Bought a Gothic set. Quite good quality. Heavy pieces. good detail. Heavy, good quality board. A truly excellent value, and Baron was very receptive and helpful when I questioned a slight delay due to the holidays. I would (and will) buy other sets from Baron in a heartbeat.

Item has arrived damaged (stained and scratched). Customer support was quick and offered a free replacement. Unfortunately, the replacement has arrived in the same condition (damaged). This time customer support said that it was within the acceptable quality level and admitted that it was in the same condition as the original item. Upon asking for return procedure they didn’t offer a return label so I had to pay £8 for the pleasure of receiving and returning a faulty item. Customer support was quick but somewhat passive aggressive. Cannot recommend.

I needed a replacement piece for an old chess set I had and Chessbaron was extremely helpful in procuring it for me. Great service and I would highly recommend.

My chess set arrived quickly and well packaged with a lovely note from the seller. It was fairly priced and the shipping was free which was great. I also think it must’ve been declared lower as I didn’t need to pay customs which I always appreciate if sellers do that for their international customers. I contacted the seller once because I was missing the confirmation and tracking mail and he was kind and quick to answer. All in all great experience!

I’m so happy I found Chess Baron. I’d been searching for six months for the perfect chess set. The one I found on Chess Baron was completely wonderful, I’m so happy with it.
Such a lovely lovely company to deal with too. Speedy delivery. Very well packaged. Excellent communication and a lovely note in with the parcel giving the company’s history. Highly recommended.

Horrible experience with ChessBaron.
I expressed my surprise about having to pay fees and taxes without any information about their nature provided by the carrier. I am unhappy that no details about these fees and taxes were given; the site deliberately hides this information, although it should highlight that the carrier may demand taxes. The seller should detail the nature of the fees and taxes and their calculation methods to the customers, instead of hiding this unpleasant surprise until the last moment. The seller simply replied that I am an idiot and that he would not respond to any of my future emails. I am more than shocked by the indecent and outrageous behavior of this seller.

I decided to refuse the parcel and request a full refund by opening a dispute with PayPal. This seller is a disgrace and should be avoided at all costs. I now understand why there are so many ultra-negative comments about him on various internet forums. This is not a professional sales site but an amateur who sells anything and everything without any professionalism, and he allows himself to insult his customers at the slightest disagreement.

Chess Baron is run by a rude, vulgar, and insulting person. Here his respond to my email :
"You can't cancel the order - it's already in France! If we receive the item back, we'll refund it. But if we are charged for having it returned (which is very likely), this will be deducted from the refund.

You've paid £39 for our best selling item - and tax from your government. Stop being ridiculous - it's your government that charges this. Every country does the exact same thing. Did you get that? It's your government.

Have you actually never bought something from a country outside the EU before? Every purchase from a non-EU country is taxed by the country it's received into. You're an idiot!

Further emails will be unread, so don't bother emailing again."

I bought a chess board (£130) which arrived damaged. I contacted Chess Baron who offered me a 35% discount or a replacement. I asked for a replacement and offered to return the original. They said not to bother as it was 'worthless' to them (although they'd have still relieved me of £70 for it if they could have, of course). Also, I had an email which seemed to heavily hint that I was responsible for the damage. The replacement arrived and it was a cheaper (and different coloured version) of the one I'd bought.
In the end, I told them I'd get another from a reputable dealer.

The prices are very competitive, the sets unique and the service is second to none: one piece was slightly damaged (presumably by the courier) and ChessBaron kindly sent a replacement one within days - fantastic stuff, I will be back!

Excellent quality and service from Chess Baron. I purchased their luxury Arabian chess set along with a case to keep the pieces in. I am absolutely delighted with the quality of the products, and the service from Chess Baron was first class. Easy to deal with, great communication, and very prompt delivery. Highly recommended.

I've just purchased a folding Chess Board from Chess Baron. I'd previously read a few bad reviews but decided to find out for myself, good or bad. I can honestly say I'm delighted with my purchase, Lovely looking and of good solid construction, the seller was great to do business with and was friendly and knowledgeable. Plus the board was a very decent price ! I'd be very happy to recommend Chess Baron and their products to anyone looking to buy quality chess related items.

I've bought two chess sets from ChessBaron, a travel set and one of the beautiful marble sets. I couldn't be more pleased with both. The service was excellent too: the travel set had one pawn not entirely varnished. I contacted them and had a replacement within two days. The patterns in the marble set are exquisite. Every piece has it's own character. The marble gives the board both colouring and texture. Amazing craftmanship.

I purchased the World Set from ChessBaron expecting a high-quality product, especially considering the price point. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed:

1) The set arrived damaged, showing signs of wear on every piece. There were scratches, significant dents, and other marks that made it appear used or of subpar quality.
2) The packaging looked repackaged with tape and permanent marker marks.
3) When I reached out, the seller downplayed my concerns, insisted the set met standard quality, and suggested that my expectations were unrealistic and that the product was made of wood so I should expect dents. While I expect natural imperfections, the amount of damage was beyond what can be explained by the product being made from wood.
4) The seller offered to replace a damaged piece, hinting at repackaging practices.
5) The shipping arrangement was misleading. I expected domestic shipping (given I purchased from the .ca URL), but was charged import duties since it was dispatched from the UK.
6) The vendor was not forthcoming about covering return shipping, which is unfair given the evident discrepancies between the product received and the advertisement.
7) For the amount I spent (~400 CAD for only chess pieces without a board), I expect a hassle-free, transparent buying experience and a product that meets the advertised standards. Sadly, my experience mirrors the negative reviews already on Trustpilot.

I'd advise potential buyers to approach with caution.

Unfortunately chess board arrived damaged, but they were quick to offer a free exchange which was sent out very quickly. The board and pieces are of excellent quality and I couldn’t be happier.

The website mentions free shipping worldwide. After paying for the order I was asked from paypal for a payment for a shipping charge. I told the contact that the website claims free shipping worldwide and thats not a good way to do buisness and they decided to cancel the order. A professional e-commerce establishment or a circus? You decide.

I ordered a set of 10 chess boards for our school and found Chess Baron extremely accommodating and professional. I messaged to ask a few questions and had a very prompt and helpful response. The chess boards were delivered and I was very impressed with the quality. We have since ordered another 20 sets. I would highly recommend Chessbaron and would definitely look to purchase again in the near future.

Be cautious with this shop specially when ordering higher priced items as your money will be at risk. It’s basically one man who runs the shop on a shoe string so if you have to return something you are screwed. He seems to be under such a financial pressure that he cannot afford for items to be sent back. He will therefore not accept returns even if it is his fault. Incredible how a shop can survive with such a dismal customer service but my guess it won’t for much longer. In case he accepts the return, you have to always pay the return costs and even that does not protect you from getting your money back as some other customers have mentioned. He will claim that you damaged the product and refuse to pay you the full refund. Please also read the other reviews on Trustpilot as they seem to be accurate and similar to my experience, before ordering anything from this shop. My advice would be if you find another reputable seller which is perhaps a little bit more expensive rather go with that one as with Chess Baron your money will always be at risk. This is not a reputable company.

Superb set and exceptional customer service. I find it hard to believe that this is the same company that I have just read so many scathing reviews about. Honestly, every part of my experience was awesome !! On Thursday 26th January I placed online order for the "Rebecca in Sheesham" set of pieces. At 10:04 am Saturday 28th I received email saying my set will be delivered that day between 2:20 and 3:20. Unfortunately I was at work, so I immediately emailed back to reschedule delivery for Monday 30th. The set came around 1:15 on Monday as promised. Within 10 minutes I had inspected all the pieces. I was totally blown away by the magnificence of this quality set ... All apart from one white pawn that is. I immediately phoned the Chess Baron customer service and spoke to a really friendly chap named Darren. I explained that the pawn in question was just slightly rough around the edges and that I would like a replacement. Darren said "No problem, just send it back and we will send replacement as soon as received. We will even refund the return postage cost." I emailed my proof of posting and was reimbursed within the hour. On Friday 3rd Feb I received my new replacement pawn. Now I am absolutely delighted with my set and super impressed by the total professionalism of Chess Baron. Needless to say, I highly recommend them and will be back for more !!

Item was listed as £149, but when in checkout it increased to £169 - reason given for this was, "We had listed the item at the wrong price on the website" - which can be forgiven, mistakes can be made.

Placed the order, to then receive an e-mail from PayPal 2 days later advising that I was receiving a refund for the item.

Email received from ChessBaron after, stating reason for refund: "I'm so sorry to have to say that we're now out of stock, and the order was taken/accepted in error"

The website is clearly not reliable - would stronlgy advise looking elsewhere if you are purchasing an item as a gift or have a tight deadline.

Snappy delivery. Good price for a nice product. Very happy with my set. Very quick response when I thought I had a problem with my order. Will happily use Chess Baron again.
