Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the service and found the user experience frustrating due to the lengthy and complicated booking process. Customers also reported significant issues with contacting the company, often finding the system unhelpful and difficult to navigate. The customer service was frequently criticized for being poor, especially when people were at their most vulnerable. Some people, however, found the system brilliant and easy to use, especially for managing chronic conditions, and appreciated that it eased pressure on practices, potentially leading to more urgent appointments being available.

Backward

It’s really a filter system. It saves no time what’s so ever. Because if you do get an appointment and it’s either not ideal or you have to cancel it. The call Waite times are so long you eventually have to hang up. People do have to work. So you can’t sit on your phone for 40 mins. So if they wish to have this system then they also need to have a better call system to support it. There’s no reason why they can’t have a text that reminds you of your appointment. And reply with. Keep or cancel yes or no. This frees up reception lines and appointments are not wasted. This is such a backward system

This deserves no stars

This deserves no stars. Having worked in IT all my life whoever designed and approved this should be lined up against a wall and shot.

This form is clunky to complete

This form is clunky to complete, repetitive and tedious . It's so busy trying to establish if you have a life threatening condition anything less serious is either impossible to enter or repeated multiple times. It needs an overhaul. Surely in 99% of life threatening issues you wouldn't complete a form your doctor can take up to 48 hours to respond to, you would be calling 111 or 999?

This service is dreadful

This service is dreadful. Poor customer service at a time when people are at their most vulnerable. The clinician didn't even read the consultation wording so the email reply was completely unrelated to the problem. No wonder A&E is so busy some doctors surgeries are not fit for purpose any more.

Econsult - a direct risk to patient safety

This software is a direct risk to patient safety. It is not user friendly and not easily accessible for a lot of people. It is restrictive as to when it is available for use and should be available for submissions 24 hours a day. It is almost as if it is designed deliberately to put people off and/or to push people towards attending already over stretched hospital casualty departments.

Dreadful system

Dreadful system, asking all sorts of questions of irrelevant questions at a time when all you need is medical help. Coupled with its poor implementation of AI is really a setback for the NHS

I have at least 5 long term problems

I have at least 5 long term problems, liver, blood pressure pre-diabetic, and spinal/cervical stenosis as well as osteoarthritis.
This system tells me I have a heart attack, am having a stroke and it cannot help with my symptoms so get urgent medical help WTH 😒
Phone the doctors only to be told cannot book an appointment unless go through e consult first and to go back and re-do it! I did, I lied, if only to get the system to allow a triage Appt..
Now the doctor has booked me in for MSK TRIAGE, Been there before and it's NOT what I need so.. I'm signing up to private medical health now, Amsolutely disgraceful system..
GET RID NHS!

A useless tool created to confuse…

A useless tool created to confuse patients and therefore doctors. My wife's doctor uses ask my gp a very user friendly app.
If I had ticked all the box's in econsult I would undoubtedly have been rushed to hospital. The app does not allow for this happened once. Not tick the box I have this all the time. Seeing a doctor is the best thing for patients

A shockingly bad piece of software, poorly Beta-tested.

A shockingly bad piece of software, which over promises and under delivers. The link between the (very good) NHS app to my GP is not live, yet my GP service says I must book via the eConsult service. When I used the eConsult diagnosis tool, it told me that my symptoms indicated that I needed to have an urgent consultation, but that it could not facilitate a booking and to call the surgery! The eConsult then timed out while I was on hold awaiting my GP to answer my call, losing all the date I'd entered! To other surgeries: DO NOT USE THIS SYSTEM ... IT DOES NOT WORK ... (age 62, fully tech-savvy, professional, trained first-aider - so, it's not me, its the system!)

Rubbish

This is rubbish and someone is probably making a lot of money from our hard earned taxes for nothing useful. NHS can remove this useless service and spend this money on more doctors and clinicians !

Clearly designed by people who have never had to book a GP appointment.
No facility for booking appointments to request blood tests. Tries to fit everything into categories, even though the list of categories does not cover all medical issues.
Can generate circular enquiries (i.e. go through the menus and end up back where you started).
Is this some badly educated politician's vanity project? Or maybe designed by some dodgy company that is owned by a school mate of some high-up in the Department of Health and Social Care?

Incredibly frustrating and time consuming service

For someone who struggles to make appointments due to a mental health condition. This system should be helpful but is completely the opposite. Having to choose from options that don't actually have anything to do with your condition is terrible, you have to repeat your symptoms multiple times which is incredibly frustrating and time consuming. You are then left wondering whether you will receive an appointment in the next few days. The barrier this creates between you and your practise is shocking. Has left me feeling incredibly despondent and very concerned for my health.

Great service

I am not great with my phone, but econsult is brilliant. Yes, it takes 5 minutes to complete (and auto fill function for static information would be great). You have lots of space to describe your personal issues along with buttons for yes no answers. I have a number of chronic conditions and econsult makes it much easier to manage and takes pressure off the practice so when I or others need an urgent appointment we can get one. I guess it needs to work well with the practice. It's easy to do, and I would recommend giving it a go.

More red tape over red tape.

Will write a full review in time but ultimately this additional red tape stuck on red tape is dangerous and has taken away my one lifeline being a housebound 24/7 carer for a vulnerable person. Shocking.

Edit: lmao I just realised I wrote a similar review years ago here. Proof that the service is better off being shut off.

I loathe having to us e-Consult

E Consult needs a transformation in its alliance with a GP practice. I have to use it to contact my doctor but each time I am asked the same questions (do you drink alcohol, smoke, gamble) which my doctor already knows about. Therefore I am loathe to contact my doctor and have to face a repetitive questionnaire. Therefore programme needs to be able to separate people who have used it before at a doctor’s practice and newbies.
