Booked an appointment for bulky uplift and they never turned up. Refused to refund my 25£ that I paid. Very disappointed I do not recommend this service.
Council pest control
We have been dealing with Pest control for about 8 months now because of a RAT Problem in our garden. Today the boxes were removed because the Problem has been solved RATS totally eradicated! Thanks to the patience and efforts of Dave the pest control officer.
Also thanks to James who started the process and removed the boxes.

Visited Edinburgh today. Amazing buildings with history and awesome architecture.
The worst thing is how bad the council is keeping this beautiful city. The roads are poor and dirty. Graffitti everywhere. Driving around Edinburgh is like doing off road driving . Potholes and uneven roads everywhere.
Absolutely hopeless my building is been…
Absolutely hopeless my building is been demolished so all tennents are being kicked out but then have absolutely no regard for the inconvenience especially when I'm severely agoraphobic can't leave my house atol and they say you need to leave and straight up refusal for compensation they said its it's not been sorted but will be later so they sorting it all after the tennents are in new property which at that point you not entitled to it just excuse after excuse and expect people to sort a whole new house carpets with there own benefits as if life isn't hard enough but the second your due them a single £1 there on you we want it now but second they have to give us its all excuses or just passed about from person to person have no idea why I've even bothered paying all my thinks in full and on time if not early to get treated like garbage
Disgusting experience for a tourist in Edinburgh
Shocking experience as a tourist in Edinburgh, which left my Scottish family embarrassed and enraged. On Sunday 05/04/26, visited the Castle with family. Parked on Castle Street in what we now know is the wrong place (we hadnt spotted the Bus only signs). Unsure at the time when we parked we spotted a Parking Warden so went to ask him (Parking Attendant E1162) if the Sunday was included in the Bank holiday, which he replied no it wasnt free that day, but we were free to park there (Bus only zone) until 12:30 and would then need a ticket. We struggled with the Ring-Go app, so he kindly helped us put 3 hours on (£24), so that we would know we were sorted. We went up to the Castle, when a member of our group couldnt manage the steep climb in the snow, so returned towards the car. He then spotted the same parking attendant writing out a ticket for our car for parking in the wrong zone. Correct, we were parked in the wrong place accidentally, but is the Council so desperate for money to employ Parking Attendant with such dishonest behaviour? £50 ticket for parking in the wrong place, as the attendant didnt want to advise us... fine... but for the attendant to help us pay the extra £24 as well.... can a parking attendant/Edinburgh Council get much lower?
Backwards council from the 90s
Absolutely the worst council, very obfuscated systems and processes. Even simply paying council tax online has so many ridiculous steps. Like why wouldn’t your account number be easily visible? Temporary resident parking permits are actual scratch cards and accidentally scratching into the wrong field voids the permit and results in a £100 fine. I find it hard to believe anything except ECC has such dinosaur, anti-user processes to trip people up and get some more money in any scenario they possibly can.
They are happy to charge application…
They are happy to charge application fees for licences for temporary accommodation. They then reject the applications on subjective political justifications. Feels inept, corrupt and time wasting. Biased and influenced by pressure groups from miles away from the relevant address. Objections are all copied of the same arbitrary negative comments. It's a scam and if they were not a government agency, it would be considered fraud.
The parking company they use have no…
The parking company they use have no respect for people all for issuing tickets other than listening to a reason why a though it was to help they are used not just a ticketing service that a know they are NCL staff get out on a board for the top ticketing attendant a know as had a job with them but left after two weeks as it was not what a was told
Paid, but no service for weeks
Paid, but no service for weeks.
Edinburgh City Council charges £45 for the brown bin garden waste service, but if you miss the October sign-up deadline they take your money immediately and you can wait up to a month for collections to start.
Why? Because they process registrations in batches and take weeks to post a sticker.
No sticker, no collection, no refund, no pro-rata adjustment. Just paid in full for zero service while garden waste piles up.
In 2026, this level of inefficiency for a paid service is unacceptable.
We recently went on a trip to the city
We recently went on a trip to the city, we had always wanted to go. Christmas market and a show at the playhouse!
We were more than a little concerned upon arriving, that as a tourist destination your flying pro Palestine flags merging with the Scottish flags?
We had no idea that Scotland were backing either side, we could only assume that you do not have a Jewish community, or that you welcome Jewish tourists?
Also a word of caution to anyone considering visiting the city, watch out for the bike couriers! There are loads of them! On motorised bikes, you need eyes in the back of your head!
Ive had no proper heating for years
Ive had no proper heating for years , i got a letter from the council saying its been 30 years since i had them installed, the letter said the council and contractors will take no responsibility for damages that might occur. Sent a copy of the letter to the local housing office and he said that he only heard about it that day, and that was it, they no im a vulnerable tenant and i face another winter with no heating, thanks Edinburgh council.
They are absolutely useless. Mixture of crooks and incompetent garbage
Absolute morons . Fortune in council tax for nothing except housing druggies and immigrants
Storage heater scam
Edinburgh city Council installed storage heaters a few years back..I have since found out they are programed to come on at peak times during the day..so we are paying extortionate heating bills. I have been onto ScottishPower and Edinburgh city Council and both blame each other .
I have had both out and it's been nearly a month ..3 weeks with no heating.
Edinburgh council have said they can't reprogram the heaters so they should replace the storage heaters or reimburse everyone ....absolute disgraceful
I'm not going paperless that's for…
I'm not going paperless that's for sure. The council expects everyone to own computers and mobile phones . I do believe my council tax money is paying for the letters you send out to us about our council tax . It's about the only thing we get for our money apart from getting our buckets emptied and even that's been cut back buckets are always over flowing . Bin men look inside the buckets of there's not much on n them they don't even bother to empty them I've already complained about this issue. It's always we need to cut back well they want to start collecting all the council tax money that's owed to them I know someone that owes thousands but because there self employed nothing has been done so the rest of us are penalised for paying an outrageous amount of money and for what.
AN ACCIDENT JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN
I write this review as I want to highlight how dangerous George IV Bridge has become for pedestrians with all the additional parking of buses and taxis especially during the recent Edinburgh Festival.
During the festival this road was used as a car park for buses and taxis and there did not seem to be any control over how many vehicles were there or where they parked. Taxis especially were parked on double yellow lines, in bus stops, beside the scaffolding at the hotel and all down Victoria Street, places where they should not be.
The roads were so busy it is a miracle no one was seriously injured as to cross the road meant taking your life in your hands.
This problem has not gone away despite the festival being over, there are now numerous single decker tour buses, Edinburgh tour buses and mini buses using it as a car park.
It is difficult to cross the road as some buses park where you should cross and also park in LRT bus stops. On Monday our bus had to double park because of tour buses and there was barely enough room to walk single file between buses to reach the pavement. An elderly lady with a Zimmer frame struggled to reach the bus and there was no room to help anyone with children and buggies.
Not only do buses park where they shouldn’t but they sit with their engines running and can also be there all day as they are just advertising for their evening excursions.
Please, please can something be done to make this street safe again for Edinburgh folk and tourists alike as this cannot go on safely long term.
Check out my photos on Google Maps that in a small way show the problem , posted under dovetail.
Absolute disgraceful council
Absolute disgraceful council. Nipped into a friend's for the toilet for 10 minutes and got a parking ticket for £50 and ignored. The debt collectors didn't send me any notice and took £250 out of my account. Don't know why anyone would want to visit Edinburgh anymore with a council run like a mob. I'd kill myself if I worked as a parking warden.
Incompetence at its finest
Incompetence at its finest. Issued letters threatening legal action for council tax I had already paid (they had attributed it to the wrong account, and had used the incorrect email address to try and contact me). Information regarding car sent to the wrong address despite all details being up to date, and being issued a fine for not acting on it (which I couldn't as I didn't have the information). The council refuses to take responsibility for their multitudinous failures, yet expect ever increasing revenue from residents. I have yet to work out where this revenue is being spent - maybe tarring over 100+ year old cobbles (in a UNESCO site), for no discernable reason. Clearly excess in budget so need to spend it all frivolous

2. "The council's attempt to downplay and deflect responsibility for the issues I've raised is unacceptable. I demand a more thorough investigation and meaningful action."

1. "Regarding the council's claim that the screeding process is necessary, I would like to point out that this does not address the underlying issue of delays and poor communication."
2. "The council's statement that they hold no requests for a new door is contradicted by my own records and correspondence. I request an explanation for this discrepancy."
3. "The council's assertion that the leak repair was completed within correct timescales is not supported by the evidence. I request a full investigation into this matter."
1. "I expect a full apology and a comprehensive plan to address the issues I've raised within the next 14 days."
2. "I demand that the council takes immediate action to rectify the problems with my home, including the replacement of the front door and the repair of the leak."
3. "I request a meeting with the council's leadership to discuss these issues and ensure that meaningful action is taken to prevent similar problems in the future."
Leisure Centre and Recycling
This is mostly about Edinburgh Leisure, run by the council.
Stuck between two bus routes, both of which cause a 10 minute walk (Ainslie Park), tho Drumbrae is just as bad. Like you left civilisation!
I was twice sent a survey. First didn't have a hyperlink, second had someone else's completed survey with no option to edit and submit my opinion!
Twice the thermostat on the disabled shower hasn't worked, so the water is luke warm. On Monday I tried the other disabled shower and it was proper cold!
Today I was waiting to cross the road at the entrance to the nearby Morrisons and a car came round the corner, causing a tidal wave - cold shower for me before I even got to the gym!
On a side note, if it wasn't for monthly complaints, our recycling would never be collected!!!
They are thieves
They are thieves. Plain and simple. Have charged me for the same amount of council tax on the same year several times. They cover up their mistakes, and extort their citizens, the city is a state, and they don't clean up the rampant amounts of trash in my area or fix anything. If you don't like what's happening then too bad. They will take up to 8 months to respond to you and then just lead you round in circles. I have been sent letters threatening to freeze my bank account over council tax from years ago which they told me was cleared. Led round in constant circles. When it was shown they had 2 separate accounts on me they quickly deleted the one that was cleared up and recharged me my entire council tax for 2 years. Whole paper trail erased. Born and raised in Edinburgh but they have stabbed me in the back. I hate the council more than any other part of the UK government. They are the most useless, malignant, cancer in this country.
