I have a rather nontraditional background in accounting. I'm not a CPA and I'm a little "long in the teeth" to expend the time and effort to acquire that designation. However, I can be an expert CFO in the Cannabis Industry and help businesses avoid problems common to all and the additional issues plaguing the cannabis industry in particular.

I joined the DOPE CFO program earlier this year, and have been very pleased with my investment. Andrew and his corporate team have been very responsive to my every connection and call request as I was making the decision to invest in this program, and continued to be responsive after I joined. The program breaks down cannabis accounting concepts, and client acquisition into simple language and actionable steps. The added bonus has been the on-going support from weekly calls, and the DOPE CFO community of skilled finance and accounting professionals that I can reach out to for assisstance and collaboration when I need it.

As a CPA, I was interested in learning more about this brand new growing industry and about joining this community. I had a call scheduled with the owner, Andrew Hunzicker, and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately (or more really fortunately), I had something pop up with work and was maybe 7 minutes late to answering the call. In that time, he proceeded to text me that I was banned me from ever booking a call with him and getting the discount. I, of course, apologized and explained that a meeting at work ran a bit longer than expected and I was told I was not a fit. It was very unprofessional. You can see that in how he responds to other lower star reviews. If this is how he talks to potential customers, I would hate to see how he reacts to customers that have already paid. Save your money and do your own research. If you have any tax accounting experience, you'll be able to figure out the rules and how to best help your clients.

I started the Bootcamp program about three months ago, and it has been a valuable experience. While I have not joined the VIP program yet, I plan to upgrade once I secure my first client. Despite not being in VIP, I reached out to Andrew and Raymond and received insightful guidance on my questions. Raymond, in particular, provided invaluable advice and encouragement that helped me move forward. I truly appreciate the support and look forward to continuing my journey with this program!

I joined the program a few months ago and there is a lot of bang for your buck. The program itself is not cheap, but it's not meant to be. The real question is "Is it worth the price?"

In my opinion, it is. There is a wealth of knowledge, support, and actual supporting documentation provided. There are practical "blueprints" for learning the industry, getting started, and a plan for how to reach out to find clients. Andrew and the team are always within reach if you have any questions.

In addition to the program purchase price, there is a voluntary (it's free for your first 30 days) additional monthly charge to participate in the VIP community. If you are planning on investing in the program and following through, the VIP community is well worth the additional monthly fee.

There are other programs out there that are just as expensive (if not more), but do not provide the same level of value. Additionally, the team is very involved and continuously provide updates and information regarding the status of cannabis accounting.

If you have a background in public accounting, you will appreciate the work papers provided and a lot of the research information given.

Practically speaking, the platform wasn't my favorite as I got started, but once you learn to navigate it, it's fine. Occasionally, there will be a link to something that no longer works, but a quick email to the team or google search will help you find the information.

As with any business, the work you put in will directly correlate with your results. The information and "blueprints" are provided, but you have to be willing to do the work in order to suceed.

I am a member of DopeCFO VIP. I have been involved for a number of years. It is a very supportive environment where Financial Professionals specializing in the Cannabis industry cooperate and work together to deliver first class services. Although we are all experts we often have different strengths and areas of expertise . We work together when necessary to deliver great outcomes for clients. I have many positive experiences but none better than this week when Raymond went out of his way to help. He secured a Cannabis lawyer outside of the US to assist me with an International client. He also coached me on pricing and gave me sales tips. The result was that I closed the client with a retainer and we are now working on fund raising issues. I can't say enough good things about DopeCFO, Andrew Hunzinger, Raymond Guns and the whole team of Professionals. It feels like more than team; it is really a supportive family of Professionals. Two big thumbs up!

I recently joined DOPE CFO. At first, I was hoping to gain insight into the cannabis business world, but this program gives you more than that. It provides you with a business in a box, exactly as it is advertised. You have to do the work to reap the rewards of the program! Well worth the effort! It is all up to you!

After "accidentally" working with 2 different cannabis companies, I went searching for resources. I was shocked to find almost nothing outside of the IRS. I became an early investor in this program, joining in April 2019. In February 2019, one of my non-cannabis clients approached me to assist with their application for a cultivation license and asked me to serve as their CFO. I had been working in accounting since 1992, running my own practice. My experience includes serving as an accountant on a construction project in Jamaica and working as a controller for a multi-sector business overseeing 13 different companies. However, I was not familiar with accounting for the cannabis niche.
I quickly searched online for cannabis training, and DOPE CFO was one of the first programs that came up. After researching it further, I reached out to the owners and spoke with them directly. I decided to start the program in April 2019, once tax season was over.
Having been a self-employed accountant for nearly 30 years and owning multiple businesses, I had experience across various industries, but cannabis was a completely different landscape. The training gave me a whole new perspective on accounting, especially with regard to 280E, 471, and a deeper understanding of the plant itself.
After joining, I faced some medical setbacks in late 2019 and early 2020, along with the challenges of COVID, so I couldn't become active until 2021. I joined the first, and I believe only, Mastermind group, which provided valuable insights and access to software for my accounting business and the verticals I represent. It also offered advanced accounting techniques, working papers, education, and support from group leaders and others in the Mastermind and VIP groups. I have assembled my own team from this group to assist clients, which includes experts in investor relations, creating high-end proformas and pitch decks, QuickBooks specialists, financial clean-up professionals, income tax experts, and gurus in entity structuring
Since joining, I have spoken at several Lucky Leaf and Canna One events, become involved in various local and online groups, attended MJ Biz Con, and am currently preparing for MJ Unpacked this fall. I've collaborated with various verticals in the U.S. and connected with more prospects recently. I've also stepped in to assist a few Advisors with their clients' needs. I really value how this group leans into each other's strengths and collaborates effectively.
There were times when I had to take a step back, feeling as though I might not succeed in this industry. However, I received tremendous encouragement from Andrew, Kristi, Ray, and many others in our Mastermind and VIP group. Their support helped me overcome imposter syndrome and build my confidence. Motivated by their kindness, I strive to offer the same encouragement to other members of the group.
