Have been buying Daniel Field for decades and am glad to see that the latest formula is the best it’s ever been for colouring and hair condition afterwards; super shine and looks so healthy, grey coverage with the darkest brown shade is excellent and colour does not come off, only when roots grow do you need to redo that part! I follow all the instructions for best results! DANIEL FIELD Please Keep this formula and don’t change it! Works so well with my favourite shampoo and conditioner (with a half teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in it) ! Truly EXCELLENT!

Daniel Field salon is a gem

Daniel Field salon is a gem. The hair colours are totally pure and the smoothing treatment is next level. I had coarse frizzy hair … not now. The staff are the kindest I have ever met in a salon. Highly recommend if you want to look after your hair

It works on grey hair and lasts.

This hair dye is 2 little phials of powder gloves and mixing bottle, you just add water to the line and shake then it's a nice consistency to apply to your hair. I have darkish grey roots and other shades plus blonde at the ends and I cannot put anything with peroxide or anything in as it would render me bald! I'm 65 and my hair isn't that strong. This doesn't hurt your hair in any way so that's great for me. I use shade 9 a natural blonde which is so much better than grey I do put redken leave in conditioner on it as its not to shiney any more. I would recommend this most definitely... I used to use L'Oreal age perfect touch of gold semi permanent hair colour that also gad nothing like peroxide or anything damaging in and it was great but they discontinued it (of course) so I had to search for a year till I found this. I really don't know what I would do without it now as there really isn't anything that works like this and belive me I tried all the so called brands of blondes semis without peroxide and none worked at all on grey. This is an honest review by the way if it all sounds too good to be true, it is really, :-) also they email you and ask you how it went when purchased oh and it all comes in a lovely little box!

Excellent customer service

Excellent customer service, exceptional even. Great minimal packaging, dye was easy to use. The colour was a darker than expected, however, I emailed the team, they came straight back to say they will send a 'colour adjuster ' which will remove some of the colour. I'll definitely try again, going a couple of shades lighter, but the product was great and the service could not be improved.

The best hair dye I’ve ever used

Absolutely love this product I can’t use salon or at home dyes it burns my
Skin and my whole face swells up
I tried henna and that was even worse
Since finding this a few years back my hair is in so much better condition and has re growth from the severe burns I suffered it might not last as long but I’d rather apply more often then burn my skin
A lady called Charlotte in customer service is amazing she helps immediately with any questions problems you have and gives you immediate solutions
Couldn’t recommend this company enough

This has changed in more ways than one

I do wish these two companies would sort out their spats and diverge completely in their brand labelling so that it would be possible to be sure which is which. I have bought Daniel Field Watercolour from danielfielddirect for several years now, and it was always excellent. Courteous and a good delivery service. And no harmful products and no bad reaction. From my perspective, I didn’t want such total coverage of the grey that I looked like Silvio Berlasconi…..so this hair dye was brilliant, because it gave some coverage and therefore some variation in colour overall, which looks more natural. However, since the partial rebranding as Gentle Hair Dye, the batch I bought most recently (earlier this year or late last year) was very red in tinge. Like Henna. It was the colour I have most often used, a Natural Warm Brown, but it looked like red henna where there were grey hairs. And you have introduced henna into a new range. Have you snuck it into the Watercolour range as well? This is not for me, it’s the archetypal old-woman-who-dyes-her-hair look, and I will be trying the OTHER Daniel Field Natural Warm Brown to see if there is a better result with what I assume is the original colour!

Hi, thank you for your feedback, and we are very sorry to hear you were not happy with your recent colour. Just to reassure you that we have not changed the formula of the single vial Water Colour and it doesn't contain any henna. Sometimes a shade that has worked well for a long time can need adjusting as our hair changes over the years. In particular reds will often become more prominent. Please don't hesitate to give us a call on 0345 230 2124 or 01548 830560 and we will be happy to recommend a different shade with less warm tones and send you one to try free of charge.

Easy to use with great results

Very natural, easy to use hair dye which also fades out very naturally.
Better results and far cheaper that organic hair dye at a salon.
Also excellent and respectful customer service when I recently had an issue with their premium delivery service

Do not use Daniel Field colour - No stars

Don’t use Daniel Field. I agree with with the reviewers who have had bad experiences with Daniel Field hair dye - I used Natural darkest brown watercolour and also had similar experiences.
I had the worst reaction to the product. Face swelling unable to breathe and lost loads of hair whilst washing the colour out and then the next day when combing. My hair has never been the same it was so dry after using the colour and still is very very dry. My hair was always soft. It is like straw and always matted.
There certainly is a harmful chemical possibly the one used in Tresemme as in any natural product there will always be some chemicals. I never had any reaction from a high street product that was not natural as I had with the DF colour- at least with the high street ones I never lost my hair and my hair after was in a good state. I never put any heat on my hair, straighten etc and don’t constantly dye.
I contacted them - both Daniel Field and his brother were adamant it was not their product- it happened whilst using a Daniel Field colour at that time. Do your research and look at the ingredients and do not use. The one I applied that caused damage wouldn’t even take and didn’t last on my hair that long. I wish I had taken this further as the people did who used Tresemme and had bad reactions. I have kept hold of the hair that fell out - it is heartbreaking and I am sure scientists would be able to prove the cause was the colour. Do not use any of DF products.
To note -this was more than just a reaction and this was going back a few years when I used your watercolour and I did a test and before you send another generic reply - note in rare cases, a person may have a negative allergy test and still be allergic to a chemical/substance. Your reply then was “ Daniel's Water Colour contains no lightening agents such as ammonia or peroxide and it contains no alcohol - therefore there is nothing to damage your hair. ”
There is a chemical that is in DF colours from a few years back and probably recent ones as per the reviews show - that made me lose a lot of my hair and caused damage to it up until this day.
I do not want a refund - I want you to acknowledge that your product is damaging as you didn’t when I contacted you. I had beautiful long, soft hair and it has never been the same since, the loss that day was unbelievable and I wanted a forum like this to let others know as I have been reaching out to a-lot of people to no avail.

Hi GK, sorry to hear you had a reaction, and I hope you are recovered now. Any hair dye - even a totally natural product like henna - can cause a reaction, and this is why we say customers should always take a patch test at least 48 hours before every application. I'm sending you a request for your order number or e-mail in a private message so that I can find your order and sort a refund for you. Best wishes, Dan

Decided to use super dark Brown ebony shade 2. I had previous reaction. I thought I’d try as it says no PPD and no ammonia did patch test. Have had a severe reaction of oozing and face has hives and currently in A&E.

We are really sorry if you have had a reaction to Ebony Shade 2 Water Colour. It has always been our policy to give a full refund if anyone is allergic to any of our products or is unhappy for any reason, and this has been done. There is no PPD or ammonia in Water Colour so it's possible you are allergic to something else in the product, but it is unusual for the allergy patch test not to show up any sensitisers. We are sad to hear you are unwell and wish you a speedy recovery.

Within 6 months of using this product my hair's condition has dramatically improved. My hairdresser has also commented. As an aside since not using PDFs i have noticed new hair growth that I hadn't realised i had lost. I noticed my hair had got thin over a period of time but never related this to my original hair dye. Since using Daniel Field my hair is dramatcally improving. Give it a try..
