Looking at 33 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Consumers frequently mention that the clothing items suffer from poor quality, weak stitching, and fragile fabric that tears easily after only a few gentle uses. Many people also express deep frustration regarding the expensive shipping costs, unexpected fees, and the complete lack of straightforward refund options. Only after a sale, zero customer care

Sadly I have been done by clever marketing and although i would have to agree, the style of the dresses i have loved but I have been left feeling extremely disappointed in their customer service.

I fell in love with my first one that when i could afford to i would by another. Just recently i have purchased 3 in the last two weeks. My last order was 2x Kyra. 1 Maxi and 1 Midi.

Imagine my shock and disappointment to discover a sale Buy 2 get 1 free.

I contacted Customer service (a long shot I know) to see if there was a way i coukd benefit from my recent purchases, perhaps being recognised as a lioyal customer.

All i got was a thank you for purchasing and have a lovely day. I even got a flower to leave my experience on a condescending note.

All i see now are marketing schemes to entice buyers without offering any element of legitimate customer service or welfare.

I will not be purchasing ever again.

Thus is a company exploiting marketing ploys to encourage buyers without an ounce of customer service

Absolutely LOVE my dresses

Absolutely LOVE my dresses.

Kyra Midi - this is a little see through at the bottom as it’s not lined, however a little slip dress solves that. The dress is light weight, gorgeous flow and vibe.

Zuri Wrap - I wore this to work (real estate sales agent) and not only did I feel beautiful but I received so many compliments. It is thicker than the zuri, not see through at all and the material feels beautiful on.

Unfortunately no refund.

Unfortunately I didn’t read the return/refund policy prior to purchase. Sadly there is NO refund only store credit. Their style just doesn’t suit me so pointless exercise getting a store credit. Will try and sell on EBay.

Disappointing

I wrote a review on here in December '24 about my poor shopping experience at the Byron Retail outlet for this brand. The business wrote a reply back (online) apologising and provided an email to reach out. I tried to email them but to my dismay discovered the email provided was incorrect. Then yesterday I received notification from Trust Pilot that Daughters of India had made a claim that my review was defamatory in an effort to take it down. It wasn't, so it's still up. In my opinion this compounds an already bad situation and makes me realise their initial reply was not genuine and they think nothing of trying to shift the blame to the customer to avoid having a negative review online.

Hello Ranjni,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re deeply sorry to hear that your dress hasn’t held up as expected after only a few wears. This is certainly not the standard of quality we strive for, and we can fully understand how frustrating this must be for you.

Our garments are lovingly handmade, and while this craftsmanship makes each piece unique, it should also ensure durability. We take feedback like yours very seriously and will be investigating this further with our team to understand what may have gone wrong.

SHOPPING OUTSIDE OF AUSTRALIA? AVOID THIS BRAND AT ALL COSTS. READ THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON TRUST PILOT.

AVOID ESPECIALLY IF BASED IN NORTH AMERICA. I wish I had come across the negative reviews on trust pilot prior to purchasing, it would have saved a lot of time, effort and financial loss.

Daughters of India are marketing their brand on social media to customers in the US and across the globe without being transparent in their advertisements on shipping fees and taxes, returns policy and financial burden to their customers. It’s a shame as I do believe this brand is trying to position themselves as an ethical label, however their returns policy unfortunately completely contradicts their values. As someone experienced in e-commerce, I can confidently say the returns policy of this brand will ultimately be what ends it. The cost associated to resource customer service enquiries (including these complaints) could be better served by reviewing their cost model and approach to blockers to purchase entirely.

The best ANY inconvenienced customer can do, regardless of your location around the globe is google AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION AND CONSUMER COMMISSION and head to ‘Report a Consumer Issue’. The ACCC is a fair trading commission run by the Australian government. Positively for the consumer, the Australian government are very active in monitoring unethical business practices, and for many on here who have been mislead by advertising, sent a credit voucher in a foreign currency, inaccurate sizing information, shipping and return fees, the ACCC will listen and take action where necessary.

In my specific case, I received a dress much larger than the sizing chart dimensions indicated. I was devastated due to the hassle of needing to return from the US. I was also very confused as I was charged in US dollars, all email communication was in US dollars, yet the brand wanted to issue a credit voucher in Australian dollars.

After some of back and forth with Daughters of India I was able to obtain a refund however not without the brand keeping $25USD / $40AUD under the disguise of a Return Fee, despite one of their customer service representatives initially explaining this would be waivered. On 12/20 the brand had another representative email me to clarify the fee indicating the earlier representative misspoke and it the fee would apply to a refund.

The sobering reality of the situation is this review could have been avoided had the brand offered a fairer returns policy, or simply refunded the $40 fee. The upside is I hope many others are able to obtain a rightful refund and have their case reviewed by the ACCC.

Most likely, this brand will post an upbeat, friendly, however let’s be real gals.. quite condescending response to each of our negative reviews on trust pilot. The only difference YOU can make is by reporting your experience to the ACCC and have a fair review of your complaint. All the best! 🌈💛

Dear Vanessa,
We deeply regret to hear about your experience and understand the frustration this situation has caused. Your feedback is truly important to us, and we’d like to take a moment to address your concerns.

Transparency is a priority for us, and we strive to provide clear information regarding shipping fees, customs charges, and our returns policy. Details about customs and duties are noted during the checkout process to ensure our customers are aware of potential charges before completing their purchase. That said, we recognise this can sometimes be missed, and we are committed to improving the visibility and clarity of this information to avoid confusion.

Regarding the sizing issue, we are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience caused. While we work hard to provide accurate size charts for all of our handmade garments, we understand how disappointing it can be when an item doesn’t meet expectations. It’s disheartening to know that our efforts to resolve the matter fell short of providing you with the seamless experience we aim for.

We are constantly reviewing our policies, including our returns process, to better align with our values and customers’ needs. Your feedback about the returns fee has been taken to heart and shared with our team for consideration.

Lastly, we’d like to assure you that our responses, including this one, are never intended to be condescending. We are genuinely here to listen, improve, and provide the best service possible to everyone who shops with us.

If you’re open to further discussion, we’d love the opportunity to address any remaining concerns and work toward a resolution. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly at hello@daughtersofinida.net

Stunning prints but feels like poor quality

I bought a dress - the print is absolutely beautiful, the cut is nice (though tight at the chest). Unfortunately, as others have commented the material is paper thin, you definitely need to wear a liner under it, and feels like poor quality with stains on it where colour didn’t set properly. It is quite disappointing, yet I wouldn’t have given a bad review but… they didn’t publish my review on their website despite it being not a completely negative but honest review. Others have commented on this too, it makes me a bit skeptical about the company and their claims.

Uk residents beware

This company work/ distribute from Australia, but the ads in the UK do not explain this. This means high import costs and impossible to send anything back. I was able to cancel my order straight away though. Others were not so lucky and have been left with below par clothing at above 'sky high' prices.....

We are sorry to hear you are disappointed with the shipping costs. We hear you 💗 We understand your concerns about the costs associated with shipping, duties, and taxes. At the moment, we conduct our quality control in Australia to ensure that each piece meets our high standards before it reaches our customers. This is why we currently ship from Australia. Please know that we offer a subsidised rate for our UK orders as shipping costs are genuinely far more costly than the amount that we offer. Customs charges are set by each country and unfortunately this is outside of our control. We really wish these charges didn’t exist but unfortunately there is no way for us to avoid this. There is a note at the checkout when selecting your shipping method to advise that customs taxes may be associated with your order, as well as in our shipping information. I was so looking forward to receiving…

I was so looking forward to receiving my two dresses maxi and mini one, they looked so pretty and vibrant on the website. When they arrived I was so disappointed , they were dull, thin and see through. The fit was also not right and cut me off at the bust and made me look alot bigger than I am. Not worth the expensive price they were.
Unfortunately, I didnt read the refunds policy before I purchased these and they do not offer you a refund only an exchange or credit for the store. I dont want to exchange as I feel the rest of the dresses will be the same. So now im stuck with two dress that were over $350 NZD. Also they charge you to send them back an absorbant amount which is ridiculous . I wouldn't recommend Daughters of India .

I'd love to give this 5 stars, but....

I own a Kyra midi, a Jasmine midi and an Uma maxi dress - all of these are beautiful. The Kyra is made from light fabric which is great in very hot weather but can be a little see through with the lighter shades. I actually bought two of these and sold one on as I found that the cuffs were very tight and digging into my arm. Also, it did not have pockets. The later version I purchased was much better cut. The Jasmine midid is beautiful and very comfortable to wear, and I love the Uma so much I'm seriously considering buying another one! I'm 51, 5'7 inches and a UK size 12 and the wrap style is comfortable, flattering and very elegant to wear, even for every day. I've had so many compliments on this dress.

Other pluses are fast and efficient shipping and prompt responses from customer services.

I'd love to give DOI a 5 star review, but in the 2-3 years I've been a customer, here are the downsides I've found:

Very expensive to ship to the UK, what with customs, tax, etc. For the amount of customers here, surely there must be a better way to ship so as not to pass all this cost on to the customer?
Terrible returns policy! No returns allowed at all, which makes purchasing the right size difficult. Website advises to measure, and yet because these are handmade and produced, there are naturally some discrepancies in sizing and details. You even have to pay your own shipping to return for exchange, all of which makes it a very expensive exercise.
I ordered a Roo top, which then promptly shrunk after I washed it exactly as per instructions. I did manage to get this exchanged in the end but it took several lengthy conversations with customer services.
Value for money: the fabric is soft, pretty and lightweight, which does make it fantastic for hot weather, but the downside is that some items do look, and feel, a little cheap. I appreciate that this is a slow fashion model, but I do feel that it's overpriced if I'm honest. Having said that, I love the Uma dress so much and wear it constantly in the summer, so it's probably pretty good value in the end.
If the price point, shipping and returns policy were sorted out, I'd give DOI five stars.

Hello An,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed feedback. 🌻

We’re truly grateful for your continued support over the years and so happy to hear that you love your Jasmine midi, Uma maxi, and Kyra dresses! 😊 It’s always wonderful to know our pieces bring joy and comfort ~ especially when you receive compliments along the way!

We also appreciate your honesty about the areas where we can improve. We’ll pass this feedback along to our team to further refine our designs and processes.

We understand that international shipping costs, customs, and returns can be a frustration for our UK customers. As a slow fashion brand focused on ethical practices, we aim to keep our processes sustainable, but we’re actively exploring more cost-effective shipping solutions. We also recognize that our current returns policy can be challenging, and we’re working to find ways to offer a smoother experience while still staying true to our values.

Thank you again for your kind words and constructive feedback. We’re so happy that the Uma dress has become a summer staple for you! If there’s ever anything we can do to make your experience better, please don’t hesitate to reach out at hello@daughtersofinidia.net ✨

Do not waste your money on these dresses .

I really wanted to love this brand as the dresses looked gorgeous. I ordered a kyra dress to the UK for a wedding. I was so excited. Dress turned up and I can say that it’s one of the most awful dresses I’ve ever purchased. It Is such an unbelievably bad cut, shape, length and paper thin cheap material. I look like I’m wearing a massive cheap nightie. The breast hem cuts straight across my chest and just hangs so awfully, so I look ridiculous and much much bigger than I am. (I ordered 2 dresses in different sizes so it wasn’t me getting the sizing wrong) I wish I could get a refund but their policy says no which again is unbelievable, so I’m now lumbered with this dress to try and sell on for a fraction of what I paid, which quite frankly is massively overpriced. The only positive worth 2 stars was that the customer service was prompt and good when I had to send one dress back to Australia to exchange for another size, (costing me again a lot in postage!) sadly when the other dress turned up it was just as bad. I have to say I’m so disappointed. I will never buy from them again, I feel like I’ve been scammed, do not waste your money on this brand. Whenever I look at that dress I just feel robbed, upset and angry. All the emotions you don’t want to feel when looking at a dress you’ve bought.

Hello Sarah,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I’m so sorry to hear that your experience with our Kyra dress wasn’t what you had hoped for, especially since it was intended for such a special occasion. It’s disappointing to learn that the fit and fabric did not meet your expectations, and we completely understand your frustration.

We strive to provide accurate sizing and product descriptions on each product page to help our customers make informed choices, but it sounds like the dress didn’t align with what you had in mind. Our garments are made with lightweight, hand block-printed cotton designed to offer comfort and breathability, but we recognize that this fabric may not be ideal for everyone.

I’m glad to hear that our customer service team was able to assist you promptly with your exchange, though I understand the additional shipping costs must have added to your disappointment.
