Very enjoyable day!
I had a very enjoyable time at Comic Con Aberdeen! It was my first ever visit to a monopoly event (and to a comic con in general). There were heaps of vendors which was great and I thought the lineup of guests was good too.
I only went to get a photo with Karen Gillan - I thought £85 was expensive considering you only get about 10 seconds to chat to her, but I was still pleased with my experience.
I will be back next year depending on the guests that attend! I think a larger area for the panels would be great so that everyone is able to attend. I also thought the props they had were cool, but some of them looked a little low-budget and definitely could have been spruced up a bit. Hopefully this will happen next year with the revenue they have made from this years event.
Again, it is great to see something like this in Aberdeen and we definitely need more of it! Good job overall and definitely a fun day out!!!
Amazing weekend
Wow, what a weekend! Absolutely loved meeting so many celebrities and attending panels, and seeing all the cosplayers. Was a great vibe!
Fantastic time
Fantastic time, thank you for such an amazing weekend I got to meet my absolute fav and totally did not disappoint
Had a great weekend!
This is a great event overall. Myself and my daughter spent two full days there just hanging out and getting pics with other cosplayers. There were several guests we were excited to meet, although we had to limit our interactions as the cost can add up fast. I do feel like photos and autographs are on the expensive side, especially when your hurried through so quickly. My only other negative would be the quality of the merch stalls this year. There was a lot of product duplication (how many funko pops does one event need) and a lot of 'knock off' merch rather than officially licensed stuff. Regardless, we had a great time and can't wait for next year!
Never too late
At nearly 50 this was my first comic- con and I had a fantastic time!! And I met SPIKE!!!
Good event let down by venue hosts
The event was reasonably well organised but expensive in terms of ticket admission and meet the guests.
However, it was great to see a good range of celebs from all different TV shows.
The food provision by the P&J Live was atrocious. Firstly, running out of food by Saturday lunchtime, and massive queues with no communication from staff about food availability - they were expecting guests, right?!? When the food was ready it was a very limited, overpriced menu - burgers or chips - and the burgers were revolting. They went straight in the bin. There were so many families in attendance, people travelling distances to the event and no nearby options for food - Comic Con were really let down by the hosts in this respect.
If the services provided by the venue were dramatically improved that would really make the event something special for Aberdeen.
Always room for improvement
There was a lot more room to move around this year, lots of variety in stalls, the tabled seating area was larger and had more capacity. Entry to the venue was once again well organised and waiting time in the queue was minimal, the props for taking photos were amazing and had a wide variety for choice, the only draw back was the lines for getting photos taken, I saw the queue coming from the entry point, run 3/4 of the hall then turn 180 degrees and go back on itself. I don't know if people were all queing to see the same person or see different people and assumed that their time would come by the time the line moved forwards.
Perhaps a series of two lines sign posted with the times such as queue A 10:30 - 10:45 Bernard Hill.
B 10:30 - 10:50 Maggie Smith.
Each line could be closed 5 minutes before the end of the session. Allowing those arriving for the next session 5 minutes to start queueing.
This might reduce long queues of people waiting 30+ minutes for their assigned session.
A lot of people arrive in costumes that can get very warm whilst wearing, a Station in the foyer offering free bottles of water might be a good idea.
Once again the prices we very reasonable and for the most part the event was well organised and the celebrities that attended well chosen. This is a very popular event and I would very much love to see it continue.
What an amazing weekend and enjoyed…
What an amazing weekend and enjoyed myself so much! I pray this is an ongoing event as this is just what Aberdeen needs for experience and shared enjoyment. Helpful staff and amazing variety of creative and talented vendors. Spent the weekend getting pictures, autographs and spending lots of money on stalls etc. In my opinion it was worth it as my family and I had so much fun! Bring on next year! Well done Monopoly Events!
Aberdeen Comic-Con review
Excellent range of panellists and the larger hall definitely improved the congestion and accessibility issues of the year previous. Doubly so with the previous area now being a sitting/chilling out space.
It did feel like there was a real reduction of independent artists and suppliers however. Witnessed an overwhelming amount of funko pop vendors and "mystery bag" sellers which were just appealing to the Loot Box idea. From last year, we came home with a fairly good haul. This year, one of the scroll artworks from the couple at the end of the row behind the stage and a couple of lego figurines...
Aberdeen comic con was amazing
Aberdeen comic con was amazing, being being in the bigger arena was amazing. The over all experience was just great, vendors very friendly, staff very friendly. Loved the fact they used the tiered seating from the arena. There was a bit of disorganisation going into the panels.
The only thing I believe they need to improve on is the food. £11 burger that honestly is the best and not having much else to choose from, the food is overpriced. There needs to be more choice available.
Overall it's a great comic con and I look forward to it next year, thank you for making it amazing.
The con overall was decent
The con overall was decent but there's some very poor organisation. The queues for Karen and Bonnie were a riot with people skipping the queue and not being stopped and staff telling us we can't queue until 10 mins before their time but turning up 15 mins early to a huge queue already formed. Also having the wrestling ring right next to the q&a stage wasn't a good idea, the q&a area was too difficult to get a seat to because there was limited numbers so I ended up not bothering to watch any panels other than the cosplay comp on the Saturday. I missed the variety of traders that we had last year, this year a lot of them were selling the same things.
It was an amazing weekend
It was an amazing weekend, the enviroment was amazing comic con you put on an amazing event, it was my very first comic con and I would really recommend to others, I got to meet some amazing guest and got my photos taken with a couple of them too
Dreadful
Dreadful. Over-priced tat, z-list celebrities charging a fortune for autographs and selfies. Help desk girl "sorry I can't look up I'm multi-tasking", never heard something so un-help desk in my life. Somehow we managed to string out nearly an hour.
As for Ticketmaster, well bar code for two tickets only showed one, still not had souvenir ticket that was paid for, had to download their app to get access, shambles
A great event in a world class…
A great event in a world class facility. Comic Con Aberdeen brings guests from a broad spectrum of popular media. Many stall holders and props lots to see and a great event for the city. Putting the city on the map.
Over all great event but can over hype.
Over all great event but can over hype.
I love that Monopoly events gives Aberdeen the time of day. This is major deal for the city. However when you see the caliber of guests and attractions at their other events it feels like they hold certain areas back so not to over shadow some of their longer standing events.
The cost increase has stung (done by changing definition of children age) and will mean we can't all attend both days as a family of 4.
