Like most people I purchased secondary insurance believe it or not through Allianz the company that Dickmanns are tied with so on my last visit to Spain in September I refused their quote and paid the 1000 euros deposit , what a fool , after numerous phone calls to Dickmanns and taking option 3 for accounts to be told they will email there accounts dept about the issue , I am still waiting 15th Dec but it gets better today I checked my credit card account on!y to find that Dickmanns had taken a further £357 , phoned a__soles , again would not talk to me and said it is all in an email which I received within minute's which reads " unfortunately Atlas Choice has financial problems and has stopped the payments to the car hire companies working with them . Due to this issue, we need to charge Atlas Choice customers the amount pending for the car hire from Atlas to us ." Not bad seeing as the car hire was £74 ,spoke to Atlas and only to be told " take it up with your credit card company " Are these two companies in cahoots. The whole episode has left a very bitter taste , please please please do not use these b__st_rds . A very irate customer in Poulton Lancs

Still Waiting for a Refund

Hired a car for the 2nd time; first experience really positive - hired a car from Alicante in June 2016 and received the fuel refund without problems. Decided to use Dickmanns on a 2nd visit to Spain but because the insurance seemed excessive, opted to pay a deposit of e950.
Interestingly the quality of the car was poorer when using the deposit option - scratches all over the vehicle and this was confirmed by the employee who "checked" over the vehicle with a torch and midnight.
Returned the car at the allotted time but two months later have still not received a refund despite very nice exchange of messages!!

Absolute disgrace still have my money 2 months later 950€

I hired a car. Simple one week rental. No issues with the car, but the staff made me take insurance out as they said that the full insurance I had paid online wasn't their own and didn't count. They took 950€ saying it had to be on a credit car. 2 months later I still haven't got my money and I've called them multiple times emails them loads. They are a disgrace. I'd imagine have nearly 1000 euros from multiple customers for 2 months at a time must earn them a very very healthy interest. It's disgusting.

Never again!

Have been going to Spain for many years and have used Dickmanns lots of times without any problems. The last visit in September however was a whole different matter. They normally take a 'blind' charge on the credit card. Not so this time. €950 was removed from our credit card the same day. The car was returned undamaged and thank goodness we had the invoice signed confirming this. Eight weeks later, despite phone calls and assurances that the money was 'imminent' there was no return of the deposit. It has taken the intervention of our Spanish solicitor to produce a result - two days after her call, the money miraculously appeared, 10 weeks after the car was returned.

Appalling customer service - avoid at all costs.

DO NOT USE

This company has to be the worst I have ever dealt with. I normally don't post on sites but was told by a Dickmanns employee that they didn't care what I write as there are plenty more customers to replace me! They will take exorbitant deposits and never pay them back. They are unbelievable. Please be warned!

Complete rip-off Merchants

Please avoid this Company at all costs. If you refuse to take their excess insurance, they charge a deposit of 950euro which they debit directly from your credit card account.(Most car rentals just block out the funds)They promise that your credit card account will be refunded within 28 days. I had to wait 43 days for the return of my money. After persistent phone calls to Spain/e-mails,etc., it was only through the good offices of "DoyouSpain" that my money was returned promptly. They had the use of my money for 60 days, including the rental period.I was also charged credit card interest and a non-sterling transaction fee of over £30.Never again!!

DISGUSTING SERVICE & NO REFUND OF MONEY

We hired a car on 16th September - 22nd September 2016. They took a 950 Euro Deposit from us which we have in writing to say they would refund in 21-28 working days. We have handed the car in perfect condition which we have photographic evidence. They are now not answering my calls and emails with no refund after 35 working days. I will be writing to my credit card company to get a refund on my money. Stay well away from this company.

Never use this company

I hired a car on 22 September and had it until 16 Oct. It was handed back in perfect condition and have the reps signature to this effect. They were to block 950 euros as I did not take their expensive insurance. They did not block it but took it from my credit card. Many emails and phone calls later have had no effect, they are simply keeping the money. I hired a car through an agency from 25 Oct to 1 Nov and the car broke down on 28 Oct. They had correctly blocked 950 euros and they now sent me an invoice for mechanic call out for 350 euros. Instead of just taking this amount they took the whole 950 euros even though the replacement car was returned in good condition. I have now sent all correspondence to my credit card company hoping they can help. So please never use Dickmanns Car Rental, they have to be the most disreputable car rental company on the planet. If you cannot find another car company then walk, you will have less stress. At the moment it is with my credit card, if that does not work then I will have to engage a lawyer. Patrick ONeill

Awful service

All the comments below happened to me. Terrible would never use this company again and my car rental for 4 days Ford Fiesta pick up and drop off at Alicante with no damage done to the car cost me £889 including currency fluctuations as they take the deposit from your credit card. I don't know of any other car rental company that do that. I now almost 2 months later have still not got my £1000 back and lol and behold today another amount of money have been taken from my credit card. I have not been anywhere near Dickmanns since my experience with them and never will and I HAVE NEVER given them any authority to take more money from my credit card. Vile company

The rip off is getting worse.

If you don't take on their own insurance you now have to pay a hefty deposit. In my case 950 euros. And when I mean pay I mean pay. Not just a block or authorisation on your credit card an actual payment. They will keep your money for about three weeks before refunding it. Shame on you Dickmann's.

Dickmanns Murcia

I was worried after reading all these negative reviews. However must say that I had no problems. I had a nice car for 10 Euro a day. Yes they will try to sell you expensive insurance and if you don't buy you will have to leave deposit for excess and petrol, which will be taken out of your card. However they have refunded the petrol next day and the excess within 10 days. The same car with different company would have cost me twice that much. Mrs. Susana Díez was particularly efficient and professional.

Dickmanns need to be held accountable and should take action.

(Originally written for Atlas Choice, regarding Dickmanns bad customer service)

I have booked through Atlas Choice twice in the last 12 months and my first experience was a standard transaction that went without any issues. Paid my money for an allotted date to have a car for a two week period. Car was fantastic, the rental company were absolutely fine.

My second experience was less joyful. Last week I went to Alicante and hired another car through Atlas Choice and was offered Dickmanns. The end result is that I truly believe Dickmanns conned me out of circa €93 by the employee behind the desk in the Dickmanns car depot office. In the current financial climate, that's more in sterling.

Here's what happened. Before checking the car, the employee at Dickmanns took my license, passport and credit card and processed the details to confirm my pickup and took credit card details for any potential collateral.
He then picked up a scrap piece of paper, lent on the counter and scribbled two numbers on it, €92.45 and € 98, looked at me and mumbled in very quick, broken english "Insurance or pay petrol?" and then wrote down a third number "excess" which was over €910.

Like everyone here who has complained, and already bought excess cover through Atlas Choice, I protested at being offered even a choice. As far as I was concerned, should I have an accident, then I took out the excess cover already. He replied "We don't recognise their insurance here". I felt like it was pressure sales immediately and said I'm not paying your insurance, just give me the car.

I was immediately shown the card machine to pay for the petrol in the tank, which would be refunded when I bring the car back refuelled. Then shown the box to sign for the car and ushered out to see the car.

Now this isn't a complaint about personality (or his lack of), or about the car. It's a simple statement of what occurred during that transaction and what was highlighted to me once I returned to the office after delivering the car with a full tank. The €92.45 had been taken from my card for the insurance that I did not need or want. This, to me, is close to theft or would be considered criminal in the UK and I would be able to take this matter to the Ombudsman for being treated unfairly.

Once I had seen that other customers had booked Dickmanns through Atlas Choice and had gone through similar experiences I knew that Atlas Choice is part to blame. They're offering insurance excess options for a rental company that duplicate that service anyway. More than that, they're brokering a 1 out of 5 star rated company that have ripped people off consistently. If Atlas Choice think this is acceptable then, as a comparison company, they need to be held accountable as much as the rental company. The sheer amount of complaints is worrying, and all the different amount of complaints varying in levels of disturbance too. This should suggest some form of action.

A lot of money needs to be refunded to a lot of unhappy customers, victimised by an unfaithful business model. Simply speaking, can Atlas Choice actually get it sorted?
Am I likely to receive a response like "We're sorry for your bad experience" or "We can't be held responsible for Dickmanns actions" or "Please accept this £10 off voucher on a hotel in Vienna..." you get the picture. We shall see.

dont use DICKMANS/doyouspain.com

what a rip off, if you don't take out Dickmans insurance of 111 euro
you have to pay a 1500euro deposit,if you bring back the car full you still get charged 50 euro, which is more than the cost to fill up the car, my bill was 224.20 euro plus 64 euro fee to doyouspain.com, a total joke

Could.I give them a minus, I'm still waiting after nearly 8 weeks to get back our petrol money👎👎 We even bought their own insurance, so we wouldn't have any problems! DoyouSpain won't answer my emails either👎

Deposit Overdue

This business has now exceeded the time limit they give themselves for refunding deposit. The car was ok but this is unacceptable. They are clearly operating in the twilight zone of honesty.
They don't answer the phone or respond to emails. The website and its apparent professionalism is clearly not backed up by their service.
The sum has now been put into dispute with the credit card company.
I will never, ever use these charlatans again.

RUBBISH COMPANY DO NOT USE THEM

We booked via DO YOU SPAIN for 1 month and paid for fuel etc and deposit on damage to vehicle of 950 euros. Most companies put a hold on your credit card NOT THIS COMPANY they actually take the money. When we returned the car in good condition on 20th September we expected that no action would be taken. We have checked our card transactions and see there is no refund On the contrary they had taken 950 euros on 23rd August and now say it will take 28 days to refund it.
THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY USING THE MONEY TO PROP UP UP THERE COMPANY. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Just awful .

Waited to be picked up for 40 min at the airport. Had to call them (there is extra charge on the phone). Then processing took as long. We had our insurance so we had to leave a deposit of 950euro. Has been promised it back in 25 working days. 4 emails and 3 calls to the office we just got the money back, 3 AND A HALF MONTH LATER. Lost on the exchange 30 euro. Will never ever deal with that company.
p.s. also if you are returning the car after hours, 40 euro charge.

Deprecated

In this summer, on the 13th of August, I and my two friends rented a car in the Alicante's office. The car was a Skoda Fabia with diesel fuel.
In the end of our trip, when we delivered the car, everything appears to be ok. In fact, we delivered without any damage and with full tank of diesel. Three weeks later my friend who has booked the car, received on his bank account the charge of the security of the company amounted to 400€. Once contacted the company, we explained that we made of diesel in a gasoline car. But in reality we were sure that the car was diesel and also this thing was also explained by an employee.
