Unauthorised Charges
CitiRental made unauthorised charges to my credit card and did not reimburse the deposit. I knew the charges were false so have just gone through a lengthy and tiresome 3 month process raising a dispute to these charges through my credit card provider. The claims handler found in my favour, and the charges CitiRental applied to my card have been reimbursed.
I have hired vehicles all around the world and should have walked away when I was not given a copy of the Vehicle Inspection as is usual practice. It is also standard practice for car rental companies to put a temporary hold of a specified amount on your credit card, a preauthorisation until the vehicle is returned. CitiRental actually take £350.00 out immediately! They refer to it in paperwork and on their website as a Deposit, a Prepayment and an Authorisation. SO which is it? It cannot be all three. When I returned the vehicle I accompanied the staff member on the 'Vehicle Return Check', again standard procedure. However what is not standard procedure is the lack of paperwork from CItiRental. When I requested a copy of the Vehicle Return Check I was informed 'we don't do that.' Why they 'Don't do that' became crystal clear 1 Day Later when I received an email stating I was to be charged for 'Fresh Damage to the Vehicle,' accompanied by an undated photograph. CitiRental advise 'A Garage Nominated by the Owner will Carry out the Repairs.' This garage is called Kar-Dok owned by DB Asset Ltd who also own CItiRental. How convenient for them! I smelt a Big Fat Rat!
I immediately rang CitiRental where extremely rude staff refused to answer any questions and refused to give me the name and contact details of either a Manger or Director. All companies have a complaints procedure, except CitiRental whose staff went out of their way to be evasive. After repeated requests of where to send a letter of complaint I was given a generic email address. After sending a Formal Letter of Compliant I received an email stating 'the colleague is presently on leave and will address your comments on her return.' This nameless 'Colleague' must be on a very long holiday as I'm still waiting for an answer!
CitiRental failed to address all communication I sent, they refused to give me the managers name and contact details, they refused to give me a copy of the "Vehicle Inspection' and the "Vehicle Return Check.' This lack of transparency would suggest they have something to hide.
I would avoid this untrustworthy, unprofessional company at all cost.
