As a tourist
As a tourist, it's an experience to do for sure (but there are many operators to choose from), but with this operator be mindful of the following and what you get for a Luxury package.
1. Details of sight location (actually near Al Khatim), and general instructions on event is below par. No details provided prior
2. Upon arrival you will be hard sold a VIP package (card payments accepted). The difference to your luxury non-VIP and VIP is (a. VIP you can have soft drinks and water from arrival, non-VIP only water until after dinner is served, then you can have soft drinks, b. VIP eat earlier, non-VIP BBQ only served after 7:30pm, note event finishes at 8:30pm), c. VIP food is apparently a little more than non-VIP (although I can't confirm) d. VIP you get sofa seats, non-VIP on the floor cushions style).
3. For the events itself upon arrival, people will try to put on headwear (but you will be charged). You then get led to an individual to pay and will try to sell VIP access.
4. First is the camel ride. Luxury package is a 40second camel ride in a small enclosed area (you only get one loop). For 15min camel ride, you need to pay extra
5. 4X4 dune drive. Lasts about 5mins max.
6. Sand boarding. We had one board, to share with about 10+people. So that means you get about two goes down a dune.
7. Quadbike (not part of the lux package) is basically riding a quad bike around for a few minutes in an enforced area again...so no adventure trail etc.
So overall, glad I ticked off the things to do...but to make the experience more pleasurable for the family I had to spend much more than expected.
