Repairtech services (UK) Ltd
On the 25th July 2018 I paid £241.30 for an engineer to deliver and fit a cooker facia panel.
By the 21/08/2018 I had to chase them having heard nothing from their engineer. The engineer eventually arrived in early September five minutes before the end of the given time slot. I had to leave them to finish the install for a prior engagement. On my return, I found the cooker light constantly on and the switch inoperative. As this is an integral part of the facia it was down to the engineer.
On the 3rd of September, I reported the problem, and on the 7th of September I was told the engineer would contact me.
I then contacted the engineer directly and he also promised to get back with a date.
On the 18th of September, I contacted Repaitech yet again and was promised a date would be given.
By the 25th of September, I emailed again requesting a refund of the engineer's cost to allow me to get an electrician in to fix it.
I repeated the above email again on the 27th of September.
I telephoned Repairtech at the end of September where I was told my case had been escalated to Customer services, I then emailed the person in customer services with a copy of the latest email requesting a refund.
Mr. Graham responded on the 29th saying he would sort it out and would respond within one working day.
Two days later I had heard nothing, so I emailed saying I would call at their offices the following Monday the 8th to collect a refund.
Mr. Graham responded quickly promising and Engineer for the 10th October the day I gave as a deadline.
Its now Tuesday and no one’s called and confirmed a time, so I am assuming he was not telling the truth yet again.
I had already had the problem fixed by another person and what was found on fixing the problem shocked me.
The switch in question has two spade connectors with plastic jackets covering the wire end (live)
This plug had been poorly fitted the connection wasn’t securely on the switch prong but sandwiched between the plastic jacket and the plug. The plastic jacket had ridden up the connector exposing the bare connector allowing it to fall loose, obviously fitted in haste as they were running late.
The exposed lead had fallen across the other terminal of the switch making a permanent connection hence the light on continually.
The worrying thing is that this lead could have fallen against the framework of the cooker making the cooker live and lethal to anyone who touched it.
To me this is gross negligence and the company should be sued accordingly.
