These are super sturdy and very nicely finished. Given that they are former railway sleepers, I thought they might have a rough finish, but these are beautifully smooth and oiled. We used them to display several heavy sculptures. They look great.

We sell our lip-down shelving in both pinewood and veneered MDF, it looks as though you have got yourself an oak veneered MDF shelf which is why it's so smooth and lacquered!
