Fish and chips, take a hammer and chisel - they don't provide.

I went to this pub twice recently, once with my Dad (88) 23th April 2026, and the LAST time with the family (Me, Dad, Sis, Bro-in-Law and Aunt on Saturday 25th April 2026.
On the 23th (Thursday), Dad and I had a gammon steak each and fried (instead of chips).
Dad's gammon was tough and I swapped it and gave him mine.
Dad told the lady (server) who picked up the plates, that the gammon was tough, she apologised and said she will tell the chef.
No more to be said about THAT visit.
I decided to take the family (five of us) on the Saturday (two days later).
I didn't want the gammon, just in-case it was tough, so I had the fish and chips. MY aunt also got this and when she cut into the batter, 7 chips flew off her plate - the batter that hard. Inside the batter, was a fish fillet at about quarter of an inch thick. I cut into mine, and thought I broke the plate when my knife eventually cut through the batter!!! In the end, I took the fish in both hands and SNAPPED it in two. Without a word of a lie!!!!!!
My fish fillet was less than half an inch thick!!!
My Bro in Law has a mixed grill and he left quite a lot, as the meats were tough and in-edible.
The boss (I think he was), came around later to see everything was Ok, I said that the batter is WELL OVER DONE and tough. I also said the mixed grill was also over done.
He said he will mention this to the chef (just like the lady two days previous).
We were going to have a desert, bit thought better of it.
Apparently, this place was taken over from Greene King to Edmunds Pub and Kitchen last September.
A big mistake.
I pass this place fairly regular, and can honestly say, there are hardly any cars in the car park, that can only mean one thing!!!
I will NOT be going back there, the food is terrible.
I was embarrassed and annoyed when I took the family there in good faith. Everyone commented that they will NOT visit there again. Such a shame, as they have a large car park, the place is situated in a lovely part of the Wirral.
I would like a personal response from the management of the Cottage Loaf.
There are MANY good places to eat on the Wirral, I thought I'd try this place (not been there for quite some time), and was totally disappointed by the quality of the food.
Two pubs closing every day by national news reports, I WOULD NOT be upset if this pub was next!!!!!!!!!!!
You have to get the food perfect otherwise you won't survive...
Dave.

Great home made food and ambiance

Great home made food and ambiance. Competitive pricing. I held my mother's wake there and from the minute I dropped by in passing when researching venues Courtney, Georgia and Helen were amazing! They gave me so much time, assisted in any way possible and were incredibly supportive and flexible. I got to choose my home made quiche fillings and sandwich fillers and everybody loved the home made chicken strips. The portions were also very generous. I cannot recommend them highly enough and thank them for making a very difficult time for me as easy as possible.
