I bought a cocoon standing fireplace in 2021 and the black hood rusted. Top3bydesign replaced this hood but the same thing happened again and I haven’t been able to get a response from them since. Big shame because it has disfigured a good product.
I would have liked them to admit when they replaced it that the same thing was going to happen again, so that I could perhaps have got money back instead. The RRP was $3300.
What happened to the company?
What happened to the company?
I have four of these things. Wonderful devices, lovely cameras app etc, nice practical stuff like logs when you or family leave the house and arms the camera etc. In built alarm.
Perfect really, my phone died and I managed to install the app again but couldn’t get past setup. A few weeks later the app is gone from all stores and the website down. Websites cost like $20 a year, the least the company could do is explain that they have gone out of business or whatever. Can’t find anything online like their Twitter or Facebook.
Cowardly behaviour and very sad to invest in these elegant and very promising devices only for the company to bolt and not even have the courtesy to leave some kind of explanation up online somewhere.
I’ve had the cocoon for a few years…
I’ve had the cocoon for a few years since 2018. Generally it was easy to set up and use. Provided a good timeline of in and out of the house and could use it to live view dog and inside the house. However recently they don’t seem to be in business in the UK and the system no longer is recording videos. Great tech still provides access data but no longer Storing video.
Cocoon Smart Camera failed with SD card…
I Bought Cocoon Smart Wireless Camera (outdoor) about a year ago and working fine. But when I tried to install an micro sd card for storage, it doesn't detect both of my working micro sd cards. Kind of disappointment and seems like an effort to profitable by cloud subscriptions.
Cocoon Really Abysmal Performance (CRAP)
I just bought the cocoon feeder…
I just bought the cocoon feeder yesterday. The setup was a bit clunky, but got it working after about 15 minutes through trial and error. Now I'm happy with it. Camera is good quality, both visible and IR. Feeding schedule is intuitive, and it's very flexible with how much to feed each time.
This company once was good
This company made great security devices until it was sold out to an American takeover in 2019 and all investors lost their investments. The product has not been supported since then and as these technical bits age they cannot keep up with changing and enhanced operating systems in phones. I had 3 such cameras and now they are all defunct. Do not buy one of these
Had mine ages but every time i need to…
Had mine ages but every time i need to pair it again its a complete nightmare. You can spend hours and if your lucky it eventually pairs. I have had enough and going to buy a different make.
Thus far terrible.
Thus far terrible, I bought a version / gen 2 camera, thinking I was getting a deal as it was on sale for $48 down from $156, got it today and tried to set it up, abject failure.
I have a Nokia 9 pureview with android 10, so the latest OS, so maybe that's an issue, it shouldn't be as focusing on the newest OS is usually standard for most companies, but maybe not, I tried following the instructions 3 times all ending in failure so I head to the troubleshooting page, you know you're in for a ride when the page lists every possible scenario, so I follow all these even though I have router set up perfectly and have zero issues with anything else, so now I'm a little annoyed, try again and failure again, does its first chirp waits about 20 seconds then fails, same error, check WiFi password, which is correct as I copied it from my browser to the app, no spaces or gaps, still fails, I've tried 6 times today and every time it fails, this pathetic, why try and be smart and use sounds, use a damn QR code like everyone else, at least they work, I've sent an email to support but I can guess the response, "follow the troubleshooting guide and try again" a waste of my time and money, if this product is so hit and miss I say avoid and go with a brand that works out of the box.
Absolutely terrible post sales…
Absolutely terrible post sales assistance. Go for products like Ring instead. Their iOS app has been faulty for almost a year now (image won’t rotate to landscape and the re-pairing process with the camera is a complete nightmare taking an hour or more to do). They tell me they don’t have time to mend the app because they are focussing on getting new products out to the market. That’s right - if you are an existing customer who has paid good money for their product, you do not matter as much as new customers. Messaging could not be clearer. Avoid at all costs. Repeated direct follow-ups with them have achieved zero. My concerns are brushed off and de-prioritised.
Great cameras
I have 5 of these, one was faulty and took a bit to have it replaced even after sending them samples, eventually got a replacement, easy set up, good view anywhere software and the SD card is great dont need cloud, could have better mounting but overall excellent.
iPhone 11 cannot disarm cocoon
Hi guys, cannot deactivate (arm-unarm) my cocoon on iPhone 11. The bar at the bottom of the screen isn’t moving/responding.
Not bad. Needs more work
I purchased one of these a month ago and it was excellent great piece of kit and gave me notifications when something was different
The main issue I have is that after leaving the house one of the neighbours had a key to walk the dog and even though the cocoon was armed I received no notifications that he had entered or even walked into exactly where the cocoon was located and was speaking. Why on earth did it not realise that a key turning, someone speaking inside etc was not normal?
I wanted to buy another 2 of these but will now need to get something else.
Leaving on a good note ..... the camera is HD and night vision and is great quality so I would suggest having one of these to view inside and use as an alarm and something like the ring doorbell etc to give better notifications.
Probably good to know....
Below ist the email conversation I had with Cocoon about promised updates and developments....which makes me not buy the current model.
Gave it a neutral 3 stars
Hi Hugo,
We’re working hard on our next generation of products, which we’ll be announcing in the Autumn. In the meantime we’ll be continuing to support all of our existing 1st and 2nd generation customers, but we’re not actively promoting our previous products as we have no remaining stock for distribution and no additional production capacity whilst we work on the new version.
Many thanks,
Callum

Apologies, but this answer is about as stale as your website and app.
A roadmap is a roadmap because it has dates against items.
At least in all the software and IT companies I work and worked for.
So instead of a reply not telling anything, what about the roadmap and "other" commitments?
This is not really raising my confidence into product and company so far.

Hey Hugo,
Thanks for getting in touch with us about these updates.
We are still looking into releasing these as they are listed on the roadmap, however, we do have other commitments that are taking priority for the time being. We will definitely be in touch once we have more info we can share.
Hope this helps,

Bought Samples Testing Purpose but all ok
I just bought few Samples as reselling to my customers and firstly I though to setup my home , initially I got error message while setting up with WiFi connection but I decided to start with fresh connection so for that I turned off my router and start and open The app and while sounds transmit you need to place cocoon near to router for just first time and it’s Catch up perfectly and Cocoon ready to use , it’s great when it’s sending alert to my phone directly for any new activity within the range of cocoon , the only thing I realized within the app is slow watch live and app it’s may be due to since they using all over the cloud based and no memory card slot or Hdd needed but it’s flawless. I hope it’s gets improved by server response time , hosting or what ever involved cloud based to boost the system , But you need super Fast internet for that
Clunky setup with no support
Clunky setup with no support. Typical high tech company with nobody to answer a phone so they don't even provide a number anywhere. After playing with various setting and rebooting numerous times myself I managed to get working but the app is slow and not the most responsive.

Hi I got a cocoon camera set up in less than 5 min, so easy to add my wife's phone and with such an easy security choice we couldn't feel safer knowing that the camera will learn all the time.

Disappointed… but wait...
I am another one of the disappointed customers (was one of the original backers on Indiegogo, received my device some time ago but only tried to set it up recently; serial number of device appears to be CS01AB SAAANP).
Basically, camera would not connect to our Wifi. Tried multiple times to reset the camera, but only to get the same error messages over and over again. Also tried to contact Cocoon a couple of days ago, no response to far. Disappointed.
Update (20181206): I followed the suggestion of the Cocoon representative and chat directly (via texting messages) with a Cocoon support staff Callum. Really appreciate the effort spent by Callum in trying to figure out what may be preventing my Cocoon from working properly. After tentatively concluding that it may be a hardware issue, Callum offered to ship me a replacement device. I am really looking forward to receiving it and finding out what this camera could do!
