After more than one year in and so far so bad. I joined as a client in June 2025 with a sign up fee of $15,000 under the promise that they would amend my previous returns to get me $15,000 from the IRS or they would refund me the difference. The star professional of the group was John Hyre from the Aspire Network who would then leave without providing any service. All I've done in about 15 months is explain the basics of my account to a team who would then leave and a new team would be assigned to me and we'd repeat that cycle for over a year about 4 times. There's barely any continuity and there's no traction. Now after submitted my 2025 tax documents in July 2026 after being prompted, I am pushed to a last minute crunch of having to answer their questions 2 months later in September, causing me to be forced to rearranged my life around figuring out what happened up to 19 months ago. There's very little continuity, forcing me to have the same conversation with multiple employees who each time apologize and state that it won't happen again. Now I have a completely new team. All I want is the $15,000 that was promised as a refund to me and my 2025 taxes filed before the deadline.

As people say, if I could give zero stars, I would. I considered suing these guys but decided it was not worth my time and trouble. From my perspective, they misrepresented their services to me. IE ran a bunch of seminars showing John Hyre as being part of their team, and then John left, even though that was the only reason I came to Checkmate. Never got a single service from them and in the end I was out $10,000 with zero to show for it.

I would strongly suggest you read their contacts carefully. Do you know that you're not allowed to sue them in small claims court? Might wanna check into that and ask why.

I wouldn't hire these guys if they were the last tax advisors on earth.

I have been working with Checkmate for a few months and even today had a zoom call with them. The feeling of trust and the knowledge I'm gaining when they are helping me and explaining very clearly what I need to understand is more than what I expected.
