For ease of delivery and handling, all panels in your kit are supplied in strips of 1500mm or shorter. If your wall dimensions exceed 1500mm in either direction, we'll split the strips into equal-length pieces that join together neatly at the midpoint — so you still receive exactly the right amount of MDF for your wall.

Don't worry about the joins being visible. Simply butt the pieces together, apply a little decorator's filler or caulk over the join, sand lightly once dry, and paint with the rest of your panelling as normal. Once decorated, the joins will be virtually invisible — even up close. This is the same technique used by professional joiners and decorators, and it works beautifully with MDF.

Below is also a step-by-step guide to assist you to install your new and outstanding wall panelling.

How to Install Wood PanellingThe technical view of our visualiser (at the top of this page) will show you which measurements you need between each batten based on your input. Make sure to note down these measurements when ordering the kit so that you know how far apart you should be marking the measurements when it comes to installing it. Our Wall Panelling Kit includes a physical Installation Manual which provides more detail and recommendations on which order to install the panels in. Prepare the WallEnsure your wall is smooth, clean and dry. Using the measurements from your order, mark out the panel layout with a pencil and spirit level. Fix the Bottom Rail (A)Apply a snaking line of adhesive to the back of the bottom horizontal strips and fix them level along the base of the panelling area. This is usually above a skirting board. Install Vertical Strips (B)Fix the vertical strips in position, ensuring they sit flush on top of the bottom rail and are level. Add Divider Strips (C) – If IncludedIf your design includes multiple rows, fix the horizontal divider strips between the verticals. Install the Top Rail (A)Fix the top horizontal strip across the verticals, ensuring it is level and aligned with the bottom rail. Picture Shelf – If OrderedIf your kit includes a picture shelf, support blocks are first attached to the top rail before the rail is fixed to the wall. The shelf is then glued onto the support blocks. Fill, Caulk and FinishOnce the adhesive has fully cured, fill joints and gaps, lightly sand, then caulk edges before priming and painting. If a wall is not perfectly straight, the strips or mouldings may be forced to follow the wall’s profile. Using adhesive alone in these situations can cause the material to bow, lift, or appear to warp. Any visible movement or gaps are most commonly caused by uneven walls, rather than an issue with the product itself. Where walls are uneven, additional fixings are required to hold panels flat. Choosing the Correct Fixings  If additional fixing is required due to wall unevenness, the correct method will depend on the wall type: Brick or masonry wallsUse wall plugs and screws to pull panels or dado rails flat against the wall. Screw heads can be filled and painted over once installed. Stud or plasterboard wallsUse panel pins or brads to secure panels while the adhesive sets. Pins can be easily filled and painted over once cured. Always select fixings appropriate for your wall construction to ensure a secure, long-lasting finish. What comes in the Wall Panelling Kit?

Our wall panelling kits contain made-to-measure MDF Battens to create the shaker effect on your walls as well as a short instructional leaflet for installing them. We can supply the additional materials you will need for installation like adhesive, dust sheets, primer and filler. These can be added to your cart in the kit configuration tool on the Wall Panelling page, or found on the accessories page. Backing boards for unfinished walls are not included.

How do you put up Wall Panelling?

Wall panelling can easily be installed using adhesive, or screws. We would also recommend making sure you use a spirit level when installing to make sure that the pieces are flat. In addition, we have an installation guide for our MDF Wall Panelling.

Does your MDF come primed?

Our Moisture Resistant MDF comes unprimed, but you can select for us to prime the wood for you. This will save you the time and effort of doing it yourself, so once your panelling arrives, it’s ready to paint!

Can I paint on MDF?

What is the best colour to paint Wall Panelling?

You can paint your picture shelves in the same way as you paint your wall panelling. You can use any type of paint that is suitable for MDF, such as acrylic, emulsion or gloss. If you select for your wall panelling kit to be primed before delivery, then we will prime your picture shelf too.

How much weight can Picture Shelves hold?

The weight a picture shelf can hold will depend on its length and depth. You should avoid placing heavy or fragile items on your picture shelves, as they may fall or damage your wall panelling.
