I had a problem

I had a problem. Instead of calling, because I unfortunately don’t speak Italian, I communicated via email. The response was timely and the problem fixed in a comfortable manner. I sent an email and the next morning a response was waiting for my review. After only 3 emails, and knowing the time difference was a hurdle, the problem was solved. Fortunately, I had the benefit of time, so, emails worked out great. Thank you

The website is very difficult to…

The website is very difficult to manage. I booked a car in Italia and the app and website doesnt allow for changes, recognize my booking. The email on the website bounced back as an error.

Beware the credit card

First of all, the good stuff. Nice car, quick response when I seeded breakdown assistance, easy out of office return, and efficient confirmation of return

Decent EV policy too. Return more than 80% full and no fuel charge.

Where they fell down was credit card. I booked though autoeurope, which states a physical major credit card must be presented. I handed in my Visa credit card with a Revolut logo, and it was instantly refused as an "online bank "

I then handed in Visa credit card with an an AIB logo on it. Perfectly acceptable

Total nonsense. But be warned. Had I not two card's,my holiday was ruined

UPDATE: Resolved on 14.06. Unfair practice at Roma Termini – Family with children left stranded despite paying for Supercover

UPDATE (14 April 2026):
​NOTE: Issue partially resolved.
Following my initial review, I was contacted by the Drivalia customer support team. They reviewed my case and, despite their standard non-refund policy, they agreed to issue a partial refund for my booking. I appreciate that they took ownership of the situation and reached out to provide a proactive solution.
​I am updating my rating from 1 star to 4 stars because the customer service department handled the conflict professionally, even though the initial counter experience was disappointing.

Original post:
​I am writing this to warn other travelers, especially families, about Drivalia's rigid and unfair practices at Roma Termini.

​I had a confirmed reservation (Ref: IT26FLXdmt1rs) and I had already paid in full, including the SUPERCOVER (Full Insurance). Despite having the highest level of insurance, which should minimize any risk for the company, I was denied the vehicle simply because I presented a Debit Card.

​I was traveling with my wife and two young children. I offered to provide a higher security deposit or find any compromise, but the staff showed zero empathy and refused to help us.

​What is even more disappointing is that Drivalia is now refusing to provide even a partial refund. They are retaining 100% of my money, including the premium for the Supercover insurance—a service that was never activated and for which they assumed zero risk since the car never left the parking lot.

​To keep the full payment for an unrendered service is, in my opinion, an abusive commercial practice. I have since secured a car with another provider (Centauro) who accepted my debit card without any issues under the same insurance conditions.

​I strongly advise you to avoid Drivalia if you don't have a specific type of credit card, as they will take your money and leave you on the street without a second thought.

What awful service

What awful service, Arrived at milan airport last week (02/04/26) only to get stuck in the new EU passport control system for 4 hours.
To then be told our pre booked hire car had been given away to another customer and they did not have any more cars available by the rude girl on the counter was shocking.
She kept saying we should have called to say we would be late but as we were in the passport queue this never crossed our minds, Also said i should have given them the flight number which was in big font on the booking.
The most shocking service

Avoid Drivalia wherever you go


The staff are extremely careless, rude, and poorly trained. They speak with arrogance and seem to take pleasure in making things difficult for customers.
The reservation was made in my husband’s name. We both had credit cards, mine physical and his digital. Because the contract was in his name, they refused under any circumstances to accept the digital credit card, even though there is no mention anywhere that the card must be physical.
I went next door to OK Mobility and rented a car without any issues.
For two hours, the employees were mostly absent from the desk, constantly outside smoking. Completely unprofessional. I sincerely hope they disappear from the market.

Good experience

The van was one hour late in being available but no issues with the van or the return. Refund to my credit card can within 15 minutes of return.

Much improved

The WORST ever!! Stay away from them. I was supposed to get a replacement car for my KIA electric ONE full month after it was taken in for service. These clowns had no idea about the free replacement car that I was promised and had nothing other than a old stinky Citroen diesel to give me. I was promised a contract by email but it NEVER arrived!! I have no idea what is going to happen when I go back to return the car without a contract at hand.

My original review above was very negative but they have made a notable effort to rectify my experience and change my opinion.

I refused insurance but they added it…

I had some issues with being charged for some insurance I don’t request but it was sorted quickly by decent customer service

I wasn’t able to enter my USA number

I wasn’t able to enter my USA number - there was an issue with the website I had to use my friends Italian number. I tried calling multiple times and nobody could help me. I spend $50 on international calls trying to get in contact with someone to help me.

Look out for LPG/GPL cars

Look out for LPG/GPL cars. I reserved a non-GPL car but was given a GPL/pump gas hybrid car at pickup. There was no instruction at pickup to use pump gas and not GPL so I filled the tank with GPL. When I returned the car I was charged a fee for not filing the pump gas. Horrible service. The car didn’t have basic things like Apple carplay. Customer service was totally unhelpful .Would not recommend.

Bullying behaviour to pay for extra insurance

I rented a car from the Alicante Airport office. Pick up and drop off to airport was good. However it took nearly an hour to get the car at the car hire office.
Whilst I was being served, I could hear the staff member serving an older man next to me. The male staff member was virtually bullying the man to pay for extra insurance, even though the man said he had his own policy to cover any damage. The customer said 'no' and then the staff member took another tack and started the bullying all over again. This went on for nearly twenty minutes. In the end the man paid up for extra insurance. I heard the man outside saying to his wife that he had paid just so he could get out of the office.
I took have my own insurance and refused to discuss any extra payments, stating I had already read their booking conditions, showed them my conditions I had on my phone, and refused to read them again.
Whist the car was good, I had need to call the office to advise them of an issue. I tried many times and could not get them to pick the phone up. So in an emergency I'm sure thus would be a serious problem.
I will never use this car hire company again, hence me leaving a 1 star review.
