dma is not a good school to send your child to.

this school is so bummy. they literally push every student especially in the 6th grade. they get written up by looking at the teacher in a “funny” way. this is really not tolerated for me. some times they are nice then they turn mean the next second. they make kids be meaner, commit themselves, and plenty more. also the school is DIRTY. the food made my niece throw up and they almost barley eat the food too. my daughter comes home to me complaining, crying, and being mad because of how this school treats her. they do nothing about bullying. my daughter told me that there was a fight with the 6th graders and the gym teacher was watching them fight and laughing to not tell. disappointed and disgusted. also i can tell that they have sexism in the school. the boys get told in the morning to take their hoods off but the girls don't. the lady teachers look in the boys bathroom, and the one particular dean looks inside the girls bathroom. even if its to “tell” them to go to class and get out its still not expectable. i understand that discipline is the way to “help” the student act better but the way they situate it is horrible. my niece left the school recently due to bullying in a low grade which is sad. the boy would repeatedly mess with her like hit her, stick the middle finger at her, and call her names. they wouldn’t do anything about the reports from her but when she did something back and hit him SHE got in trouble and got suspended multiple times. this is what im talking about. bad staff. bad students. bad environment. i do NOT recommended you to send your child here especially if your planning to keep them there in a higher grade, mostly middle school. i pray that this school gets better and a healthy environment for the little ones and even older ones.

Detroit Merit is one of the worst school ever

Detroit Merit is one of the worst schools I could have put My children in my children have always been in advance class Detroit Merit has allowed My oldest son to get jump by other students because he was new to the school until he started fighting back then I was contacted they have favoritism over the girls. They hate when you advocate for your child they gang up on you (Staff) and blatantly lie on you.A male teacher jump in my face after I entered his classroom because the other male teacher assistant was allowing my son to be assaulted by a lil girl every day he was told "the little girl was his favorite so my son just has to deal with it.I tried to get them to look into the situation when I was approached very aggressively by the male teacher who continued to yell and hyperventilate I ask him to calm down a number of times in which the principal, the secretary,A dean and another staff member clearly saw the male teacher yelling. The staff stood behind me literally watching him do this....the very next day I was told I am not allowed in the school anymore in which to be honest I have never been welcomed or felt welcome I have never been able to go into classroom and observe my children or anything of that matter I have followed every protocol to become a volunteer and still to this day has never been able to come in school and volunteer mysons are A students but they take my 9 year old son through the ringer he's never allowed to do any activities they send ridiculous behavior notice home for the stupidity they lie on him and treat him differently because he tells me everything they do to him daily and I address them and that they don't like I would not recommend this school to my worst enemy if I had one I am definitely looking into removing my family from this school I am a very disappointed parent.and also I forgot they had a male teacher there around the children who was abusing his own daughter and was fired.I hate the day I decided to enroll my children there. On Halloween one of the staff members husband was dressed in black face with Jordan's on smh its so much more I will share but becareful about enrolling your children here ecspecailly boys with a strong up bringing they wanna timid our boys out and they run the school like a prison the way and the reasons they discipline the boys.

My childs school

Detroit Merit has really shown me that they practice what they preach by my daughter excelling on all levels. Mrs. George is a supportive and encouraging teacher that has been cultivating my daughter from her first day. I would recommend this school to anyone that wants a child that can excel and thrive.

Academic excellence...

The level of academic excellence that the school is holding the student to as well as the parent, is awesome. At the rate they are going by 8th grade graduation they will have all college bound students prepared before entering into high school. I think it is awesome and teaches that hard work does pay off!

DMA tends the the academic needs of your child. They find their weakness and make them stronger. My daughter can read and in the process of understand what's she's reading in kindergarten. The staff are great! It's like your child is in their own little community their.

A School that is up to tgechallenge

I transferred my daughter to Detroit Merit from another public school. I was beyond elated that the student ratio was small ensuring my child could have one-on-one with her teacher. I love the enrichment activities (some free/ reasonably priced). I appreciate my child is being tested rigorously to ensure comprehension of the subject matter. Awesome school!

The school is great compared to most ib the area.

I don't care for how my son's grades are based upon a assessment test that may or may not tell me what kind of student he really is and what help will be given to change low test scores. Also, lunch program, in my opinion, is not healthy and most students throw the food away. The lunch menu is not what is served most often.
