SCAMMERS
Just noticed a transaction on my bank account for $119.99 from Centr. Turns out I signed up for a free trial on 1 Jan 2022, 2 years ago and received an email when the free trial started stating that if I didn't cancel my subscription would be renewed. I didn't cancel and they charged me an annual subscription fee if $119.99 but didn't send a receipt or ever send me an email again. Zero correspondence. I never logged into the app again and today, I find a charge by Centr for $119.99. Look up my account and log in and find out that they will just keen renewing the subscription for éternity under the radar with zero correspondence, receipt or acknowledgement... Now, it's on me for not cancelling the free trial. But... It's actually illegal to charge someone without providing a receipt and it's very clear that the intention of this website is for people to do exactly what I did. Sign up for a free trial, forget and continue paying a subscription service under the radar until you finally pick up on it. I've emailed and requested a refund and will be reporting them to the appropriate government authorities for misleading practices. Don't give them your hard earned money. I don't know if the service is good or not, but the customer service is down the toilet and they're basically running a scam.
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!!!
Do not subscribe to this service or use the free trials. There is no reminder email or window of opportunity to cancel. They plan on people forgetting to cancel or make it very difficult to do so according to the very lopsided 'terms n conditions'. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!!!
App is great in terms of workouts and…
App is great in terms of workouts and recipes. You add your recipes and portion sizes and makes a shopping list for you.
Unfortunately the app goes down a lot and says “Sorry we dropped the dumbell”. Not great when you spending a premium price on an annual subscription.
Arriving at the gym ready to go (which is the hardest step in training) only to find your app isnt loading and you cant continue your workouts, it just kills any point in having the app in the first place.
Because of this i cannot recommend using the app.
I had this app several weeks ago but i am still in the group and these issues are still occurring frequently according to users and even now at the time of writing somebody complaining they cant access it.
So i would definitely say you should AVOID this and look elsewhere for your fitness needs.
Automatically signed me up for the most expensive payment plan without my consent.
Went to sign up for the 7 day trial period but never completed the process nor chose a payment plan, instead just closing down the app to complete the process at a later day. Come to find out, not only did the trial period commence even though I did not complete the sign-up, but the app subsequently billed me for the most expensive payment option possible (the 12 month payment plan)!
All communications with "customer support" to remedy this has been stonewalled or met with continuous repeating that their terms and condition states no refunds for mistakes made.
Well I never made any mistake, as I never selected or agreed to a 12 month payment plan!
No answer either as to where in their terms and Agreements it is stated that the most expensive payment plan will automatically be selected for you if you do not select one yourself or complete the sign up process.
This feels like such a scam.
Works for me
I started using the Centr app in April 2020, and I've found the programs to work well for me. They regularly update their programs, and I've seen noticeable improvements in my body. However, there is one issue that can be quite annoying - they charge me annually without sending any email notification.
Once, the app was also broken for a week. However, I reached out to customer support, and they were responsive and understanding. They even offered me a free month as compensation.
It would be greatly appreciated if Centr could send an email or notification when they renew the membership. I also hope that cancelling my membership in the future won't be a hassle. 😅"
I hope this review captures your honest thoughts about the Centr app!
I have no idea how you have my details
I have no idea how you have my details, I have never used your app, and yet I have been charged an annual fee. And because I have never used your app, I do not have a login with which to cancel. I have emailed you and expect a response to my email confirming you will cease.
Will Charge You Even If You Cancel, Won't Refund You
I wish I read the reviews first.
I signed up to a free trial.
I didn't find many exercises suited to me in my current shape. Fine, I'm a potato, these guys aren't.
I cancelled within the trial period. I put my money towards a gym instead.
I still got charged. I contacted support, saw my subscription was still active, cancelled it there and then & assumed maybe I didn't click the last popup, because it gives you multiple confirmations before it lets you cancel.
They refused to refund me because it's their policy if you've not cancelled in time to not refund you. I showed them the reviews where other people cancelled & got charged & I asked if I could escalate the issue. I was just quoted the policy again but with screenshots this time. And told that they've now cancelled my subscription so I would not get charged.
But the problem with that is, I cancelled it a second time when I first contacted them & made sure I definitely made it past all of the confirmations, so what was there for them to cancel? And I told them I had cancelled it. So this to me is very suspicious.
Either there's a problem with their system & this customer service cannot act outside of stock responses, or this is a scammy company who entraps people into subscription fees they tried to back out of in the allocated period.
Neither are good things. But I can give some benefit of the doubt for the first at the very least, technical issues happen and I know sometimes customer service is structured so they don't deviate from company policy, which is why I want to escalate the issue.
I may update this review if I manage to get it escalated and resolved. But based on other reviews, I'm not holding out much hope.
[edit]
I said I would update if I managed to get it escalated and resolved, so this is my update.
The initial escalation result was to stick to their guns, and didn't really address the content of my concerns, so I persisted & presented everything in 1 email & they issued the refund. Either it was a misunderstanding or they decided "for £20 it's not worth going in circles".
Their customer contact centre probably has a policy & rules for what they can and can't do, to ensure consistency across the support and to avoid support staff from deviating at whim, should they get a difficult customer or a customer who tries to trip them up.
This is not uncommon, I worked in a call centre and was subject to it, which is why I didn't want to argue with the person I was speaking to when it was clear they couldn't give me better answers, so I escalate it to somebody who may be less restricted.
I still don't see this as a very customer-friendly approach, or even a customer-friendly policy and it kind of feels like they want people to be trapped into paying a sub. However, they still helped in the end & support was still polite & professional and quick to respond, so I am not going to fault them as I expect they were doing the job they were told to.
Will take your money without supplying service
AVOID!!! Signed up for the trial 2 years ago and did not even get a login. The company's website does not recognise my email address and therefore one cannot even cancel the so called membership or free trial.
Therefore surprised they charged me and again no way of even seeing why/is there an active membership/cancelling. Within a week of realising the charge contacted the company - no apology, no help, no intention of refunding the money and just quote T&Cs from when the free trial was initiated. Don't acknowledge that no login information was provided, and they can see the service has never been used.
Wished I read the negative reviews here before even signing up - use an Amex platinum card offer, assuming the company will be reputable. It is not, and its almost not even worth my time chasing for my subscription fee, but this is what this company is relying on.
App is down.
App is down.
Currently in the gym unable to follow my workout i have subscribed to.
Paid for a yearly membership too.
Not acceptable really
It’s a dead app and site
It’s a dead app and site. Account details are not accessible. Seems to have turned into a scam.
Do not sign up to Centr
I wish I had read the Trust Pilot reviews before signing up to Centr.
I signed up for a 12 month contract, and am stuck with an app that doesnt work most of the time.
The app is very temperamental. In the 3 months I have had it there have been 4 occasions where I have been unable to log in with an error message saying 'we have dropped a dumbbell, please try again later'.
The most recent lack of connectivity lasted for 1 week with messages from the support team saying it would be back in 36 hours. Firstly 36 hours is unacceptable. Secondly it wasn't back in 36 hours and despite messages saying the technical team would contact me they didn't. I am still waiting for a response.
I will be contacting my bank to see if they can do anything about clawing back my funds.
With regards to the app, the weight training is not targeted at women at all and seems to be mostly focused on building back and biceps - a true disappointment and shocking that Chris Hemsworth put his name to it.
Customer service are very poor
Customer service are very poor and useless. I am happy to never deal with them again ! Not the best and expensive too
Unscrupulous company
Unscrupulous company, no reminder email sent out prior to autorenewal and all they will do is quote their T&C’s and take your money
Throughout the outage of their app the…
Throughout the outage of their app the communication was terrible! It was a reactive approach where they left Facebook posts unanswered and they stuck their heads in the sand. When the issue was rectified they didn’t let me know as they said they would nor did they go back on social media to do this. Centr didn’t inform me of what the issue was or try to assure me it won’t happen again.
When you compare an app like theirs to even a smaller one where one person is running a fitness app, their response is personal and prompt. I’m really disappointed with their terrible service and approach to communication.
I have no doubt that based on Centr’s treatment of customers so far this mail will fall on deaf ears but I hope that someone, somewhere in their org will read this and try and improve.
Unethical business practices
Unethical business practices
Not only Centr make their subscription cancellation instructions vague and confusing but they also have a complete no refunds policy for any reason in their T&Cs including accidental renewals.
What this means is that even if you contact customer service right after the auto annual renewal occurs on your credit card (and it would be clear from their Business Insights tool that you have not accessed this app for more than 12 months), they will still refuse to provide a refund and cease all contact with you.
What this indicates is that this is a deliberate act on their part, as part of their business model, to use these tactics as an additional revenue generation channel rather than providing a good product (including a honourable and respectful customer support team).
The customer support manager that I was dealing with was Jenn.
Please avoid using this app and supporting a company with an unethical business model - in particularly during a time of unfavourable macroeconomic conditions and people are suffering from unprecedented financial pressures.
Good content let down by deplorable customer service
The content is good, but the customer service is disastrous and the app is faulty.
Customer service either doesn't bother to reply, takes days and days to reply, and when they do they don't answer what you have asked them.
They sent me articles and recipes with meat recipes in, despite my settings clearly stating send me non-meat recipes only. When I brought this up to their technical support, they refused to even look at the article in question and find out why it was sent to me, insisting the good ol' useless "clear the cache" would work, and telling me *I* must go to the effort to find the article again instead of them doing their job, and then telling me I must screenshot it pretending that was what happened when it wasn't. Their technical support is completely useless.
The app has actually been totally broken and unusable for the last 2 days but Centr have made no helpful announcement of this anywhere - not on the website or the app. So users all around the world are trying again and again to make it work, uninstalling, reinstalling, going to great - and completely wasted - effort trying to make something work which Centr knows is broken from their end anyway.
As I said, content is good but totally let down by whoever they have subcontracted their customer service to and their software developers who have made an unstable and rickety app.
AVOID!!
AVOID!!! Signed up for the trial and cancelled within the trial period. The company claim I never cancelled and charged me for an annual subscription.
I’ve emailed back and forth with them but they’re refusing to budge. I’ve never ever had such horrible customer service before. It’s quite unbelievable.
Definite scam vibes here.
Disgusting refund policy
The app is fine. BUT BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PURCHASE AS THEY HAVE A SNEAKY STRICT REFUND POLICY! I was pumped on the app during the week trial so I decided to do the 1 year subscription. Then after 10 days I had a look through the rest of the courses and decided that actually the app doesn't quite fit with my long term goals. I asked to be downgraded to the monthly plan & only refunded the difference, which I don't think should be a hard ask. THEY REFUSED! Very disappointed in this company
I signed up for the trial and didn't…
I signed up for the trial and didn't like the lack of flexibility of adjusting my days of training, duration or other parameters. So, I decided to cancel the subscription, and I was late by only few days to cancel. They wouldn't refund a year worth of subscription even though I only used it once or twice. The worst app and customer service ever. Don't use it, there are better alternatives out there. All those people that have reviewed it are being paid a commission to do that .
Auto renewal continued despite me…
Auto renewal continued despite me having canceled it on the app. No renewal email sent to me or warning about recurring payments still switched on. Applied through credit card for dispute and Centr challenged it saying it was my issue. Poor customer service, clear app issues and greedy! The materials on the app are decent however... But just stop being greedy!
