Cyclowax is completely ignoring

I have been trying to cancel a pre-order, but Cyclowax has completely ignored my emails. I’ve sent multiple messages over an extended period and have not received any response. The lack of communication and customer support is very concerning. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others before ordering.

Pre ordered the new waxing kit

Pre ordered the new waxing kit, a week or so later there’s a few month delay. Offered a discount code only to discover I can get anything with it as everything is gone. The help is so slow to respond and now I’m left without a waxing kit for the majority of the main riding season. First time trying to use cyclowax and likely my last.

Nicely presented but......

I am very experienced at waxing chains (5 years) and believe it's the only way to go. Game-changing. I currently use a slow cooker and GLF wax which works brilliantly on all my bikes and groupsets.
I bought the Cyclowax system for convenience and to reduce mess. It does melt the wax very quickly whatever wax I use in the pot. It is beautifully presented.
Does it wax the chain yes, is it better than a slow cooker (debatable). The chain hanger system is very good.
There is one big issue though. The wax melter is not big enough. I use full length chains (SRAM and Shimano) as I have a ceramic speed rear mech hanger. Unless I use a lot of wax (3-4 pucks) I cannot completely cover the chain. It is not possible to wax more than one chain at a time even if I use wax up to the brim. The slow cooker is much better in this respect as I often wax batches of chains (3/4 at a time). Is there less mess? No, as you have to wiggle the chain to get it into the wax even with a normal length chain and some gets spilled.

My experience with waxed chains are…

My experience with waxed chains are positive, and because it thought a professional waxed chain by cyclowax, I want to experience the difference of my own waxed chain and cyclowax. So I bought an shimano 11 speed waxed chain. By opening the package, the first think, is it an real shimano 11s chain, I have my doubts. So checking the chain, it is waxed, but thin ? Maybe this is because of professional waxing. Tried the chain yesterday, for a ride of 130 kilometers, and after 50 kilometers it feels like I was riding on a coffee bean grinder 😮‍💨, and when I was home, I see small metals flinks in the chain 🤨, double check, maybe grease? Verry unpleasant, so not a good experience for me. I go back to my original Shimano waxed chain, done by myself. A big fail for a €79,00 waxed chain.

The best product for clean chain!!

I got cyclowax starter kit as a present and all I can say that this was one of the best surprises I got recently. I went to bike shop, take down derailer, chain ring (separated them also big from smaller one), rear cassette and cleaned it almost to perfection (little on ocd side I know). After assembling all the parts I went for a ride to make sure this is what they sell, dirt free chain. And it's true!!! I did 275km in couple short rides, and if there is something on chain to be seen just use my finger and dirt goes away. Hands are 99% clean and there is no more chain stains or anything similar. On next ride I will use waxing for the first time so will edit this review later bit, but for now...1000% I recomended cyclowax product its just...dirt free :)

Edit 08.03.2025
I waxed my chain for the second time after 500km (1000k in so far) and it works perfect no chain stains etc. Two things I would add and that is to change your waxing interval to 300km because after that chain is still clean but it sounds like there is no wax and its louder, so 250-300k perfect interval.
Second after you wax it as soon as chain is ok to touch by hand after re-waxing (5' cca) put it on a bike, because after 20' or more is quite hard to break all chain links from hardened wax...trust me...and to finish, be prepared in winter months when bike is on smart trainer to have excess wax for a few rides on the floor after waxing. Nothing big of a deal clean with dry cloth or towel paper...just good to know. All in all the best thing I could have for my bike...waxed chain

Great product but beware

Great product but beware! Having paid shipping I then got another bill from fedex for over £50, for vat and disbursement fees, this blasts the price way over what it’s worth, having known this I would not have bought it and gone for different product, simply not worth it, i certainly won’t be ordering any replacement wax it’s a rip off

Hi Chris, yes that is a frustrating experience. Since you are based outside of the EU, you see all prices ex vat. When checking out, you could have opted to pay these up front. If not, customs then charges you the vat + handling fees after the purchase. The option is there in our webshop, but anyway, it's not ideal. We are in the process of setting up a local UK vat-number and that should solve this.

Sorry to hear about that experience. Hope you enjoy the wax!

Kind regards,

Jakob

Product did never arrive

I don't know if the product works, it did never arrive, and I ordered a month ago. My parcel got stuck at FedEx, but neither FedEx nor the customer service from Cyclowax was able to get it delivered. I asked for a new delivery or a refund, but did not receive an Answer. I even used two different email adresses from different providers to ensure communication does not get lost in Spam filters. Very unprofessional for such an expensive high-end product.

Re-waxing cycle much shorter?

I bought one of those very nice arranged starter kits with a pre-waxed chain and mounted this on a brand new mountainbike that I thoroughly cleaned before. Since then I rode 158 km exclusively in dry and dusty conditions. However the chain started to make some noise after about 100 km. I asked cyclowax whether this is normal, but didn't get an answer for meanwhile three weeks. Officially they claim it would last for 300 - 500 km. I understood that a pre-waxed chain represents the best possible condition, because it never saw oil that needed to be removed in a sophisticated process. So if a chain in such kind of optimum conditions lasts less than a third of the time promissed, it is a froud.

Hi Johannes,

Thanks for your review.
And sorry to hear you’re having some troubles with the wax.

We did however send you an email reply, maybe it’s in your spam folder?

There a lot of reason why the chain sounds dry after x km’s therefore we also asked for more information to understand the situation.

If you can reply to the email or send us a new email with the riding conditions and pictures of the drivetrain and a video of the sound you’re hearing we’ll help you out.

On average, we reply within 2 hours during business hours, so if you don’t get an email after 3 weeks, it’s better to send us another email.

Cheers,

David

Great experience!

The information on the website is very clear and understandable, even if you don't know anything about bike maintenance.
When I received the starter kit, I was instantly curious about what was inside. The instructions were, just like the website, very clear and understandable. When you read the instructions, you know immediatly what to do and not to do.
Waxing your chain looks like something very difficult, but with this kit it's child's play.

Great product!

Melting pot works great.
Connex chain is ok.
Unfortunately the drivetrain stays not as clean as I expected (but far better than with oil).

Great Product BUT BEWARE!!!!

Great Product BUT BEWARE!!!!
and extra £41.16 Customs and Taxes.
I feel as most EU countries advertise to customers INCL Taxes - they are taking advantage of European orders and near 5-6 weeks later receive a bill from FED EX!>>

and STILL they messed up sending the wrong instructional booklet.

+ they say up to 800km of riding without cleaning - but then when the kit arrives suggest re-waxing every 300km - that's like every 2 weeks!!!!

lot of hassle.

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for your review.
Let me clarify.

For our UK website we have all prices ex. vat and subject to import and duty fees. This is mentioned on 3 different places.

1. In the shipping policy
2. Below the add to cart button
3. In the checkout you can choose to pay the vat & duties directly or pay this later. This is a choice you can make yourself.

Everywhere on the website we say 300-500km, except for one place where we say up to 800km in good weather.

Sorry to hear you have received the wrong booklet, luckily we also send 2 emails with every step you need to take.

6 weeks after receiving the goods

6 weeks after receiving the goods, an invoice for 40 CHF came from the sender through customs clearance. The goods were actually supposed to be cleared by the provider, but after writing to the manufacturer several times there was no response. I advise you not to order anything here as there are hidden costs

Hi Florian

Thanks for your review.

However, we looked through all our systems and couldn’t find any emails or messages from you.

We’ve also reached out to you to see where the emails have gone, but haven’t received anything back from you.

On the website, we do mention that the prices are ex. vat and subject to import and duty fees if you order from Switzerland. This can be seen throughout the ordering process and in the shipping policy.

We’re sorry you have had an unexpected experience, but we provide all information and reply to all emails and messages that we receive. In most cases, this is in less than 2 hours.

Good product bundle

Quick delivery, good quality product. All box containment fulfills expectation.
Navigation on online shop somehow complicated, it took a while to understand what I will get with the bundle.

Great reputable company

I got the starter kit and ordered the wrong chain initially. My fault. I emailed the company and they replied very quickly to change to the correct chain. When the product arrived it looked like I got a different model than selected (I wanted a Dura ace). They quickly fixed the mistake and sent a new chain right away. The customer service is top notch and the product is great! I would highly recommend. The best part is the waxing app that tracks my two bikes - one indoor and one outdoor. I’m able to select a longer chain wax period for the indoor and shorter for the outdoor.
