DO NOT apply at CITIBANK
Citibank gave me $10, 700.00 credit line on 12/2024 and in the course of 12 months I used the card periodically. In the last 3 months of $1, 921.00 and on 12/18/25 they changed my credit limit to $1, 970.00 and this changes my usage percentage from 18.5% to 98% and affects my credit score. Do NOT apply for CITIBANK as they are noncaring jerks from the men to the woman and its terrible place tp do business.
Run run run from Citibank
Citibank's customer service is hideous!!! They show lack of empathy and just lack of care. You can't even freeze your card online like Capital One. You have to speak with a rep or the automatic system to freeze it. By that time, you might have thousands of dollars of fraudulent charges. Their online system is archaic. You only speak to overseas reps where there is not only a language barrier, but a culture barrier. All Citibank is doing is sending their jobs overseas to save money, but they still want US citizens to utilize them at no change in costs. How is Citibank still in existence. They just need to fold up and everyone go home.
Been trying to get my own money out for…
Been trying to get my own money out for a month, they tell me I have to go to a branch they have one west of the Mississippi, this bank is a scam, website is terrible, customer service is terrible, heed the warnings don't give them your money!!!
If I could give Citibank fewer stars
If I could give Citibank fewer stars, I would. I've had TWO incredibly bad experiences with this bank each over 15 years apart. TLDR This is the worst company (credit card or otherwise) I have ever worked with in my 51 years of being alive. Between ill informed baseline agents with hard to decipher English to grumpy specialists who give demonstrably different info from their colleagues, to arcane systems and procedures that defy logic, to incompetence and malfeasance on a near criminal level I cannot stress strongly enough to NEVER do business with Citibank for any reason. Read below for the detail synopsis.
Citibank was my first card out of college in the 90's and I had it for 15 years. I canceled because one month, after paying my bill over the phone with a live agent (which was the norm in the 2000's) the following month they charged me a late fee and interest on an alleged $3 underpayment?! They refused to credit me the money so I canceled the card entirely. Fast forward 20 years and I wanted FIFA ticket access with an AAdvantage account for my 3 kids so I decided to give them another try. Big mistake. With an impending trip abroad, I applied with over a month to get the card delivered. They failed to get me the card in 30 days from a combination of horrible customer service agents who dont understand US postal system to straight up factual discrepancies between what supervisors will tell you compared to regular agents. So I leave on the trip without the card, NBD. In my travels I keep in touch trying to locate the card and asking if they can just send one internationally. Fine, but i need to have a verified address in the foreign country and it COULD take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive?! No thanks. Eventually, after HOURS on the phone, the card is located in my home state and I get my MIL to send pictures of the front and back so I can add it to my digital wallet. Then begins their fraud protection verification process. I go through it and AM TOLD I was verified so I can load the card into Google Wallet. I do this WHILE on the phone with Fraud protection. It doesnt load. The error message says its the banks fault. The Fraud protection agent says its Google's fault. I trust her, like a fool. I spend another hour talking to Google who correctly points out that a) the error message is correct and b) thousands of other users have the same issue with their banks. They send a detailed email about digital tokens and virtual cards and suggest I only speak to Citibanks online banking division. I call them and they say "we dont understand this, all we can do is send you to Fraud" OK, send me there. Once I returned to Fraud for the second time I am rudely informed that because I was back with them again, their internal policies dictate that we start the entire verification process over again BUT NONE OF THE PREVIOUS VERIFICATION METHODS CAN BE USED!? This means that ONLY a letter sent to my home (remember im abroad) can now be used to verify me? I cant even CLOSE the account because the account has been flagged.
Very poor experience with Citibank.
Very poor experience with Citibank.
Customer service is inefficient and unhelpful. Communication is slow, unclear, and often inconsistent. Resolving even simple issues takes far too long and requires multiple calls with no clear resolution.
Additionally, the new account bonuses are not delivered promptly as advertised. There is very little transparency around the timeline, and follow-ups are required with no definitive answers. This creates frustration and a lack of trust as a customer.
Overall, the experience leaves you feeling undervalued and ignored. I would not recommend Citibank—there are far better banking options with clearer communication and more reliable service.
AVOID AT ALL COST
This is the worst bank I’ve ever encountered in my 50 years on this planet. Anyone who suggests or reviews otherwise is either paid off or part of their institution. Constant account freezes due to “fraud,” constant restrictions, and they’ll even send you a debit card that doesn’t work. Customer service is the rudest, most useless group I’ve ever encountered. It takes 20 days to cash a check, despite advertising otherwise. There needs to be a federal investigation into the practices of this bank, and I implore anyone who has experienced this bank’s fraudulent behavior and false advertising to contact their local congressman to launch an inquiry immediately. This bank deserves negative stars.
Please be aware…
Citibank is the biggest scam of a bank that I have ever experienced. They literally closed my account without any explanation and then held my closing balance. When I received my letter that was supposed to state the reason for closing it it literally said we have the right to discontinue service and that’s it. So unprofessional and not the kind of bank I would trust with my money. Please take your money elsewhere.
I am amazed at how lazy these people…
I am amazed at how lazy these people are. I disputed an item, purchased 9/30/25, never received anything but excuses of why the product was never delivered. To this day have never received anything. $129 no less. Citi said they never got a letter from me so declined the dispute. Called and gal apologized, reopen acct and acknowledged she got my correspondence. Called yesterday, two weeks later and was told they just got it so couldn’t help me. Today another decline. What a big help they are. My order is still in Italy from China so guess Citi wants to help these scam artist.
Don’t trust Citibank
On 9/17/25, I took advantage of a promotion ran by Citibank. The promotion says if you open a savings account for minimum $25,000, the bank will pay 4.25% interest for three months. So, I sat down with Citibank representative, named Israel, he took my money and opened the account for me. We deposited $38,000 into that account within 10 days according to the bank’s requirements for opening that type of account.
I trusted the representative and was excited that my money was growing at this big bank.
Aftet 3 months, I checked my account, and to my shock, the account was earning like $2.5 per month. It should be earning close to $135/month.
I spoke with the manager, Celia, and she said part of the money was cash!!! My initial deposit was cash, true, but how come the rep Israel didn’t tell us about this limitation!!!???
That is cheating the consumer.
I am thinking to close all my account with this bank. I have been with them as a loyal customer for like 30 years now.
Citibank Darien branch IL is not to be trusted.
Loyal for 7 years - sent to the garbage
Member for almost a decade abandoned when I needed help! I work for a state in higher education. I've never needed assistance, but when my hours were reduced, Citi bank said they aren't doing any accommodations. Discover bank did and I will bank with them in the future. After I pay off my cards with Citi, I will NEVER recommend them to anybody and excpecially not a state employee.
Extremely Poor Experience with Citi AAdvantage Credit CardI want to share my recent experience as…
I want to share my recent experience as a cautionary note. Before my account was due for the annual fee, I called Citi to cancel the card. Instead, I was persuaded to keep the account open and switch to a no-fee option a decision I now regret.
Despite this agreement in early October 2025, Citi never removed the annual fee. They began charging late fees and interest, and soon their collections department started calling multiple times a day, which felt harassing. Each time I contacted Citi, on four separate occasions, I was told the fees would be reversed and that the process takes time. However, two months later, nothing has been resolved, and the collection calls continue.
This experience highlights serious issues with Citi’s customer service and internal processes. Based on what I’ve encountered, I strongly advise avoiding Citi credit cards.
RUUUNNNNNNNN
RUUUNNNNNNNN! I opened up a checking account, not even a month with the account they decide to close it because a violation of THEIR terms and conditions. I didnt have time to change my direct deposit. I am still waiting over 4 months for MY hard earned $ . And everytime i call they have no updates. This is so ridiculous.
I'm sorry to say I predicted what would…
I'm sorry to say I predicted what would happen when I took advantage of a promotional 0% for six months on a Home Depot purchase. Let me pause while I state a fact, I am consistently 850 credit rating! So my invoice arrives and I set up my payment on the Home Depot (Citibank) web site, scheduled on November 11th to pay the (well over minimum) $100.00, to be drawn on 12/1/2025, the due date. Stated I was all set on the site, but no confirmation number. Odd, I thought. And also thought watch this be trouble! Checking my Chase accounts this AM I noticed I had $100.00 more in my bank account, than my Quicken register and quickly realized the Home Depot payment hasn't been taken yet. I went to the web site, and seen across the top, my payment is over due. No emails no texts, squat. I started into a chat and asked why and they stated I am overdue and they could fix that by taking my payment right away, and setting up automated draw. Fisrt off in the chat it states give no personal information, now the agent wants my credit card number and my information. I scheduled that payment, gave "it" date and time, agent stated "can you prove it". I stated I knew this was going to be trouble with the company, as this is the first time in decades I used my home depot card and did not just pay it in the store while I was there shopping anyway. I told the agent, we are done, you will never again, and my blood was boiling. I drove the 30 miles to the local Home Depot, wrote them a check to pay off in full the last invoice. I told the agent (somewhere in india I'm certain) I hope you enjoy that fing you just gave me for that paltry bit of 7 day interest, because you will never have another opportunity. Shortly after making complete payment at the HD, I received a text message that they have not received my payment. You can not make this stuff up! Every other account I have, I get for of five notices that my payment is due, even though the payment is and has been scheduled for weeks. Shell, for one, AMEX, is another. Sometimes I still question, did I set those payments, and a quick trip into my Quicken register and it lists, date scheduled, conf number, time and AM or PM when I set it up, as to jog my memory. In the HD citibank memo, there was no confirmation number, but date and time. I thought it odd no confirm #, but now I am a firm believer this was all planned to play out like this and I was not going to get any message, until they had their interest hooks deeply embedded. My purchase was only 336 bucks, and going into Christmas, I thought what the heck, six months to pay 300 bucks? No worries. I have no other time payments, everything is paid when the bills land and scheduled on the date received, for the amount due. Entered into the register, and it's all good. This was a one time learning experience with Citibank Home Depot credit card I have had forever. While I'm not sure it's always been citi, I do not take advantage of special financing. This was a deliberate plan to screw somebody, I'm glad it wasn't for a fridge, freezer , or some other big purchase. Blood still boils thinking about this.. "do you have proof"!!!
The absolute worse banking company I've…
The absolute worse banking company I've ever used. Account management and posted transactions are always days or even a week behind. My account is constantly having money taken from transactions that's already paid out at the moment the transaction occurred. There are some serious flaws with this banking system. It's impossible to get a customer service rep on the line. I've had representatives hang up and act like they couldn't hear me and disconnect the call after waiting 30 minutes to speak with someone. Never again. DO NOT USE THIS BANK or CREDIT CARD. You will regret it.
I just don’t trust Citibank
I just don’t trust Citibank. The interest is 30% and daily periodic rate is .1% basically so if you have to use it you better pay that sucker off in a hurry. The bill is discrete and easily dismissed as junk mail. The voice response unit for paying a bill is annoying and requires a lot of patience. So yeah, I don’t trust this company for anything, don’t trust making payments to them, and certainly don’t want to pay 30% to finance with them. Pay it in full! Don’t be this sucker’s sucker. Citibank performs to the minimum of the letter of the law with penalties to the maximum as stated in the disclosures. Take Care. Best regards.
Almost impossible to log in online
Almost impossible to log in online. Archaic tech programming separates home phone line and mobile phone line when only 29% of people have landlines, and if you put home phone line as mobile phone line, you cannot log in. Then when I contacted customer service and said the same thing I said above, she got mad and said she would end the call if I did not tone down the complaint. Absolutely insane. I will wait the 72 hours she said I would have to wait to be able to log in to my OWN account after switching to mobile phone number, and if there is the slightest problem, the Citibank can slide back into the slime they existed in before I stupidly got their Shell card not knowing it was Citibank. Frankly, F them.
Sadly
Sadly, there are some serious flaws in the Citibank customer support system. I can’t comprehend why I had to call three times and be on the line for over a half an hour for a very simple issue. May be the first time that a service provider hung up on me. I was simply truing to explain the issue. I will not be using Citibank except for Costco purchases. Frankly I’m surprised that Costco puts up with this under performing partner.
Got charged an overdraft because of…
Got charged an overdraft because of some random unauthorized transaction. They reversed the fee when I called, but the fact that my account even got compromised is just crazy
The WORST
Extremely disappointing. Citi is absolutely, 100%, the WORST bank I have ever dealt with. Out of many. Virtually every transaction is a time-consuming, frustrating pain in the butt. Like I want to scream after every interaction. The WORST EVER!
Trying to complete an online transaction, I was instructed to call in for a code. I called the # provided, explained why I was calling and spent 10 minutes "getting verified", giving the rep several pieces of information. Then he tells me I need call a different number for a different department!
I was trying to do a routine (but important to me) online transfer. Three different reps confirmed that it was being processed. But after a week it didn't show up anywhere. So I called again and guess what? It DISAPPEARED! No record of it anywhere. They operate like a 3rd rate bank in the third world country of West Podunk. Only less efficient.
It's amazing how they are even still in business. Avoid Citi if you value your time and sanity.
I recently visited the Citbank…
I recently visited the Citbank Hauppage NY branch when i needed info and copies of deposited check for a refi i was doing with my home. I was leaving for a vacation in a few hours but the bank that i was doing business with needed copies of deposited checks asap. 2 workers got me out of a jam and I wanted to recognize them for their wonderful attitude and hard work. Their names Susan Karau and Brianne Robrecht. Please thank them for me. You have 2 amazing workers at that branch. Steve Hillebrand
