Waste of money- doesn't stay in joints

Spent a lot of money buying this useless product as we have large driveway. Followed instruction by mixing each bag thoroughly before brushing in and then fully compacted. The product hasn't hardened and us washing out leaving empty joints. Do not waste your money and effort on this product

Disappointing product!…

Dansand does not harden as described on the packaging. Sweeping loads up everytime we sweep the patio. Will have to re-grout next time I pressure wash the patio I suspect. Really disappointed, though it does seem tk have stopped the weeds for now! Won't be buying this product again and can't recommend it.

Hello Ralph,

We are sorry to learn that your joints have not hardened as they should. To get hard and solid joints using DANSAND TOP LOCK/Polymeric, it is important to follow the instructions on the bag carefully. Maybe one of the below scenarios happened in your case?

DANSAND TOP LOCK®/Polymeric is water permeable and only works if water can drain from the joint quickly. If your substrate is concrete, recycled concrete or wood, it will retain moisture for longer, and Dansand Top Lock® will not be able to harden sufficiently to create a solid joint.

The content of the bag should be mixed before sweeping the material into the joints otherwise the binders will not be mixed with the silica sand. Maybe some of your joints have hardened and some of them have not? If so, the binders have probably not been mixed with the silica sand.

Also, the weather and substarate should be dry for the joints to harden completely. The joints do not withstand rain whitin the first 24 hours after pointing. Maybe this is the case?

If used correctly, DANSAND TOPLOCK /Polymeric does create solid joints. We are happy to help you identify the exact reason why your's did not harden. To help you in the best way, we kindly ask you to complete this form https://dansand.dk/products/service/complaints/?lang=en

Used it to repoint a patio

Used it to repoint a patio. No weeds after 3 months, but absolutely no hardening either. Ants are free to come and go through the gaps they have created. E-mailed them, but they just referred me to the UK stockist, who have not replied. I will not buy this product again! Beware!

Hello Tony,

unfortunately our UK distributor was on holiday when you emailed, but we believed that you have heard from them by now.

To use our product DANSAND TOP LOCK® polymeric/ Firm Fix block paving fix at this time of the year (January) is very risky, the weather is often rainy, and the temperature is often also too low ( Recommended temp 10 to 30 degrees as shown on the bag), so the risk for that the joints are not setting properly is very high, due to the hardening conditions are not optimal at this time of the year. Maybe this is the case?

Often where it is a bound surface, Dansand Top Lock® is water permeable and only works if water can drain from the joint quickly. If your substrate is concrete, recycled concrete or wood, it will retain moisture for longer, and Dansand Top Lock® will not be able to harden sufficiently to create a solid joint. Maybe this is the case?

I have to agree with other reviews

I have to agree with other reviews, it doesn’t stop weeds. I applied in 2021 and the weeds just keep coming.

Dear Paul,
we are sorry to learn that you had a bad experience using DANSAND® NO GROW™. As we understand, you applied NO GROW in 2021. However, you do not specify which exact NO GROW product you were using. In the below answer, we will be assuming that you have used DANSAND® NO GROW™ Joint Filling Sand.

DANSAND® NO GROW™ Joint Filling Sand has been developed to prevent weeds, but it is not a weed killer. The product consists of washed and oven-dried silica sand, to which we have added a natural mineral. The mineral increases the pH-value and the ZAR value of the silica sand, creating an “unfriendly” environment that does not provide nourishment for weed plants. Hence, a weed seed that finds its way to your joint and tries to set roots here, will dry out after a short time.

We recommend a joint height of min. 4 cm when filling your joints to ensure that the roots of the seed do not have enough time to find nourishment, as it will dry out before then.

It is therefore important that you filled your joints in a height of 4 cm when you first applied DANSAND® NO GROW™ in 2021. Likewise, it is important that you have are maintaining your joints on a regular basis, making sure that they are always completely filled.

If you are interested in receiving our help to analyze further, we would ask you to go to our website www.dansand.dk and fill in our complaint form, which you will find here: https://dansand.dk/products/service/complaints/?lang=en

Dansand ruined my drive

Was using Tarmac but when I went for further 2 bags only dansand was available. After use tried to remove as much surplus as possible, the next few days it had started hardening and where I had used it the red and blue tiles were stained whiteish. Tried to remove it with Brick cleaning acid but it is proving difficult. Ruined the appearance of my drive!

No Grow Sand does not stop plant growth

Doesn’t stop plant growth! Dansand No Grow Block Paving Sand, the bag says prevents weeds, but grass grows easily and there was a couple of weeds. I bought this as I don’t want to have to do as much patio maintenance, i still had to bend over and pull grass out.

SAVE your money as it does not work.

I followed the instructions every step and after 1 month the sand has not hardened at all. I made sure that the weather was going to be dry and this was done when we had weeks of sun. I left it a week and it was still loose sand in the gaps so I decided to do it again only to find still not hardened. I contacted Dansand and they said that I probably did not follow the instructions and that they have not had any other complaints and weeds do grow though this product. The product is expensive and using kiln dried sand would of been cheaper and better. Sorry Dansand I will not be buying this again.

Waste of Time and Money

I purchased another product for my driveway, and it set fine as hard as concrete, but the odd small weed came through.
Therefore, I decided to go for Dansand for my patio and it was a total waste of time and money. It has not set and already bugs are dislodging it (6 days later).
It is frustrating as the weeds on my driveway can easily be controlled by a quick spray of weed killer.
Summary do not buy Dansand

Hello Lee,

our products have been carefully tested and if applied correctly, they prevent weed seeds in becoming embedded.

Please note that not all our products are developed to set a hard joint and to prevent insects. Therefore, could you confirm which DANSAND® product you purchased, please?

If you went for a DANSAND® product which is meant to create a fixed joint, if the material was dry when you opened the bag and if you followed the instructions on the bag carefully you you should not experience the issue that you describe.

We would be happy to assist you in solving the problem, but we need more specific information, please. You are welcome to contact us directly on info@dansand.dk for further assistance.

Does not actually stop weed re-growth

Does not actually stop weed re-growth. Dabs and actually told me that weeds will not grow through it. What it actually does is let it grow around it. It must let it grow through the smallest of gaps between the blocks and the Dansand. So weeds still prosper. I finished off my paving will the old cheap sand, loads of weeds in the two weeks after the Dansand, six weeks after the cheap sand, no weeds!! Don’t waste your money!!

Rubbish product and customer service

Have power washed my driveway due to dirt and weeds, I wanted something to fill the gaps and keeps the weeds away. I saw this no weed product which was more costly than the normal sand for a smaller bag. But due to the No Weed promise on the bag I thought I would give it a try. It went down ok and looked good, but then it rained which washed some of it out and now two weeks later there seem to be more weeds growing than before. I think there is weed food in the sand rather than weed killer or minerals. I have since emailed the company to ask if I have done something wrong but low and behold no reply whatsoever. Do not waste your money on these products just buy the normal sand or get rock salt as this will kill the weeds for longer and don't try to contact the company as they will not reply.

Pointless - DO NOT BUY IT.

I refurbished my drive and Patio and bought Dansand No Weed Block paving sand as a replacement to ordinary dry kiln sand. It does not go far and I had to use twice as much as normal dry kiln sand and its twice as expensive. I ended up spending £100 instead of £25. But if it was the end of the weeds well it would be worth it. The sand did not stay in the joints. When it rains it just washes out. I end up with loose sand all over that I have to brush away after every rainfall. Where my drive slopes to the road the sand just washes out and over the pavement. To add insult to injury there are weeds popping up everywhere. Much worse than normal. Even in areas where the sand has pooled. This product is useless. DO NOT BUY IT !. I emailed the company and complained and all I got is a sorry - why don't you buy some of our more expensive sand. I emailed again and all they did was ignore me - great customer care. The company appears not to care - I would not buy any of their products ever again
