Thorough, Reliable, and Exceptional Craftsmanship – Highly Recommended

This will be a long review, but I encourage you to read through to the end—it covers the full experience of our building project. If you're after the short version: we’re absolutely delighted with the work Richard and his team James, Clive, Tony & Darrell at Copperwheat Conversions delivered. So much so, we've recommended him to neighbours who are equally thrilled with his work.

We set out to build a two-storey rear extension and contacted six local firms, some recommended through Facebook or seen working nearby. Of the three that turned up, one stayed for just 10 minutes, gave us a rough verbal quote and left. Another offered a reasonable quote (after we chased it) but didn’t inspire much confidence. Then Richard arrived.

Right from the start, he took the time to explain how the project would run—what steps were involved, how payments would be structured, and what to expect along the way. He asked detailed questions about our plans and offered layout suggestions that proved invaluable. He recommended an architect, structural engineer, and local suppliers—all excellent. Most impressively, he invited us to view both a current job site and a recently completed home renovation. The quality of craftsmanship was outstanding, and the previous client had nothing but praise. It gave us full confidence in moving ahead.

This was no small job. It included demolishing a conservatory, laying foundations for the extension, building out 5 metres, replacing the kitchen, installing underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, upgrading the boiler and hot water cylinder, rewiring the house, replacing the consumer unit, and fitting two new bathrooms/wet rooms. Richard coordinated his trusted network of electricians, plumbers, plasterers, and bricklayers seamlessly keeping things moving smoothly and efficiently.

As the build progressed and we began visualising the space, we made several design changes, which Richard and the team accommodated without hesitation. We were so impressed by his attention to detail, we asked him to refurbish the rest of the house—this included removing and replacing all ceilings, replastering, extensive tiling, and re-rendering the external walls with full insulation, which has greatly improved warmth and energy efficiency.

During the build, the team discovered a dangerously split structural roof beam. Richard’s team quickly identified a modern replacement and installed it safely with no delay. Their attitude was consistently proactive, calm, and reassuring.

We also appreciated how tidy and respectful the team was—cleaning up daily and maintaining great relationships with our neighbours. Richard communicated clearly about deliveries, noise, and timelines, which made the process much easier for everyone involved.

Finally, when internal works were completed, the team re-laid the garden with new paving and turf, and installed a stunning resin driveway that’s been admired by passersby.

We couldn't be happier with the result. The finish is exceptional, the service was top-notch, and we made lasting friendships with the entire team. If you're looking for a builder who delivers skill, reliability, and genuine care for your project, look no further than Copperwheat Conversations.
