Really awful

Too many verification hoops to jump through. Tons of spam and the feeling of big brother breathing down your neck. Avoid.

Where does your advertising money go?

I used Disqus for over a decade, and when they brought in advertising, the rules were clear. When you hit US$100 in earnings, they’d pay out.

The ads never earned much money even though we had a site that was getting myriads of page views daily. I’d occasionally check the total to see if we were getting to that US$100, then I planned to remove the ads as they were getting really intrusive. I had earned over US$90 at one point.

One day, I checked on my Disqus dashboard, and that money had vanished. There was no record of a payout. I complained.

Disqus responded and said they would look into it. What eventually arrived was NZ$100—35 per cent less than US$100 at the time of the payout.

Either Disqus pocketed over a third, after lying about how much I had earned in their dashboard, or they don’t know how currencies work. It doesn’t reflect well on them.

What was also curious was that for the month before I got rid of Disqus, this five-figure-page-view-a-day website was earning $0 through their intrusive, ugly ads.

Something incredibly fishy is going on, and it’s not a company I can trust. Maybe the old Disqus of the 2000s, but not what it became in the 2020s. Caveat editor.

It is awful

It is awful.

No possibility to reduce maximum length of the comments. Why??? It would be an hour work to make it possible? I don't want people write 6.000 characters long comments. Few times the comment is longer, than the post itself.

No way to stop links. Even if you delete https:// and www. from the comment, it still will be a link. And, "of course" no way to open it in a new window. I don't want my readers go away by links in the comments and I don't want spam links on my site either.

Hard to stop it to send hundred e-mails a day, every moment when somebody wrote a comment.

I can't see, when moderating, that what is the original comment this answer come. I can't decide if it is troll, offense, or a regular and normal answer. I have to check after moderation on the site. Stupid and lame, 100% useless.

Crashed for half a day, all over Europe. It was not the first time and not the last one.

And so on.

The worst I ever have used. I hate it.

Unjustifiable

When is the Spectator magazine going to sack Disqus, which twice deleted my harmless comment and then twice deleted my complaint about the deletions?

Spamgenerator

It works well, until it starts spamming your mailbox for every post made on the same issue/forum. The unsubscribe button at the bottom of the emails doesnt work, and there is no contact option on the website or in the email. This kind of spamgenerating should be banned.

I see many here who are upset because their postings have been labeled "Pending" or "spam." I have had the same treatment and some posts have been deleted. I proved this by posting on one computer and looking for it on another, And guess what? Disgust deleted it. POOF! Gone. I prefer to call them disgust. They're obviously walking lock-step with the communists. Sad but true.

Permanently shadow banned over nothing

Whatever their moderation system is, AI or human, it is beyond help. My profile got permanently shadow banned {all posts marked as spam) after a humorous quip that was not dirty, solicitous, vulgar, personal attack or a call for violence upset some extremists who apparently reported it en mas. Requests for review went unheeded and three months later, I'm still shadow banned. Disqus is apparently beyond help.

You better agree with their opinions or you are toast

I am not sure who is the 'moderator' of disqus or the website using it, but my factual, un-dirty, un-profane comments were removed from a couple of the sites which use it, The Gateway Pundit, and Revolver News. My comments did not fit their narrative but were were factually based, yet someone from Disqus removed my comments.
Other posts with filthy language remain on there with no moderation
Further, prior to removal, posts were lost in the ethosphere.

I have repeatedly reported to you that "Tony Tony" is relentlessly spewing venom/profanity.
Perhaps your checking software does not catch it because it is in non-english.
Do you want to shun this merry maker of sorts.
If you do not want to do it, say so, on my face.

Disqus is TERRIBLE at doing what it is…

Disqus is TERRIBLE at doing what it is supposed to be... having conversations is nigh impossible because more than 75% of the time comments are lost to the digital abyss. I wish sites would stop using it. Besides that, the censorship is un-American. Trash software.
