Cold coffee, rude service and little choice
I visited this bakery in Musselburgh with two friends around lunchtime. There was no one ahead of us or behind us in the queue.
One of my friends ordered a latte and mentioned she was vegan, only to be told there were no vegan options available. However, we later noticed that one of the rolls on display was labelled as vegan, which made the response confusing.
For a bakery at lunchtime, the lack of choice was really surprising. The shelves behind the counter were bare, and the food available was very limited: a cookie, a couple of cheese scones, a couple of blondies, one vegan baguette, and a couple of other baguettes. There was no bread at all.
While my friend and I were looking at the very limited cake options, the woman behind the counter spoke to us in an abrupt and rude manner, asking, “you going to order?” It felt unnecessary and ill-mannered, especially as there was no queue, we weren’t taking an unreasonable amount of time, and there was very little choice to decide from.
I did go on to order a coffee and a cake. The coffee arrived fairly quickly. To be fair, the server who brought the coffee over was lovely, as was the person clearing tables. However, the café itself was quite cold, and the coffee wasn’t very warm or anything special. I also didn’t feel comfortable returning to the counter after the earlier interaction.
Considering they were open until 4pm and it was still early in the day, I found it quite disappointing that the bakery had so little available. Overall, due to the lack of food options and the incredibly rude service at the counter, it’s not somewhere my friends and I would return to or recommend.
