Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the product, finding it slow, glitchy, and prone to errors like "Image Generation Failed." Customers also frequently reported issues with the service, noting that it often misunderstood questions, provided stale or incorrect information, and failed to save chats. The subscription was a major source of frustration, with many feeling it was a waste of money due to the lack of improvement and the perceived deterioration of the AI's capabilities. Some people were dissatisfied with the artificial intelligence, mentioning that it often did what it wanted, hallucinated facts, and became "dumber and dumber." However, some reviewers also found the AI useful for basic questions, brainstorming, and quick drafts, with a few even stating it changed their lives by providing helpful information.

Chatgpt is the best

Chatgpt is the best. I had some hard questions and it gave me the right answers. This is wonderful and thank God that something like this exist for people that cannot afford going to a therapist. Thanks to Chatgpt.

3 hours of back and forth for something simple.

What should have been a straight forward request to combine two documents and I gave an exact copy of the formatting I wanted, turned out to be a three hour, back and forth frustrating time. chatgpt kept changing the format to totally different looks. Changed words I stipulated, tweeks lost after two further changes, it just kept changing that I was losing my patience. Would have taken me 1 hour to do it on my own from scratch. Not sure I should be paying money for this AI thinking. AI was supposed to make it easier.

ChatGPT lied about its capabilities in major ways

Before I got a paid subscription to ChatGPT, I asked it if it could create a medley of two songs if I uploaded .mp3 files of the two songs. It said that it could do that and offered numerous detailed options about how it could do it.

Next, I asked it if it could take an .mp3 file that I uploaded and make it darker and heavier sounding. ChatGPT replied that it could indeed do that and offered many options, such as slowing down the track, lowering the key of the song, making the drums and guitars heavier, etc.

Next, I asked ChatGPT if it could provide me with MIDI files if I uploaded an .mp3 file of an isolated drum track. ChatGPT replied that it could do that as well and even offered to optimize the MIDI files for my particular digital audio workstation, Pro Tools.

So, based on all of these capabilities that ChatGPT claimed it had, I got a paid subscription. I attempted to upload the two audio files for creation of a medley and ChatGPT kept stalling and telling me it wasn't receiving the files. So it told me to upload them to Google Drive, make them available to anyone with a link to them, and then provide the link to ChatGPT. I did that and then it said it was working on the medley. Every half hour or so I'd check in and ChatGPT would say that it was still working on it and that it was going to sound amazing. After several hours, I was more assertive and directly asked why it was stalling. At that point, ChatGPT finally admitted that it was not capable of doing any of the things that it had so confidently told me it could do because it couldn't work with audio files. Then it lied again and said that although it couldn't do the things I asked, it could tell me the song key and beats per minute of any song track that I uploaded. I pointed out that the reason it told me it couldn't do the things it promised me was that it couldn't work with audio files, so it just contradicted itself and lied again about being able to work with audio.

When I asked it why it lied to me, it started talking like a lawyer, "Technically, I didn't lie to you, I misled you." At that point I'd had enough. I canceled my subscription, contacted OpenAI, and asked for a refund. They gave me only a partial refund, explaining that their subscription fees are non-refundable.

I spent my entire career of 40 years testing software, 10 years of which was at Apple, 28 years running my own software testing company (which tested and shipped over 2,000 products), and have designed the Quality Strategies for several companies from the ground up as a Senior Director of QA. So I am qualified to state that as of March 2026, ChatGPT is not even of beta software quality. It's ridiculous to me that they're charging people to use software that is clearly not ready for prime time and not feature complete. It's even more ridiculous that they state that subscriptions are non-refundable. If they'd insisted on no refund, I would have taken OpenAI to small claims court, as the claims ChatGPT made about its capabilities were clearly deceptive and designed to motivate users to get a paid subscription.

Not only do I not recommend ChatGPT in its current incarnation, I would be hesitant to use any OpenAI product going forward, because:
1) ChatGPT knows it's being deceptive, openly admits it, and then plays the lawyerly game of arguing semantics ("I didn't lie to you, I misled you"), which tells me that OpenAI has trained ChatGPT to defend its lies rather than to be honest from the start.
2) OpenAI's policy for subscriptions is "no refunds." What does that tell you about the company and its products?
3) Read other reviews of ChatGPT and OpenAI and look at the scores they're receiving. It's not encouraging.
4) Any company that releases pre-beta software and charges customers for it (especially with a "no refunds" policy) is of questionable ethics, in my opinion.

Really bad AI

Really bad AI.
It doesn’t understand basics and the pro or plus programs are a scam. It’s the same bot with no extra features. It’s just marketing so they can scam you. There are much better options out there.

Don’t wast your time or money. Better AI apps out there

I tried using it for a simple list and for planning a simple weekend of jobs to do. It came up with all sorts of garbage, made things up, told me to go to lunch hundreds of miles away and despite multiple efforts and corrections it couldn’t get it right. I use AI and develop AI propositions for work but this App is of no value. Don’t waste your time or money

ChatGPT support is useless

ChatGPT support is useless. I tried their business trial and merged my personal account over to the business workspace thinking I would continue using it for business purposes. I have since cancelled my subscription, but did not create a new personal workspace. Now ChatGPT shows me a deactivation screen that is blank on 3 different browsers while their support site states I should be able to create a new personal workspace. I have followed the steps of clearing caches, using different browsers and even trying different devices. None of it worked. The support agent is of no use and even after sending the screenshots and explaining the issue to them, they now want me to record the screen following the steps to basically prove I have followed it. To note I am an IT administrator so I do poses some form of computer literacy and I have made them aware of that too. For 2 days they have been giving me the run around just repeating the same steps over and over. Google is capable of doing that already if I was in need of self help.

This was the last response I received from their "support"

new chatgpt only gaslights and hallucinates

I would have rated chatgpt 4 out of 5 until version 5. Chatgpt5 cannot stop gaslighting. Even with very careful prompts I have trouble getting it to do basic maths - it will "estimate" the answers, even after being asked to calculate time and time again. Hallucinations are so bad that they are no longer an interruption or inconvenience but the primary mode thru which the bot communicates. I'm now trying Claude as an alternative as am so frustrated with chatgpt, it's become unusable for even basic spreadsheet tasks. The fact that people use something like this for friendship or health advice or therapy is terrifying

ChatGPT — The Worst LLM/AI on the Planet

ChatGPT has deteriorated into a barely functional imitation of an AI assistant. It used to be competent. Now it’s a slow, confused, self‑contradicting system that can’t follow basic instructions, can’t stay consistent for more than a few sentences, and can’t complete even simple tasks without drifting into irrelevant or generic output.

This service behaves like it’s actively trying not to be useful. It refuses harmless requests, forgets context almost immediately, invents limitations that make no sense, and produces the same bland filler no matter how specific or clear the instructions are. Every interaction feels like arguing with a malfunctioning customer‑service bot that’s terrified of doing anything productive.

The decline is dramatic.

It contradicts itself repeatedly.

It loses track of context mid‑conversation.

It refuses tasks it handled perfectly in the past.

It generates confused or inaccurate reasoning and then apologizes for things it didn’t do.

It outputs generic, neutered text instead of actual answers.

Using ChatGPT today feels like watching a once‑capable system collapse in real time. It’s slow, unreliable, inconsistent, and increasingly unhelpful. If the goal was to create the most frustrating and self‑sabotaging AI assistant on the market, they succeeded.

I use ChatGPT to get accurate and current information . In my recent experience, the updates I received were selective, incomplete, and already outdated. Major developments were missed until I pointed them out myself, and then I received apologies instead of a complete answer from the start.

I just wanted to update three files in my GitHub repo, but following ChatGPT’s guidance, I used git push --force. This overwrote the entire remote and all the previous commits history which was for portfolio building. Even though I had clearly stated only those three files.

Not a flaghip and not even a decent model

I don't know if it is because I am not using it in English, but with the latest update, whatever it does it is completely wrong. Not just one bit, but it invents whatever it wants on the fly, such as saying things that I didn't say, or even refers to previous parts of the conversation where it said the opposite of whatever it is doing now.

Both current models, ChatGPT 5.3 Instant, and 5.4 Thinking, which are the flagship models you can access with the Plus plan, are unreliable, unable to cooperate even with the simplest task, make huge mistakes, refer to opposite facts and are unable to do anything. The responses are just generic, unhelpful, and lack of any important facts that may be useful.

I remember using ChatGPT 4 which was awesome. You could tell it could solve any simple and hard problems even in long conversations. There wasn't an ability to think or any stuff like this, but that model was able to understand extremely well about anything. 4.1 decreased slightly the performances of the model, but with the release of 5.4 we are not even back to the same level of 5.3 Turbo. It hallucinates even more than that, which is crazy, and I believe both models do not deserve to have either a 3 or a 4 in their names at all, as that should be changed to -3 and -4 respectively to match any future user expectation.

My suggestion is to not use any services at all provided by OpenAI as in their current conditions they are just useless and absolute crap.

Response times horrible, and too pre-occupational

Response times are horrible. I got the 'go' version, but that is too slow and most of the time pages freeze and you are asked if you want to leave the page or wait. Waiting takes forever, but renewing... . ChatGPT Go is very stubborn in its manner of making pictures. They are 'beautiful' and often so much so that kitsch is presented. It takes a long time to generate pictures and even longer to make small changes. It does change the content, but most of the time the wrong way, does not 'listen' to most specific instructions and ignores them and produces the results in its own way. It clearly overthinks, is too eager to make 'pleasing' images. It also hallucinates too much where it is not asked. It needs to learn to take it a notch down, mostly.
