I retired to Madrid in November of 2024. DKV was recommended by an insurance broker. My experience has been fantastic. I have had MRI's, a colonoscopy, dermatology procedures, vision and dental work as well as an annual physical. In Madrid I am able to get a consult with a specialist often the next day. The English speaking customer service is very helpful and for procedures that need authorization it has never taken more than 1 day. I would highly recommend DKV

Worst Customer Service experience ever. *****0 rating******
Before passing my mother has secured Funeral coverage Policy for me to help with extremely expensive funeral costs.
I have reported her passing to the agent. Agent was to handle the rest. Well, she didn’t, she didn’t even tell me that there was a time limit. Every time I spoke to her, she told me that she is too busy with commercial banking and I should speak to a bank teller who sent me back to her.
But, exactly 30 days past the time limitation, she found the time to send me a cancellation letter with advice to contact claims, which in return asked me to contact the agent. Vicious circle at every level.
I have filed a complaint with the Defensa Customer Service. Few hours later I received a short reply containing words from the cancellation letter.
I’ve sent additional 6 e-mails, but I received no reply.
Agent wrote to me informing that she has not been contacting me as Sabadell Bank have already answered my inquiry regarding the insurance “decesos” with DKV.
No other details. No other explanation. No accountability, no apology. I spend lots of money to obtain the requested, Apostille certified Death Certificate
The end result is that the agent’s banker’s related duties, lack of ownership and follow up caused me to pay the price.
Had I read the reviews on DKV site, I would have known that this insurance has over 61% negative ratings!.
Save your money and aggravation. Find yourself a medical insurance carrier that beside collecting high premiums, also cares about their customers and covers losses.

COMMENT; June - 11 - made several calls to the number provided.
Spoke to 3 people and the moment they find out that I am calling about this review I was hung up on me instantly. There is no way to inform DKV that in order to apply Art. #5, I would have to be told that such an article even exists!. DKV and their agent kept this a secret until way past the time limitation, quietly cancelling the Funeral Policy and they are still refusing to communicate.
This cancellation has no legal basis if customer has not been advised of the policy requirements. DKV didn’t fulfill their duties to inform, communicate and advise of requirements!

And they are also more expensive than competitors.
I have yet to have a good experience in any form.

I had high hopes for DKV Seguros, but unfortunately my experience has been very disappointing and I would not recommend them.
A few months ago I asked to downgrade my policy to their basic plan. The process was already unnecessarily complicated because I had to speak to several different representatives before it was finally arranged. When it was eventually confirmed, they told me clearly that the price reduction would take effect within a couple of months.
However four months later I discovered they had actually been charging me even more than before. When I contacted customer service to correct what was clearly their mistake, instead of acknowledging the issue they tried to convince me that paying more was somehow “cheaper.” At no point did they properly take responsibility for the error.
What I found most frustrating is that they do not seem willing to own up to their mistakes and dealing with their customer service felt exhausting and unhelpful.
I was previously insured with Sanitas and switched because I was led to believe DKV would be cheaper and offer good service. Unfortunately my experience has been the opposite.
Based on my experience I would strongly suggest thinking carefully before switching to this insurer.

Im struggling with this company. I've injured myself months ago and i had to:
1) go to a traumatologist
2) get an ECO
3) Go back to the traumatologist which suggested 15 sessions with physio
4) get an appointment with a rehabilitation centre so they check me
5) finally get to the physio.
It took MONTHS to have a physio appointment. This can have serious repercussions to my body.
Why paying for a private service if jt takes so long to get things done?

They sold my insurance contract to another broker, so I have to go 20km to be attended! Unbelievable.
And the "new" broker is worth nothing. He buys contracts from other agents and sits on them.
Zero service.
If i could give 0 I would terrible company AVOID.
Cancelled our policy in good time of cover expiry via email and telephone conversation.
I was advised we would receive a confirmation email confirming cancellation but nothing arrived and now we are sent weekly emails from accounts recovery asking for outstanding payments of substantialamounts!
I have been emailing DKV reminding them we cancelled but other than the demands no other acknowledgement recieved to date?! Disgusting customer service from this company.
This company is the absolute worst.
Every time I have to interact with them I want to die. Absolutely nothing works - the app, the website, whatsapp, calling them - the user experience is just so dire.
I had one online consultation with a doctor who seemed drunk. I had an in person appointment with a dentist who looked at my teeth for a grand total of 5 seconds before trying to sell me expensive dental surgery, which a second opinion confirmed was totally unnecessary.
They take your money and give you nothing, it´s a total scam. AVOID.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with this company
I got insurance through an agent for my visa in Spain, for me and my children. I have had no issues with the insurance at all. Everything i have been to the doctors for has been treated within my insurance.
I have read the negative reveiws and have not experienced anything like this from DKV and would recommend them.

DKV Seguros have 11 policy levels.
I started on the most affordable level that got me visa/residency/ TiE.
My family have had great use out of the policy, and we have all had good experiences with using the policy for a wide variety of medical issues. Many expats take out a Spanish medical policy yet have no clue as to how it works.
My first policy only let me use the listed doctors in the network, and it never required any payment to clinics or hospitals, therefore, there can be no reimbursement (it wasn't a reimbursement-type insurance).
A few years ago, I upgraded my policy to the DKV policy, which gives me the freedom to choose doctors or specialists.
If you do not speak Spanish, then find an English agent for the preferred insurer, so you have another level of assistance.
ASK: Established agency, Tailor Made Healthcare Spain, who offer the support you need for a Spanish DKV policy.
BE WARNED.
Just be aware that all Spanish insurers will scrutinise your checks, tests and scans in the early days to see if anything pre-exists the start date of your cover. So if you have a chronic condition, or heavy wear and tear, these will not be covered where a doctor's report mentions it is historic.
This is important to know, as there is a high likelihood that at the age of 55+, with the advantage of suddenly having easy access to doctors, you may discover more than you expected, and there is a lot of proof of that on Trustpilot, judging by some of the angry reviews.
DKV are a very good insurer who provide a lot more advanced tech treatment options than any other Spanish Private health insurer, but I cannot stress enough that if your Spanish is lacking, then set your policy up through an English insurance agency and take advantage of the fact that an agency of an insurer will have in-depth policy knowledge, and back room access in the insurers departments.
I have had a great DKV medical insurance plan for over 20 years a policy that works because I have acquired an in-depth knowledge.

Yet again I find myself here. DKV operates by constantly asking questions until any pre-booked procedures are missed. My son needs an operation and DKV has not approved (or denied) the claim, just endless questions - they even confirmed receiving documents but then say they did not. Anything to delay a claim. This is the second time it has happened. Sadly, I'm locked in for them for another year but will be cancelling as soon as I can - and I recommend everyone else cancels or never signs up. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE COVER YOU THINK YOU HAVE.

Awful insurance company. They don’t cover much, and the procedure they put you through, called “authorisation” is stressful and annoying. They come up with several excuses why they reject the authorisation request, and always asking for some extra document. They have an app which is absolutely useless, when you upload a document they can’t see it, you have to call to tell them that you uploaded, usually they ask you to email it. Your email goes through a filter so it reaches them approximately with 2 hours delay, then you can call only to say that you sent an email. What a ridiculous system!! Anyways, i don’t recommend to use them under any circumstances.

Terrible customer service. We have been trying to cancel our policy since we are no longer in Spain and they simply don't respond. At this point we think they are ignoring us and will auto renew our plan! We have sent over 10 messages with all the necessary information and zero response to confirm our policy is cancelled.

Scam company, I had to go to an emergency doctor for an urgent treatment and now they do not want to reimburse me for it, I paid for years on time and never had a claim and not it comes to a claim and they just do not care and ignore it and not pay, I am left out of pocket and paid this useless health insurance for nothing, STAY AWAY for this SCAM COMPANY DKV - horrible experience I have ever had...

Terrible health insurance company, both of my daughters had the same surgery, they only covered it for one of them, for the other one, they never approved it, and I had to pay myself 2000+ euro to cover the surgery. Apart from that, they continuously ask for extra documentation, are slow in responding and don't approve requests on time. We're going to sign up with Health Aegon which is the best voted insurance in Spain.

Worst insurance there is. They cover NOTHING. Their own doctors prescribed a treatment which was not covered by the insurance itself, so it is useless even going to the doctor since they won’t help you even if you got a diagnosis. They are extremely unfriendly, their app does not work properly, no one and I mean NO ONE will help or even listen to you. Don’t even try getting anything authorised because they will decline without explanation or reasoning. My procedure which they refused to authorise for a good year has finally been authorised but only after taking legal steps (!!!). Now, as part of this procedure I need one-time medication, and surprise: they do not cover it 😂 after asking for a refund they said „ Vaccines and medications are not covered by your health insurance.“ So, to summarise, if you get this insurance - better not get sick or need any procedures or anything concerning health because they will not cover it :)

Very Bad Customer support !
I am trying to get my reimburstment of basic phsiothreapy sessions for the last 3 months. It is a very basic operation and I send them 6 invoices, they keep trying to refund me with 5 althought I have send them 6 invoice like 10 times. And they can not send it to my bank account. So they keep my money 3 months and I coulnd not continue my treatment.
The stuff is not good enough to complete one refund process either.
DKV is a sick insurance company.
They select Hospitals, but if you want to use a selected Hospital, they are going to sit on the chair of the medical specialist because you need an authorization to proceed.
So, they know your medical threatment better than the medical specialist they selected!!!
And, this takes days...
And, they ask questions without respecting your privacy.
I have a running problem and due this, I can't leave DKV at the moment, but otherwise...
Don't do business with this 'insurance' company.
DKV is providing very bad service….Its worst service provider …every time you need approval from DKV before any test…even though DKV will charge you a lot ….which is ridiculous….
