solicitor weeks to make her mind up if I could or couldn’t and even then she wasn’t 100% sure. Time was not on my side as I had committed to the house in the Netherlands.

My partner found Cathy’s firm online and I emailed her straight away, Cath contacted me the same day to advise it was possible and gave me a sense of ease and hope.

We had a meeting set up within a couple of days and she talked through the process extensively with multiple options. I chose to go down the court of session route.

Cath communicated with me almost on a daily basis and was responsive to all my emails. Her office staff were also helpful when I went through the signing up process and also wig up for the zoom calls for the inter views

For what she did I feel her costs were reasonable considering she had my divorce done and dusted within 8 weeks!

Thanks to Cath and her patience, professionalism and straight forward talking I can now start the next chapter of my life!

I would recommend Cath Karlin family law to anyone.

Reported to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission

I hired Cath as my lawyer for a year from Feb 2022 - Feb 2023 and in that time she wracked up a £60k debt and delivered nothing for me. She frequently sent emails which she charged me for when i expressly told her not to and found any excuse to wrack up bills without being able to justify where costs were coming from. When I told her I couldn't afford the thousands of pounds worth of bills she was sending me each month she agreed to month repayments so that she could continue to build up debt for me. I felt out of control of her fees and told her I couldn't afford to feed myself and my daughter because of the costs she was hitting me with. So she suggested I get out further loans to pay her and get myself further into debt.

I dropped her representation and represented myself in court due to her not delivering results and the financial abuse. She immediately started stalking the outcomes of my court hearings, sending me threatening emails and then served me with a court motion to pay her in full and secure her debt against my home, despite continuing to receive high monthly repayments which we had agreed upon. She also sent me numerous "final" settlement bills which kept increasing each time despite me no longer using her services. Honestly, I took out a high interest loan in the end just to get rid of her because I couldn't stand her anymore and found her so triggering and insensitive.

She knew I was a domestic abuse victim and tried to serve me with this court hearing the day before the criminal trial against my ex partner knowing i wouldn't be in the headspace to adequately defend myself and didn't have the money to hire anyone else thanks to her. She also used language like saying she wanted control over me and my further court proceedings that no longer involved her. So please please please if you've experienced domestic abuse don't hire her as you will find yourself being taken advantage of and feeling very triggered.

Finally, the real kicker. I fired Cath as she told me I was trapped in Scotland and had no hope in hell of a court letting me move home to England. I told her this made me feel hopeless and depressed and this was really important to me as I needed my family support after fleeing my home from DA and toddler. I literally broke down crying on a call to her and she told me she'd told other clients the same. But guess what? In representing myself I got a relocation order and negotiated a fair settlement and bought the end to all the family court proceedings Cath had been advising me to go forward with and I did that within a few months of dropping her. When I bought it up to the judge thats what I wanted he said "I don't see why not?" in relation to me moving. I was gobsmacked as Cath had made me believe It was impossible. I told her this was my main goal from the divorce and I didn't care about getting money out of my divorce but she said that was "an own goal" and I needed to go for the money because she wanted paying. Disgusting!

If you need court representation please just hire someone directly from the faculty of advocates website as Cath doesn't represent you in court, you'll hire someone through her through that website anyway. Cath just costs thousands to send emails and raise court motions for you and write documents you can easily do yourself for little to no money using online resources. Also please don't let lawyers charge you to sign off on affidavits for hundreds of pounds because you can just write documents yourself and sign them or produce emails and text messages for free.

Cath - as my lawyer, you're supposed to go for my goals, not yours. Thanks for taking advantage of me at my most vulnerable and making me feel totally hopeless. I'm reporting you to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission and your details have been shared with Women's Aid to prevent other DA victims working with you.
