Coban Guitars Reviews 

I was bought a Coban Guitars kit for Christmas. I had never thought of building my own guitar - I tried at school aged 14 and it was a miserable failure - but when the kit arrived it looked beautiful and I was inspired. Staining and varnishing the body has been enjoyable and building the kit has been great fun, plus I now have another guitar !! What's not to like. I contacted Coban Guitars a coupe of time and I found the customer service to be superb. When I need another guitar ( which won't be too long - one can never have enough ) , I'll look at Coban first !

Excellent. Easy to order. Correct stuff arrived promptly and in good condition. What more could you ask for? Simples.

Bought this Les Paul for our sons birthday and opening the box I must say I am impressed by the quality of the instrument.
I have built guitars from scratch and repair and set up guitars for a hobby and this is a good project , the top laminate is very thin so care will have to be taken when rubbing down but if its done with care not a problem .
Also included were spare pieces of laminate to test stain on before applying to the guitar itself ( a good idea ) .
Overall very pleased .

Have dealt with Coburn several times over the past 7 years. Guitar and now ukelele.
Cannot fault them.

Received the diy guitar kit next day, well packaged and quality value for money items. The ash body looks amazing and neck with ebony fretboard feels really nice. I've not started the build yet but trust Mark's service if I encounter any issues.

I recently bought a neck/body only kit based on the PRS shape,with mahogany body and neck with spalted top.
This is the first Coban product I've purchased but the 4th kit l've built over the past five years, plus two partscasters.
Like all these previous efforts this kit has some good points, some ok points,. ..and a serious bad point which almost made it unplayable.

Good points...... decent quality woods and good straight neck ,parts of which ( body ) required really prolonged sanding to remove residual machining marks. The finished guitar 🎸 is well balanced , a good weight and resonant.

Ok points ... decently cut nut, nicely figured top, fret ends not too sharp ( but of course you must wait for acclimatization before correcting this),... body pockets ( neck seat, controls housing, pickup housing, tremelo housing all cut tidily) but the latter two needed slightly altering to accommodate hardware.

Bad points.....if I had glued the neck in with the "tongue" flush to the back of the seat pocket ,it would have been impossible to get correct intonation.
A dry run had revealed this potential problem so I added.an 1/8 th inch spacer to the tongue end....I should have added a 1/4 inch spacer as I've had to remove/ shorten the trem saddle springs to get intonation correct.

The problem was compounded by the very sloppy machining of the holes to take the posts for the twin pivot tremelo unit . This necessitated them being glued in place.... but I could not change the fact that the hole drilled on the 6th. string side was nearly 2 mm nearer the neck than the other, again reducing the margin required for intonation and giving the trem unit a slanted look.

So..

l've managed to get a decent looking axe... but a beginner might have serious problems with this kit if they all have a similar fault

Coban kit no.LP-PAB 7 WMLPPBAS. I was impressed with the fast delivery and quality of the kit. Everything needed to complete the guitar was in the box. The good quality wooden parts were easily rubbed down and finished with Tru oil.the only thing I had to do was file out the holes in the bridge and tailpiece. All the electrics were colour coded and easily fitted

I've bought a Semi Hollow Les-Paul shaped DIY kit.
As I needed to import it from UK to Germany I was curious how this will work. But it was easy.
Coban minused the UK VAT from price and made a proper custom control declaration. So it was delivered by DPD, to which I paid the EU tax and a small custom fee of 5€ (or so). BTW: DPD is importing through NL. So don't wonder.
The delivery was anyway fast. I've ordered weekends and delivery was Thursday.

I've had a couple of their guitars for my fiancé, he's a lifelong fan of judas priest. He had them as a Christmas present and they're in pride of place on our hearth. In their stands.

I've read since people have had issues with their purchases.
If there's a problem. They fix it, give advice and friendly and informative to talk to, if you're not sure just ask. They don't make you feel awkward for asking something that to others may seem obvious.

Tbh I wasn’t sure weather to buy a guitar kit or not but Mark made the buying process easy and I got exactly what I wanted. He sent me load’s of different pictures of different kits & tops so I could choose just what was right for me. Will definitely be buying for UK MUSIC SUPPLIES again.
