Mungo , Stella and Sylvie offer sailing adventures aboard this fabulous old Danish sailing fishing trawler. Their knowledge and skills allied with their professionalism is unsurpassed , and I had the time of my life ! Mungo has superb knowledge of the Scottish Western Isles , the weather , wildlife the myths and legends and can communicate as only a storyteller can .
Stella offers a warm welcome and great humour and is also a very competent sailor supporting Mungo on deck.
Sylvie produces the most delicious meals from a tiny galley , I looked forward to every mealtime.
I plan to sail with this crew on this boat as soon as I can, and I heartily recommend people to do the same.

We loved our six night cruise in the small islands: Muck, Eigg and Rum. Couldn’t make it to Canna with wind blowing 40+ but got the full flavor of the area with cozy anchorages and excellent walks.
Mungo and Stella were perfect hosts, knowledgeable and generous. Sylvie’s cooking was delicious and food plentiful! All in all highly recommended for travelers looking for adventure and willing to share close, shipshape accommodation with like minded mariners.

There are rare moments in life—when heaven and earth briefly touch, or only when the stars align just right—when you meet extraordinary people who lead you on a journey that changes you forever. For us, those people were Mungo, his wife Stella, and their wonderful crew member, Sylvie.

My friend and I came to Scotland on an ancestral pilgrimage with the intention of immersing ourselves in nature, stepping away from the demands of everyday life, and dedicating ourselves to storytelling and creative writing. We hoped for a meaningful sailing experience, but what we found aboard the Eda Frandsen exceeded every expectation.

From the moment we stepped aboard this beautifully restored historic vessel, we were welcomed with a level of hospitality that is difficult to put into words. Over the course of nine unforgettable days, we sailed through the breathtaking Outer and Inner Hebrides, experiencing encounters with dolphins, whales, and abundant wildlife while journeying to remarkable unicorn destinations such as St. Kilda. Every day felt magical, and the voyage unfolded with a sense of ease and wonder that perfectly complemented our intentions.

There were eight guests aboard, each with different personalities, interests, and reasons for making the journey. Mungo and Stella have an incredible gift for making every individual feel seen and cared for. They created a joyful, relaxed community where everyone felt welcome, and Sylvie's warmth and genuine kindness added even more to the experience.

The food deserves special recognition. It was, without question, some of the finest cuisine I have ever enjoyed while traveling. Every meal was beautifully designed by Stella and prepared by Sylvie with extraordinary attention to detail. The menus celebrated Scotland's seasonal ingredients and culinary heritage while maintaining an artisanal, gourmet quality that made every breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, and snack something to look forward to. It elevated the entire voyage.

One of the most meaningful moments for me was noticing the phoenix emblem near the ship's wheel—a symbol that beautifully reflects the spirit of the Eda Frandsen herself. Hearing Mungo tell the remarkable story of the vessel's restoration after a devastating fire gave the boat an even deeper sense of character and soul. Knowing that local craftspeople and the surrounding community played a role in bringing her back to life made sailing aboard her feel like participating in a living piece of Scotland's maritime history. The Eda Frandsen isn't simply a beautiful boat—it has a story, resilience, and heart.

Mungo is also a gifted storyteller. Whether we were sailing through spectacular waters or gathered together in the saloon over dinner, he generously shared the history, wildlife, folklore, geography, and culture of the places we visited. His knowledge transformed the voyage into far more than a sailing holiday—it became an immersive experience of Scotland itself.

The pace of the itinerary was equally perfect. There was ample time to explore ashore, enjoy the sailing itself, reflect in quiet moments, and simply take in the incredible beauty surrounding us. Nothing felt rushed, yet every day was full of discovery.

If you are looking for more than a sailing trip—if you're searching for an experience that combines adventure, history, exceptional hospitality, remarkable food, and genuine human connection—I cannot recommend the Eda Frandsen highly enough.

Recently back from an amazing time on Eda Frandsen. Mungo and Stella were fantastic from start to finish - so helpful, knowledgable, kind and, most importantly, fun. Sylvie’s cooking was amazing too, providing a constant supply of delicious and interesting feasts for us to enjoy. We all loved exploring the different islands and the Scottish sunshine (we were extremely lucky!) allowed for lots of swimming, walking, snorkelling and exploring too. Would thoroughly recommend!

We had the most wonderful passage up to Scotland from Falmouth. The last voyage of that passage for Ed Frandsen. The crew were incredible and made us all feel most welcome. Sylvie's meals were both varied, tasty and delicious, and there was no shortage of food available. Mungo and Stella did a great job of looking after our safe passage, including us in the crewing and taking us to some of the most beautiful places on the way. We had fun all the way, even in cold or rainy weather. Trip of a lifetime.

In August of '25, I did a six-day, sailing/hiking adventure on the Eda Fransen with my eldest daughter, her husband and my son. I simply cannot extol the whole experience highly enough. Everything about the experience has produced warm wonderful memories for a lifetime.

For starters, the Eda herself - an obviously lovingly and laboriously maintained, beautiful traditional gaff-rigged cutter. For small-time, once-upon-a-time sailors like myself, it was wonderful being to engage at least a bit with the art of operating such lovely boat.

The setting in the Inner Hebrides was as spectacular as expected. The cozy anchorages, often within a short hike of mirror-like lochs, the dolphins frolicking in the bow wake - - - all far-exceeding my very high expectations.

The food was astonishing. Delicious and plentiful by any standards, we were amazed every meal at Stella and Iona's ability to produce and produce such gracious meals from such a tiny galley.

However, by far, the highlight of the experience for me and for my family were simply the people. Mungo and Stella are simply incredibly nice people who manage to combine their obvious love of sailing with a level of gracious hospitality - and good humor - that creates an almost instant sense of "family" around the dining salon, on deck, in the dinghy. Additionally, every single other person on the voyage - our four delightful fellow passengers, our hiking guide Alan and Iona, the last-minute addition to the crew - were a pleasure to spend time with, even in close quarters. We genuinely made new friends who we still maintain contact with.

I simply can't recommend highly enough for anyone with a love of boats and bit of a sense of adventure.

Since my schooldays I’ve always been drawn to remote and rugged beauty of the Hebrides. Every now and then I yearn to be reconnected. They are best appreciated by sailing the waters, tides and currents that surround this archipelago. And no better than on the Eda Frandsen.
She is a beautiful restored 1936 Danish, wooden, fishing boat converted into a gaff-rigged yacht. She is the home of Mungo and Stella that sleeps 8 guests. What she is not is a luxury superyacht but a charming and cosy piece of working history that requires a degree of flexibility and agility to feel at home. Mungo and Stella are hugely experienced sailors and it’s a delight to witness their calm and competent seamanship. Even the most novice guest will feel nurtured and valued. Mungo delights with his huge knowledge of the islands and wildlife. Stella mystifies with her ability to sail whilst simultaneously providing an almost non-stop supply of restaurant quality meals that she impossibly conjures up in the tiny galley. It is nothing short of wizardry. Their sense of fun, adventure and expertise ensured all the guests enjoyably rubbed shoulders as a cohesive team.
I enjoyed every moment of this nine-night voyage out of Oban, ending in Mallaig. It far exceeded my high expectations. Happy memories of sea-eagles, shearwaters, puffins, dolphins, magnificent scenery, fine dining, friendship, whisky and, not least, the enchantment of Eda Frandsen.

Returning to sail on Eda Frandsen after a 17 year gap was bound to cause some apprehension. Would it be as exciting? Would the new owners make it such an enjoyable experience? Would the food be as good? Would the crew be as friendly? Would we see as many dolphins? The answer was a resounding yes on all counts (except for the food, which was even better than before). Mungo and Stella clearly love this classic sailing boat and use their extensive sailing and catering experience to get the best out of her and give their passengers an unforgettably wonderful experience as a result.

It was absolutely amazing and wonderful. We had such a lovely time on Eda in Cornwall this Easter - the boat is beautiful, the people were really lovely, the food was delicious, Stella and Mungo were fantastic hosts, the sailing was fun. and as a ‚not experienced sailor‘, I felt safe the whole time - and my dad, who I did this trip with, couldn’t stop talking about the great time we had, once we left. I just couldn't wait to get back onboard Eda having had the most exhilarating time last August on a Mallaig round trip.Sailing out of Falmouth for 3 nights was an equally wonderful experience. I agree with all the positive comments in other reviews. Stella and Mungo are highly professional and expert in all matters sailing, safety, hosting and feasting. How brilliant that they share their love of Eda as well as the adventures and thrills of sailing in stunning locations in Scotland and Cornwall. So glad I came back for more Eda delights.

I recently took part in the Eda Cornwall trip in the Helford and I have to say it was a beautiful, mind-resetting experience. Stella and Mungo are the perfect hosts, allowing you to be as involved as you like, providing the most delicious food and the most warm, welcome atmosphere. Although we had gorgeous weather throughout which showed Eda in her prime, I’m sure even on rougher days the experience would be just as magic. Would 10/10 recommend a trip.

Sailing on the Eda Frandsen over the years has been one of the highlights of my life: a beautiful boat, outstanding crew, excellent company, astonishing land- and seascapes - and the most delicious food. If you haven't done it, do it! You'll not regret it.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a trip with Mungo and Stella aboard the Eda Frandsen in July 2024, and it was nothing short of magical! Cruising through the stunning Outer Hebrides, I was captivated not only by the breathtaking landscapes but also by Mungo's exceptional knowledge of the area and its rich history. His passion for the Outer Hebrides made every moment informative and engaging.

Stella's hospitality was equally remarkable. The food she prepared was absolutely amazing, and the lovely homely touches throughout the boat created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. I truly fell in love with Scotland all over again! Thanks to Mungo and Stella, I had the opportunity to explore islands that would have been impossible to reach as a foot tourist.

The Eda Frandsen is a remarkable piece of history in her own right, and the love and care that Mungo and Stella have invested in her restoration and modifications are exceptional, making her a truly unique vessel.

They went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed the best weather, found the best anchorages, and witnessed all the incredible wildlife the region has to offer. Each day was filled with adventure, and they made sure we experienced the very best of the Outer Hebrides.

If Eda Frandsen wasn't already fully booked for the rest of the year, I would be heading back in a heartbeat! This trip is honestly one of the best I’ve ever done, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.

If you're wondering if this is the right trip for you, wonder no more: it is. It doesn't matter if you've sailed the seven seas or if you've never put foot on any boat: this is the right trip for everyone. It is amazing how fast you'll feel at home on board of Eda Frandsen: she is a boat that hugs you, and her crew hugs you with her. I've never met such a passionate crew, with such passion, experience and joy in hosting guest and sailing, sharing good and abundant meals, old and new stories and, in general, their way of life.
Eda Frandsen Sailing is much more than just a holiday on some wooden old ship with some nice and experienced crew: it is more a -even if short- journey in a way of life.
So, if you're unsure to book a trip: just book it! You won't regret it. Any issue you may think you'll may have about personal space, food, boring hours, seasickness, other guests, etc. needs to be put aside, because I'll discover yourself at ease with everything the very moment you'll put your foot on board, thank to the crew.

This was our second trip on Eda with Mungo & Stella and we had a brilliant time. The sailing is a great experience, particularly if you and your partner/ friends have varied sailing experience but still want to travel together. Stella's food is incredible, the quality of the quarters on the boat is top and the friendly welcome from both of them makes the trip.

We booked on the 9-day Hebridean sailing adventure not knowing quite what to expect having never sailed before but greatly assured by the website stating no previous sailing experience required. Little could we have known what an incredible, life-affirming experience this would be. The Eda Frandsen boat is a charm, and stunning beautiful. The cabin compartments are snug and very cosy, while the on-board facilities are excellent considering how cramped everything of course has to be.
As hosts Stella and Mungo are fantastic. Stella's cooking in such a small galley kitchen defies belief, and ensured noone goes hungry at breakfast, lunch or dinner. All navigation and route planning are left to Mungo and Stella, while guests have the opportunity to get involved helping put up/down sails, learning the ropes and having an opportunity to take the wheel. Much of the time is spent gloriously care-free on deck watching the world pass by, spotting whales, dolphins and other wildlife, interspersed with visits to numerous tiny islands via the on-board dingy. It was a great escape from the real world and something we will be very keen to repeat in the future.

If you’re reading the reviews because you’re thinking about booking up - I can absolutely assure you that you will not be disappointed. The food is truly spectacular and everyone is fully looked after. My time on Eda Frandsen was just the tonic I needed - it truly is a memorable experience. Stella and Mungo are truly the dream team hosts - thank you both :0)

What a wonderful boat and thoroughly competent crew who looked after us and made sure we had a brilliant time, the food was amazing and kept appearing, I don’t know how Stella produced so much, please can you write a recipe book Stella! Scotland was at its best, beautiful weather, dolphins, kittiwakes and porpoises, next time we hope to see the whales. I really, really enjoyed having artist Catherine onboard who had so much patience with us all, such talent and enthusiasm in helping us, nothing was too much trouble, I would thoroughly recommend a trip on Eda Frandsen and will enjoy reading Gripping Donne, the story of the boat. Thank you Stella and Mungo for a truly memorable week onboard the wonderful Eda Frandsen. I have limited sailing experience and was travelling alone but was made to feel very welcome. The Scottish weather didn't disappoint; we had sun, wind and hail, all of which added to the excitement and demonstrated just how skilled and professional Stella and Mungo are. The scenery was, as ever, stunning. Lastly, the food was fabulous. Such a variety of super dishes from such a small galley! The whole trip was awesome, thank you.

As Christopher Cross said in his song"Sailing"..."the canvas can do miracles",Mungo and Stella certainly know how to turn the canvas into a stunning adventure.
The weather,the wind and the sea were all very kind to us as we sailed thru' the beautiful Scottish islands with a great group of fellow "sailors".We always felt safe with those two on the helm as we worked on the ropes pulling up the sails.
Every day was different...watching beautiful sunsets or sunrises from the deck,to sitting on the island of Lunga amongst the puffins.
Stella kept us well fed with her delicious fresh healthy meals(5 stars+)and Mungo entertained us with his "salty dog"stories.
It was truly a once in a lifetime trip for us,coming from Oz.
