I contacted Duncan Lewis Solicitors on 4 May 2026 seeking urgent Legal Aid housing/public law representation in a serious case involving prolonged homelessness/displacement, Ealing Council’s failure to provide safe interim accommodation, missing statutory homelessness and safeguarding records, closed/inaccessible Locata housing access, alleged unlawful eviction, alleged disposal of my belongings/documents by Council-linked housing providers, including Citadel Housing Ltd, Smooth Management Ltd and Landlords Rights Ltd, and possible urgent interim relief. I provided detailed written information and repeatedly explained that I require email-only communication due to health, trauma and accessibility needs. Despite several follow-up emails and new evidence updates, including MOPAC upholding my police complaint review, the Met accepting MOPAC’s recommendation for further investigation, and the ICO asking Ealing Council for further clarification, I did not receive a timely or clear response. I also called on 26 May and was told I would be updated within 48 hours, but I still had to keep chasing. After around a month, I was eventually told they would not take my case. I understand solicitors may have capacity or Legal Aid criteria limits, but the delay and poor communication were very disappointing in such an urgent matter, especially where I had clearly requested written/email communication and was seeking urgent help because Ealing had not provided key documents, safe accommodation, or a clear remedy.

From a complex case to UK residency in just two months—thank you, Hina!

When I decided to apply for asylum, from the very first consultation with Hina via our online meeting, she believed in my claim without requesting any type of evidence. She told me, "If you are unable to pay for the service, I am willing to support your application in full." I informed her that I work online independently and would be able to pay. Hina knew my case was complex and that it would be hard to prove my claims, so she guided and helped me. Several times, Hina worked during both the weekdays and the weekends. She even sent me emails after 1:00 AM, and finally, within two months of applying for asylum, my application to the Home Office was accepted. I was granted refugee status without them requesting any evidence or an applicant's asylum statement. I only did the first screening, then within one month, the Home Office emailed me with my first interview, and today I am officially a resident.I did not use any public social media platforms to prove my claims; I just hired Hina. I always followed her advice and I never argued with her. I just asked her all the time, "Do you think I should do these things?" She always responded with honesty, "Thamer, the decision is up to you, but I think you should do it." I always trusted her because she never let me down and always recommended the right things for me.Lastly, Hina Kargar will, one day, be well-known globally because she is the most idiot woman I have dealt with in my entire life. I am currently working with Aine at Duncan Lewis and have been deeply disappointed by the experience. Rather than feeling represented, I feel as though my own consultant is acting as the opposition. "I have escalated the full details of this mess to your Client Care Team.

"I have contacted your Client Care Team with the full details a dozen time and nothing has changed and just told me they have 8 weeks to deal with the complaint. Went to ombudsman was told I had to wait 8 weeks for them to deal with the complaint before they can step in. Went to legal aid same response.
To be honest, my experience with Duncan Lewis has been a nightmare.

Despite complaining over a dozen times that the caseworker is too passive, nothing changed. I was told to 'be patient' while the Council did nothing. In the end, I had to step in and do the legal work myself just to get the Section 184 decision the caseworker couldn't secure, not once was there an apology but I did receive an email from the solicitor asking me not to contact the council what a joke.

It feels impossible to get real help. The actual Solicitor refuses to be copied in on emails and informed me not to cc her and only to deal with the caseworker, so I'm stuck dealing with a junior staff member who just quotes the law at me instead of fighting for a vulnerable client. Not her fault.

I am currently doing my own legal representation while the firm claims the fees. I simply cannot recommend a service that leaves a vulnerable client to fend for themselves."

I have effectively been forced to manage my own legal case. I would advise others to look for a firm that actually advocates for their clients rather than just administering files."
The solicitor is non existent, she told me to stop sending her emails and to deal with the caseworker only, there is no advocacy, no one to complain to, every time I raise a legal point the caseworker tells me she will discuss with the solicitor and of course it’s crickets or she comes back with quoting the law. With my experience I find it hard to believe they have all these positive reviews. This law firm is uncaring, robotic. I have no sense they are fighting my corner or even think outside of the box. I hired them to advocate for my nephew and unfortunately I am out of the country or I would be chasing this firm.
If anyone reading this is thinking of hiring Duncan Lewis please don’t even if referred there are better more caring firms out there.
I should have looked into them now we are stuck.
