Misleading Promises & Lost Data

Misleading Promises & Lost Data, (Irreplaceable Data) Lost from this company. Sent two drives to DataTech Labs. One to be recovered 3 TB (had about 1.3 TB of information to be recovered) and one to place the Recovered Data onto (2TB). The Customer Service communication was great until it came time to actually pay for and then recover the drive. They kept trying to change the price. Then the technician ended up partially recovering the drive onto the other drive but didn't inform us that he may need more space for the software to properly recover, since the Copy To Drive was only 2TB instead of 3 or 4 TB. Instead of providing another drive or giving us the option to send a different drive the tech copied over only a fourth of the files that were recoverable and didn't even try to get the files requested on the list. This was after they stated they could see all the files I wanted recovered, which were in alphabetical order and I gave them a physical list when requesting the service of those truly needed. Why they didn't provide a Recovery Drive that had enough TBs to recover the entire 3TB Drive that only had 1.3TB of Data on it, I'll never know. I'm not sure where the mix-up came but it was a doozy, and the shipping company actually lost the returned drives for an entire week. When I got the chance to review what was recovered, it was just a fraction of what they had shown me could be recovered. I really can't recommend this company, that took a high price to deliver nothing that was promised! I even asked for and talked directly to the Technician who was supposed to perform the Data Recovery. He seemed unconcerned and too busy to pass on any detailed vital information that reflected, he even understood what folders we were needing to complete our taxes. Their technical staff seems to be rip-off agents who can't deliver what was agreed to by their Customer Service Representative. The final result left a bad taste in my mouth and since it occurred during the Pandemic, no refund was offered, either.

Thank you for the feedback, although your account of what took place isn’t exactly accurate.

The only time the priced changed is when your case manager tried to help. The partial recovery results were a direct result of a previous party opening these drives up outside of a clean room facility; in turn causing contamination on the inside of the drives. And lastly, no we did not offer a refund, but we gave you the option not to approve the recovery results as well.

We received two drives that had been worked on by a previous party and your case manager waived our initial evaluation fee for opened drives in an effort to help. Our initial evaluation found both drives suffered severe physical/mechanical failures in addition to being highly contaminated as a result of the previous party not opening the drives in a clean room. While reviewing the evaluation results your case manager did explain the contamination within both drives is bound to damage files.

After you and your case manager reviewed the evaluation results and estimates together you requested a package discount for both drives in order to fit your budget. Again, in an effort to help your case manager worked out a discounted package deal for both drives to fit your budget. Sadly, you decided to only move forward on a single drive, but you still wanted it at a discounted rate.

Once the recovery case was completed your case manager reviewed the data with you in detail during an online meeting so you could properly approve or decline our recovery results. You informed the case manager that you did want the data that was recovered, but since it was a partial recovery, you did not want the data for the previously agreed upon (and already once discounted) price. Despite your case manager previously communicating the expectations for a partial recovery, again, in an effort to help your case manager got another discount on the recovery for you.

All-in-all we’re glad we were able to help recover data for you and wish we could’ve found a way to provide a five star experience.

Professional Service.

The service they provided was timely and successful in recovery of our data Their process is well organized and customer friendly. their is nothing to complain about in their business practice or results but it is very expensive.

We paid $12,000 for literally nothing

We paid $12,000 for literally nothing. The files we received weren't useful and were corrupt. When following up to see if theres any additional things they could do we were told they would do some additional work and even after repeated attempts to follow up, no one has done anything. Not happy about this at all.

DataTech recovered an external drive I…

DataTech recovered an external drive I dropped while it was running. So GREATFUL it had all my photos of my kids over the past 10 years. I know I should have backed up my backup!! The technician was helpful and the recovery was quick.

Tammy is awesome and I have all my data back!

My external hard drive randomly quit on me. The local tech people couldn’t fix it. The hard drive had the only copies of my family’s historical photos. I was devastated. My husband found DataTech Labs for me. I spoke with Tam (Tammy-from Colorado) the first night. She calmed me down and assured me that there was likely a way to resolve this tragedy. Tam continued to contact me through the process to check on me and update me as needed. She was such a delight.

The $1000 price tag on the retrieval of the data seems exorbitant but I was over a barrel with no other way to resolve it so we paid it. Because of the price I wouldn’t recommend Data Tech first but once all other resources were exhausted I would absolutely recommend them.

The team in Boston that I dealt with were professional, compassionate and lovely. The personnel in this company have all been great. I am over the moon to have my data back. Now I need to take the time to print out all of the pictures as an added back up!

PS: Give Tam a great big reward and not a pizza party or some lame donuts and coffee. Show her how valuable she is to the company because you have a gem there. I have been in management for over 25 yrs and she is the type of employee we all dream of finding.

They were fast

They were fast, amazingly fast. They communicated every step clearly and politely. They were able to recover all my photos and data from a dead tablet. It took them less than 24 hours. Their price was reasonable. Just a great all around experience.

Dropped the ball

Data Tech did the recovery off of the floppy discs to a thumb drive, but the files they provided were not readable. I asked for help and they seemed engaged at first, but eventually never followed up or followed through. Very disappointing.

This is disappointing to read. I did look into your recovery case and found the case manager you were working with left the company days after you contacted us which would explain (not excuse) the loss of contact.

With that said when we recover data from antiquated devices like floppy discs, at times customers do not have the old programs they used to create/open their data with originally. Since we can only recover data as it is on a device sometimes customer will have to find those old programs or find a way to convert data after we've recovered the data from an antiquated device.

My external hard drive crashed and…

My external hard drive crashed and within a few days DataTech Labs had it fully restored on a new external hard drive for me to take home. They saved over a decade of data for me and I cannot thank them enough!

Recovery - partially successful

Ordered recovery of text messages from a locked cellphone. When the representative showed me the information before payment, the messages I needed were there. However, upon receiving my file, the text messages were nowhere to be found. They attempted to send the file 3 different times, each time the contents were slightly larger than the first, because they recovered everything off the phone and not just the text messages. I have asked them to send me a flashdrive with just the text messages. I haven't received a response back as to whether this was completed.

Update: received the flash drive. Only some of the messages needed were received. It was worth trying. Did get additional info that I had not anticipated so it wasn't all bad.

I thought it was all over

I thought it was all over. 1.75 TB of contracts, contacts, documents, pics, going back to 2001. MicroCenter and Best Buy couldn't recover my data. But DataTech did it. Granted it cost more than the computer, I had to have the data. 99%+ appears to be fine. Customer service was great.

My external hard drive stopped working…

My external hard drive stopped working after taking a fall. I first tried a standard computer repair company who told me my only hope was to take it to a sterile lab. I tried different lab who took a non refundable $100 to tell me nothing could be recovered. I wasn’t ready to give up so I called DataTech Labs. From start to finish they were great to work with, sympathetic to my loss and confident that they could do something. They were successful in the recovery and I’m so grateful!!

Over and above!

This review is way overdue!
I brought in a small external hard drive that wasn’t being read by the laptop. I was pretty sure I had duplicates of most files (but not positive) and didn’t want to spend a fortune rebuilding a drive. DTL worked with me above and beyond in solving the problem at a reasonable price.
My idea of a great business is one that can provide a win-win outcome. Thank you DTL!
