Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the user experience, citing frequent UI changes and difficulty in toggling features. Customers also expressed strong negative opinions regarding the subscription models and pricing, noting unexpected price increases, removed features, and concerns about the company's business practices. The product itself was often described as unreliable, expensive, and prone to introducing errors, with some feeling it negatively impacted their work. Some people were dissatisfied with the artificial intelligence, finding its outputs inaccurate, repetitive, and sometimes even causing unintended data changes. Conversely, a small portion of people felt the product was incredible and had transformed their workflow, especially for code exploration and for those with limited scripting knowledge.

This app is completely useless

This app is completely useless in terms of functionality. It just writes code like a robot — the codes have no connection to each other, there’s no logic in the coding, they never run properly, they're always full of bugs, and it can’t even detect its own bugs. It just keeps going pointlessly and makes things worse.

The compaby is not capble

The compaby is not capble. Overselling a non working product, creating a sense of care while actually not responding to thier own initiatives of feedback... such a shame.

Greedy, not progressive

Greedy, stingy, opaque act like adobe. Left these guys and went to the other one. They play games with cutting down context windows, so when you are prompting they are profiting when they make the token length shorter- it scams you out of writing good code. this was the bomb in Oct2024, but they took money and it got worse. Happy for them that they are going to go to zero- they could have been awesome, they picked up supermaven in fall/sept 2024 but they have not innovated nor debugged the product.

Not great

Funny to play with. Not ready to build anything serious.

Insane amount of linter bug as the code get more complex.

I pay for it for 2 months now

I pay for it for 2 months now, when i get a little big project (1500 lines +) it start doing some dumb shit!
writing double functions, just create not needed files.
I give up and go back to other solutions!
YALL SUCK - RESIGN!!!!

Even after another 3 weeks with it (from my initial review - i came back to edit it), still sucks.
They charged me on Premium Tool Calling - no explanations there.
I already paid $40 for 2 months now and it only get worst and worst. NOT FUN AT ALL!

Really really bad service!!

Ultra-low quality and slow models. The models are practically useless for implementation; they are only good for copying code and minor refactoring. The pricing is way too high for the service provided. Don’t let this company waste your money—go for faster and equally effective alternatives.

I’ve spent the last hours trying to get…

I’ve spent the last hours trying to get Cursor’s AI functionality working with my OpenAI API key — and it’s been needlessly frustrating. Despite having the key, billing set up, and verification passing, I kept running into “Pro only” blocks for basic features like asking questions about my code or retrieving a file.

What’s worse:

No clear warnings before connecting the API key that Agent and Edit require a Pro plan, even if you have your own API access.

The UI gives generic error messages with no helpful guidance.

Even basic actions like “Show me globals.css” are locked behind the paywall.

In short:
It feels like I was invited to use my own API key, only to hit a wall unless I upgrade anyway — which defeats the point.

It’s a shame because when it works, Cursor is powerful and slick. But right now, it feels like a bait-and-switch for developers who thought using their own OpenAI key would give them full functionality.

A shame

Started using Cursor 6 months ago and was really surprised by it! Worked well and decided to buy the pro subscription, even if there wasn't much difference from the basic one i felt like they were deserving it!
Now i have to take it back... It became one of the worst places to code.
They prioritize fancy agentic workflows over real developers needs, completely missing their target business and focusing on non professionals, exploiting their ignorance.
They nerf perfectly good model in a buggy vscode wrapper, and ask for extra money to use the non-nerfed ones.
That is just sad guys, I really hope to see you shine again!

It has potential, but creates more errors than it fixes

Having project wide context is great for analyzing scenarios, and being able to ask about how different things are setup or could be improved.

However when it's writing code, it often forgets context, changes things it shouldn't or get's things wrong.

I know this tool is limited to which models it is using, so in fairness, this is perhaps more a review of the models. However, since these are a part of the Cursor product, then the quality of these will afffect the Cursor product also.

I hope these things are corrected, perhaps they could be already, with the right configuration, but hopefully it will improve as the models do.

Doesn't uninstall properly and then…

Doesn't uninstall properly and then still opens in lieu of VSCode - when clicking VSCode links.
Also it's a fork of VSCode, which is a bad idea and translates into a bad product. i.e. forking a commercial product... Not a good idea. See chromium-based browsers.

Cursor used to be amazing..

Cursor used to be amazing... now it's trash.
Honestly cursor was the best software I have ever used... then it started struggling... had 'high load' errors... would change things it shouldn't be... but now: It simply does not work. It will just sit and say "Generating".... nothing will happen.
I've emailed cursor many times, no solutions. Check cursor's own online forum... you'll find ENDLESS complaints about how it's now useless.... very sad, but find a different company.

The best IDE on the market

Arguably, it is the best IDE on the market right now. All features are excellent, and the product is compatible with VSCode extensions, making it very easy to migrate (in just a few clicks)

Irresponsible customer support

i bought pro subscription, After few days I changed my laptop . Before that cursor was running smoothly. Then cursor is not working .Chat, auto complete etc nothing is working.I still have 18 days subscription date.I did 71 request where I have access for 500. I have emailed the Cursor team more than 10 times, but they are not resolving the issue. They mentioned that I need to wait, but it seems they will only solve the problem after my subscription expires. The cursor ai working smootthly, but the team is to lazy and irresponsible.Even I did all of the step that they said, also posted on cursor forum , did everything , but they don't care the customer after buying the subscription. I paid for solving problem , not for wasting time and money.

Cursor ignored my cancellation and continues to charge me

I used Cursor for 5 months and was farily satisfied with the service. Then I decided to switch to Aider so I cancelled my Pro subscription on their site. A few days later I saw a failed attempt to withdraw 20 dollars as monthly subscription fee. I went to their site and to my surprize I was still a pro subscriber! I tried to cancel again, but this time there was no option to cancel the subscription, just an option to *delete* the account, I tried that and got an error message telling me that I cannot delete my account before paying the 20 dollars "I owed them!".

I decided to contact their support to sort that out, and found they do not have any chat or ticketing system and you are supposed to send them an email message. They do have a "forum" but only for "technical" discussions. I found posts in the forum from peolpe with billing issues who said they have tried sending them an email and have not heard back.

No company with good standing treats their customers this way. And the fact that they have not yet claimed their profile here on Trust Pilot to respond to reviews is another sign how bad their customer service is.
