We went to the Cirque du Soleil…

We went to the Cirque du Soleil yesterday, Friday 28th February, Please to tell everyone that the show ends this weekend, So nobody else will waste their money on such a let down, nothing like I’d be expecting from great reviews other years, couldn’t understand the language and no explaining what it’s all about!!! Trapeze acts good, felt sorry for them, with such bad supporting acts and production. They altered the Grandeur of the Albert Hall to accommodate their 40th anniversary and made it look hideous.

So-so at best.

Overall OK, to say it lived up to expectations.. far from it.
For circus of such grandeur acrobatics were rather plain and mediocre. This year's programme seemed to be focused on some story line rather than spectacularities.. but I kind of lost it half way through. And to be frank it wasn't well stitched together anyway..
And yet! If you forget for a minute that it is Cirque du Soleil and leave all your expectations aside, and imagine it to be just some low budget entertainment show. I'd say it ticked all the boxes!
Most of performances were accompanied with great vocal support, and I think that what made it bearable.
Atmosphere was OK and kept in style of old fashioned Italian circus. Language was mostly Italian, mixed with English and Ukrainian, at places unpalatable salad of words that annoyed me greatly, despite the fact that I understand already two out of three languages spoken there.
If price of the tickets means little to you, i'd say overall quite enjoyable show and if you have great company like I had, the evening will be a success!
Otherwise, you will feel ripped off as it is barely worth half of what they charge to see it.
Verdict.
Would I recommend it? NO!

Underwhelmed and out of pocket

Have only ever heard rave reviews of Cirque du Soleil so was very confused when I had this experience at the Royal Albert Hall! I am always quick to give positive feedback when deserved but feel completely justified in giving a low score for this. Over-promised and under-delivered throughout. Meaningless 'storyline' that confused rather than clarified and was clearly padding out a show that was short of material. I was embarrassed and cringing as I was forced to watch the bizarre, unfunny and completely inexplicable "Romeo and Juliet" scene. As someone who works professionally as a musician, I was perplexed to have live singing deliver parts of the non-story. Also wasn't sure why there was so much spoken in Italian when there had been no explanation of context - should I have researched the background of a circus family event before attending in the same way that I would check out an opera? Thankfully the technicians had done a great job with sound and lighting which made the thing bearable and we had lovely neighbours all around us in our "cheap" seats up in the gods. I am especially disappointed because I cannot believe how excited friends have been for me when I told them what my husband and I had bought each other for Christmas - is there a refund scheme? Good reputations are not built on performances like this one and I am sad to leave such poor feedback. There was so much skill and perfection amongst the performers who take enormous risks to perform like this in public; however their professionalism has been diminished as a result of poor cost-cutting creative management decisions to present an uninspiring and, yes, lacklustre performance.

CORTEO - Big big disappointment, fell asleep

This is 5th show I went to see by Cirque du Soleil and it is the worst. I could not think that they can put a performance of such low quality. The acrobatic scenes are around 10%, the rest of the performance resembles low key story play for children. I even felt asleep at the end. There is nothing special not a single wau element. I would not be buying tickets anymore in advance for Cirque due Soleil without reading reviews.

Mesmerising, Daring, and Unforgettable!

I loved this show, and so did my 12- and 14-year-olds—it was mesmerising, awe-inspiring, ballsy, and gutsy, with stunning visuals. A bit bonkers in places, but that’s what I like. Massive shoutout to the performers and musicians who dedicate their lives to this. We sat Ringside East, and the views were excellent—you could see, hear, and sniff every detail. Would I go again? Damn right, I would. Bravo!

experience absolutely ruined by idiots photographing / filming show with glaring phone screens

Performances themselves were great, but the whole experience absolutely ruined by idiots photographing and filming the show with glaring phone screens throughout!

We politely asked the woman directly in front of my family - who'd been filming practically the entire time - to kindly dim her screen as it was glaring for the people behind her. She was adamant that she was fully within her rights to do as she pleased, and her partner backed her up saying, "Cirque explicitly allows audience photography and filming to boost ticket sales, so we're doing them a favour - so you can stuff it!"

At intermission, I spoke to an usher about this. He radioed for his supervisor. The supervisor apologised and assured me that she would make an announcement reminding audiences to be considerate of others whilst filming/photographing with their phones, and promised to keep an eye on the woman in front of me - that she would speak to her if she sees her continue disrupting others with her glaring phone screen.

No announcement whatsoever was made, and no promised intervention by the supervisor at all. The woman in front of us blithely continued filming the entire show until the end. It is clear from the supervisor's empty promises and lack of action, that Cirque allows photography/filming so that audiences will help advertise via social media postings, without the slightest regard for audiences who have paid a premium for tickets only to have their experience ruined by the inconsiderate.

Never again, Cirque, you’ve lost a family of longtime fans to your greed and lack of care for your audiences.

I'm disappointed—this was my second…

I'm disappointed—this was my second time watching Cirque du Soleil, and it was nothing like before. The show felt amateurish, almost like a school performance. They spent the entire night pretending it was an Italian-themed show, only to suddenly start making jokes in russian at the end. I feel bad for those who paid for the tickets. Avoid this! It’s not the Cirque du Soleil it used to be.

Very disappointing

Very disappointing! I have been a fan for many years and this show lacked the variety of acts, the wonderful fantasy costumes and make-up and the usual overall fun night out expected.
I agree with all of the other poor reviews and certainly would not recommend it. Not sure that I will go again next year.

Poor story and restricted view

Really poor story and difficult to follow, artists average, clowns not good.
Seats had a very poor view of the stage,
It is true that at the time of buying said “very side view” but the statement was completely misleading as this was not only a side view but very much a restricted view due to the installation of a black cloth from our seats to the stage. In addition, a curtain was halfway down during part of the show, restricting the view even more. I have been to the theatre a couple of times, and I know those seats do not have a very side view; they only had it because the show decided to install the above. Therefore, a warning should have been put in place at the time of buying those seats, clearly advising on this. Something along the lines of: “Be aware that due to the installation of different cloths and curtains, these seats have a restricted view of approximately half of the stage.”

Corteo

A rather disappointing performance, lacking the wow factor one typically expects from Cirque Du Soleil. The story was confusing, with a lot of Italian dialogue that was difficult to follow. The show dragged on and became quite tedious, with very little acrobatics on display. I've attended smaller circus shows that were far more impressive. Overall, a let-down.

Absolutely shocking

Absolutely shocking, could not see the performance due to the stage being split in 2, paid a fortune for tickets and have written to them and the response is equally unacceptable - absolute rip off this year.

Disappointing

As a massive Cirque de Soleil fan I was really looking forward to Corteo at the Royal Albert Hall. However we were really disappointed - I had no idea what the story was about (something about a funeral?), none of the acts really had the wow factor of previous shows and there was so much disjointed padding between the main acts it added to a lack of coherence. Ultimately a very expensive circus show that wasnt particularly memorable. Felt like they had tried to produce it more cheaply. Will not now just book again without seeing some reviews of future shows as I see others have been similarly disappointed and should have done more research before parting with £500 or so for the 4 of us.

What a massive disappointment

What a massive disappointment, I have been to so many of their shows around the world and this year’s show in London was quite frankly shocking. I am a big fan of Cirque du Soleil and it was hard to write this review but I felt I needed to .

Have been to two previous performances…

Have been to two previous performances and this was by far the worst. The storytelling was awful, and not nearly enough good big moments. The staging of the event was terrible too. Could hardly see a thing. Putting a curtain down the middle of the venue was a silly idea. Lots of people around us were complaining and disappointed.

Wonderful Show

This was the first time I have seen Cirque du Soleil. I took my 9 year old granddaughter and we both loved it. Not been to the Royal Albert Hall before either but would love to do again. Beautiful building and helpful staff. Great afternoons entertainment.

Major disappointment

What a disappointment. Not even a shadow of previous shows. Some items were fabulous - over all poor. They split the hall in two with massive curtain, soz unless you are in the middle seating, very limited visibility.. why did they do that?
