Cawley Hotels Corporate Scam

River House is owned by Cawley Hotels who, after our experience, are complete scam artists. When you book you agree to pay £10 per head if you don’t turn up. However, we did turn up, paid £57 for two meals, added a £10 tip and then, that evening, were charged £20 for not turning up.

I happened to notice the charge and called River House who promptly acknowledged that “someone’s made a mistake but I can’t do anything here - I’ll have to contact Cawley”. We’re still waiting on the refund.

This, of course, begs the question - How many others do they do this to who don’t notice the charge??

Duck Bay Hotel

Duck Bay Hotel, Restaurant & Luxury Cottages

Is this true ?

A couple are currently residing at Robin House Children’s Hospice as my nephew is receiving end of life care there. He is a little over 3 months old and every minute of every day is a blessing with him just now. He has a tracheostomy which he breathes through and every so often he needs a nebuliser which is essentially vaporised water that’s like steam that helps clear his airways to help him breathe.

They went to this absolute embarrassment of a place, as they’re trying to do nice things and make every day Charlie has left special. They spent £40 on overpriced coffee and cakes and stayed there for a while. It got to the time Charlie needed his nebuliser so as the restaurant was so busy, they asked at the reception of the hotel if they could use one of the plug sockets so he could get this. While they’re holding him in their arms they were told “no we don’t do this here”. Even after explaining the situation they weren’t interested one bit.

They had to leave and get back to the hospice immediately so they could give him this, when going back they’ve spoken to the nurse there as were obviously upset. The nurse has called them and they’ve told them they’re not speaking to a manager and they’re not interested essentially. The charge nurse has then phoned them and said they’d hold to speak to a manager to then be told “other people will be waiting to call us and we can’t help”

How in this day and age can ANY place turn someone away for something like this. Especially after being there and spending money. Literally holding a baby in their arms who needs this.

Not really going to make a massive difference but hopefully this gets shared far and wide and nobody bothers to go and spend their money there. In the nicest way possible I hope the place rots and none of the staff are ever in a situation like this with their extremely ill child.

Covered in Red wine - no reply or compensation!

At the very beginning of my evening a waitress spilt a whole large glass of red wine over me, my jacket, my top, my trousers and my shoes, with splashes on my wife's jacket! Accidents happen. This was over ten days ago and a week since I emailed their generic customer service account! The staff are not allowed to give you anything complimentary by way of an apology so I was charged in full for the meal. I don't like handing out 1 star reviews, but I have cleaning costs, a ruined pair of shoes and nothing but silence from the management and owners.

We visited recently and were gobsmacked…

We visited recently and were gobsmacked at the 50 pounds charge for any damages which I think is ridiculous and insulting even if it is refunded, what if you don't have that in your account or it leaves you short ( we're not all well off). Makes you feel as if your a potential vandal. Food was basic, breakfast was average and black pudding hard and tasteless and potato scone too . Plus side ,staff very kind and friendly. Don't think we will be back!!

Cawley Hotels now own Riverhouse in…

Cawley Hotels now own Riverhouse in Stirling!!
After a previous negative review...........
Amazing! I have no idea why you have asked for feedback again, as the last time I responded with a quite negative response, you didn't even bother getting back to me!
Anyway, I gave you guys another chance and took my mother for brunch yesterday, just as bad as the previous visit. WORSE; you charge £1.95 for an extra poached egg, and then send them out hard! THAT is pure incompetence!
Bacon overdone, tatty scone so overdone it could have been used as a Ninja star! "Bloomer" bread was just a normal cut loaf!
Ever since Riverhouse was taken over by the Cawley Hotel chain the standards have declined, so much so now, you will never be used by my family and friends again.
I'm now even more concerned as I see from your adverts you now own my favourite restaurant at Duck Bay in Loch Lomond - I'm confident you have messed that up as well!!
Maybe if Corporate Business thought less on profit and more on quality, you might actually end up making MORE profit!
This review is also going on Trustpilot as all tourists need to see this!

Beware!!!!!! Your £10 deposit per person will be debited despite it supposedly being only chargeable for No Show or Cancellations

I have repeatedly tried to speak with someone at Head Office but as of today's date 9/5/24 they do not seem to exist. They appear to be hiding behind their receptionists at The Duck Bay Marina, which is the number given for Head Office, however when you call no one from Head Office is there and emails are ignored. I was advised that they were investigating the £20 charge which should not have been removed from my card but was taken. We dined at Langbank at table 37 on 3/5/24 at 7.15pm. I have sent all pics of bank accounts etc but still nothing. We are basically being called liars and will probably never be refunded the £20 which should never have been debited from my card. I have sent pics of both bank accounts the one for the holding fee of £20 if you cancel or do not show up and also the card I used to pay the £75 bill, inuding tip. The actual bill was £66. My bank are also looking in to this on my behalf as seemingly it happens a lot.

We won't be back

We went to Coast restaurant in Langbank Port but I believe the same deposit system is in place at all restaurants.
Pros
The food drink and location are all great for this place.
The staff are lovely and helped us celebrate a birthday by lighting candles on a cake that we brought in and bring it over.
There's a great wheelchair lift making it really accessible.
The view is gorgeous.

Cons
Despite stating so on the booking system, I was in a rush when booking, so I missed the £10 pp non refundable deposit part. If I'd read it properly, we wouldn't have gone.

Two people out of our party of nine didn't come as they tested positive for/ were exposed to COVID so there was no leeway and we lost £20 before we started. Even if the bill for our party of 9 was £400, they would still keep that £20.

The £10 per person is also a minimum spend, so if you only want a slice of cake or a bowl of chips, tough, it'll cost you a tenner!

We asked for very hard Melba toast to be substituted for normal toast but the same hard Melba toast came again.

We ordered a side of chips which didn't arrive but were charged for them.

The other stuff isn't such a big deal but due to the non refundable deposit, and minimum spend, we certainly won't be back.
