I had a major problem with domaintools
I had a major problem with domaintools, we didn't find a way to close our account and stop the membership and now we have outstanding invoices. Be cautious.

SCAM
SCAM. Purchased a domain WHOIS history report and their systems didn't email me a report. They claim it's because we send "spam" when that isn't at all true. We're a merchant with over a half million customers.
They said they will refund the $49. We'll see. Very nasty and rude customer service. Hopefully they're not one of those companies that just takes the money and run. If we had customer service like this, we'd be out of business.

DomainTools.com -> Privacy Violation
They should not store personal information of people in order to sell it.
A lot of people don't like the idea that their personal information is stored and associated with a domain name, even after one does not own the domain name anymore.
Also, whois-privacy-protection cannot hide personal information for all types of domains, for some types of domains whois-privacy-protection is not supported.
Only authorities should have access to this kind of information, not the average Joe.
It's ridiculous, unethical and most likely violates privacy rules.
I asked them about it, but did not receive a reaction from them ever.
A shady company in my opinion, I can't imagine their operation is legal.

Avoid doing business with this company
This is an obnoxious company. They have just announced a more than 3-fold increase in monthly price from June 2016, having undertaken a year or two ago to preserve the former rate for so-called legacy customers like myself (I have been paying their monthly charge, plus other offerings, for about 9 years). The undertaking in question has been quietly breached, and the massive 200+ % increase now being forced upon members offers nothing tangible in return for the increase.
