I've had my Chappelli Vintage 3-speed …

I've had my Chappelli Vintage 3-speed for several years now, and can't recommend the business and its bikes highly enough. Pablo's team at Clevedon Street are always incredibly helpful and I've been back to them regularly for tune ups on my bike - and have been v tolerant with my inexperienced bike tuning skills. My brother recently bought one of their new CX's and has found it a dream ride for his commute.

Great rack experience

Great service, I needed to exchange a bike rack for my Chappelli, as I had purchased the wrong model. I took it to the workshop, expecting a drop off/pick-up later experience and a charge. The guys did the job immediately at no charge. I had not even purchased the bike new. Great experience and unexpected. Now, if only the handle grips were just a little bit larger for my big hands....

Super stylish womens bike

I purchased a pale gray womens three speed after seeing it in Vogue and am thrilled with it. Perfect for Melbourne commuting and super stylish. Service was prompt and it was easy to assemble. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful bicycles & an incredible team

Pablo and his team were friendly and extremely helpful, they're all so passionate about bicycles and their product that it's hard not to be excited by their enthusiasm. They were quick to fit me on the correct bicycle and send me off on a test ride down the street, and they even customised my bike to make it my absolute dream. Both the Chappelli Cycles products and service are incredible and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who will listen!

Great bicycle!

Great bicycle!! I have been commuting by bike everyday since I got it. Customer service could be a little better. I had to follow up about when my bike would be ready a few times, while they gave me a set date for it to be ready.

Had the spokes on my Chapelli rust out …

Had the spokes on my Chapelli rust out and start snapping just outside the warranty. Took it to my local bike shop where I was informed the spokes used were of poor quality and were not stainless steel. Contacted Chapelli who offered to send me replacements which they assured were now stainless steel and coated but it was going to cost me $145. For something that arose because Chapelli chose cheap materials during manufacturing I think this is poor form.

I've had the vintage 3 speed for a year …

I've had the vintage 3 speed for a year so thought it was about time I wrote a review!

I do a round trip of 26kms a day, five days a week and the bike has been good and having only three gears hasn't been a problem for me in, what can be, hilly Brisbane. The Sturmey Archer assembly has been great and low maintenance, with just minor adjustments needed on the tensioning now and then, but this is all to be expected. I give the bike a good clean regularly and re-grease everything that needs to be to stop any creaking. The colours and look of the bikes are excellent, but you have to be careful! I have the green coloured one and I just have to breathe on it and it scratches!

The bike hasn't been without it's problems: It wasn't assembled correctly by the rep in Brisbane to start with and had to get replacement parts shipped up. It had scratches on the paintwork from new in noticeable places which I was disappointed about as it's such a good looking bike. There's been further issues with the seat post and clamp and although the replacement parts do eventually get shipped (last time it was the wrong bits so I gave up) you have to chase and chase to get anything moving. Wish I had the same positive experience others had with regard to customer service :( The 3 stars reflect this experience more than anything else really.

I'm about to upgrade the seat post/clamp as this is where I'm having the most issues (could be an actual pain in the a$$!!!) and currently running odd coloured tyres (so that just won't do) so also upgrading those too.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the feedback and I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced those issues. Unfortunately being up in Brisbane its a little harder to give you the same excellent service we try to deliver in Sydney and Melbourne. That said we try to do our best for all our customers wherever they are. I read that you've had a couple of issues with the seat post. If you get in contact with Justin in our Melbourne shop he can send you out a new adjustable seat clamp and seat post on us, and will do you a deal on new tyres at a 30% discount as it sounds like you are in the market for those. Just let him know that you've heard from me and he'll sort it out for you. Best regards Tom

How to replace a back tyre?

Hi Vincent,

Thanks for feedback. With regards to the rear tyre - you should be able to remove the gear cable by unclipping the little sliver clip that holds the cable in place, then unscrewing the wheel bolts and sliding the wheel out. To put the tyre back you do the same in reverse. If you search YouTube for NuVinci wheel change there are a bunch of videos that will show you exactly how to do it. First time is a little fiddly but once you've done it once its easy. To avoid the need to change the tyres we recommend Schwable puncture proof tyres or the Maxis Range.
