Validated tickets, still fined

Very frustrating experience as first-time visitors to Prague. We bought and validated our tickets correctly and, while leaving the station, approached the inspectors ourselves because we believed everything was fine.

Instead of checking immediately, several inspectors spent time discussing the situation between themselves, and only after that told us the tickets had expired by a few minutes. If this is their daily job, why the delay? It honestly felt like the time passing worked against us.

We were fined 1200 CZK per person and told that if police were called the fine could become 2000 CZK. We still waited around 20 minutes for police, but nothing changed.

The whole situation felt unfair, stressful and not very professionally handled. After reading other reviews, it seems many tourists experience the same issue here.

Never travelling Prague again..Scum country

I travelled to Prague last week for 3 days with my husband and 2 young kids and purchased 72 hour travel ticket to cover my stay. However as soon as we had entered train after purchasing our ticket train inspectors have followed us on the train and fined us for not activating our tickets. The inspectors could have warned us before we got on the train to validate our tickets However instead they waited for us to get on the train and fined us immediately. This is disgusting, as I tourist I will never travel prague again I feel that is a scum that government allows to happen to tourists intentionally to make money. I lived and travelled in the Europe all my life and never experienced such stupid rule. If I'm only in a country for 3 days and paid for 3 day travel ticket how can I be fined for such minor mistake. Clearly I'm not benefitting from the mistake either. Also what's the point in purchasing the ticket? You might as well just get on the train without a train ticket and pay the fine if you get caught, that way you will at least save money on the train ticket???

Aggressive ticket inspectors

my wife an i travelled to prague last weekend. We paid for a 24 hours ticket, but unfortunately did not activate in time to get on the tram.

We were approached by a plain clothed ticket inspector who presented a small metal badge. He forced my wife into a corner, took our passports and shouted at her wife to the point of making her cry. He made her feel very unsafe, I do not expect this from people in the public sector.

He said we had not activated the ticket and needed to pay 2000 in fine. We did so immediately but he would not return our passports, and continued to shout! I eventually had to take the passports back from him else we would have missed our stop.

I accept the fine, this was my honest mistake and I take full responsibility. However, there is no need to be so aggressive. He behaved more like a scammer than a ticket inspector.
