We had a really positive experience with Duke’s Tutoring and their affiliated school Devonshire Prep.

A year ago our son was attending a French bilingual school and had large gaps in his maths knowledge, along with zero exposure to the reading comprehension, writing, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning expectations typical of top UK independent schools.

With Duke’s help, we put together a structured plan. He did an intensive summer “boot camp” programme and then spent just one term at Devonshire Prep (an affiliate school of theirs that they recommended) to do the final preparation for his 11+ exams.

We were so happy with the results! He received offers from 4 of the 8 schools he applied to — including Habs (where he’ll be starting next year), UCS, and Mill Hill.

What impressed me most was how knowledgeable Duke’s tutors are about the entire 11+ process. They clearly understand the roadmap and know how to efficiently help children close gaps quickly and build the skills these exams require.

We’re extremely grateful for their support and would happily recommend them to other families navigating the 11+ journey!

I have worked as a Tutor through Dukes Tutoring (started working with JK Educate which was taken into the Dukes group) for 3 years now and only had positive experiences. The administration of matching me with new tutees is well-organised and the support offered by my mentor is very helpful in understanding how I can best support my students. The expectations of me as a tutor are high, but that is as it should be. The Dukes online platform for delivering online lessons (all my lessons are delivery this way) is so easy to use and means I can focus on delivering the best lesson possible rather than worrying if the IT will work. Overall working with Dukes is a very professional and enjoyable experience.

I am a tutor that works with Dukes Tutoring. They are great to work with and I have always found them to be friendly, helpful, supportive and communicative. The set up is unbelievably bespoke, efficient, focused and kind, sourcing and matching first class, highly conscientious and caring tutors in Pete and Steven and overseen weekly with a slick and thorough pastoral check in with Leanne. Our only regret is that we did not discover the team sooner. The world really is your child's oyster with the JK Educate team.

The article "What’s the Difference Between State School Versus Private School?" by Dukes Tutoring is a smug, patronising exercise in middle-class self-congratulation masquerading as educational insight. It reads less like an informative comparison and more like a thinly veiled advert for private education, riddled with sweeping generalisations and conspicuously lacking in facts.

Let’s start with the absurd claim that extracurricular activities in state schools are “few and far between.” That alone reveals the writer’s total ignorance—or wilful disregard—for the reality of the state sector. Many state schools offer rich, varied, and often award-winning extracurricular programmes, all while juggling funding cuts and growing class sizes. Unlike private schools, they do this without charging £20,000+ per year.

The article also makes a hollow point about private schools being able to tailor their curriculum. Yes, they have flexibility, but in reality, most still follow the same exam boards, sit the same GCSEs and A-Levels, and teach the same core content. The “curriculum freedom” line is a tired trope designed to imply superiority without actually saying anything of substance.

What’s most infuriating is the tone: patronising, reductive, and dripping with snobbery. There is not a single piece of statistical evidence, research reference, or balanced viewpoint. It’s pure anecdote and bias, painting state schools as under-resourced wastelands and private schools as the holy grail of education.

In short: this article is a disgrace. It insults the professionalism of state school teachers, dismisses the achievements of millions of students, and reinforces tired elitist narratives that do nothing to improve education for anyone. If you’re looking for facts, nuance, or fairness—look elsewhere. This is propaganda dressed as advice.

JK provides an incredible bespoke service for all things 11+. The team have guided both of our children (and my wife and I) through the 11+ process. My experience as a tutor for JK Educate over the past year has been amazing, especially transitioning from nearly a decade as a full-time classroom teacher.
