Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 118 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers express significant dissatisfaction with the product's quality, particularly regarding the batteries, which often fail prematurely and are very expensive to replace. Reviewers frequently report issues with the warranty process, stating that the company does not honor its advertised warranty periods for batteries and tools. The customer service is consistently described as unhelpful, rude, and difficult to communicate with, leading to frustration when trying to resolve product or warranty problems. Some people also felt that the pricing of replacement batteries is exorbitant, often costing more than new equipment, which makes the products an unsustainable investment. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that the tools themselves work well and offer good performance, with some reviewers having positive experiences with battery longevity.

Junk product and company

I bought an ego 400w inverter (PAD5000). It just a couple of months old and was used twice during two power outages. The inverter went flashing red and didn’t work anymore. I thought it would not be a problem to get it fixed or replaced due to so called 5 year warranty and satisfaction guarantee. Not at all! The customer service people I am interacting with are extremely rude and they asked me to send the videos to show the serial number while inserting the battery and then turn on the battery to show the red light. As everyone who owns such an inverter knows that it is an impossible maneuver since inserting a battery requires both hands and once the battery is in place, the serial number is covered by the battery. I told them about this impossible mission. They did not believe me and even didn’t listen to me. I have sent them 7 times with separate video clips showing serial number and showing the red light flashing and photos to show the closeup view of the serial number. They don’t trust me and no solution after weeks emailing back and forth and numerous phone calls. I believe no matter how good is your product and how much ego you have. If you don’t have basic trust in your customers and a reasonable customer service team, you will lose your business. At least for me, this is my last Ego product and luckily I have not waste thousand dollars on this junk company!

The review I am writing is about trust…in the comany

The review I am writing is about trust in the company warranty. My ego stopped working in 3 months and I reported it to the company they said they would send me another. Well it’s been a month and I checked the status of my warranty and it said my case was closed
I phoned and the service guy wanted to check it again so he said turn on its side check blade and then put battery in and start. It worked this time but. I do not believe they would have replaced the mower. I WOULD NEVER BUY AN EGO ANYTHING FOR THIS REASON. luckily mine works.now . Also they would not give me a service place. To take it to!

Ego Power Equipment

Since 2021, I have purchased two Ego Lawn Mowers, one a Push the other Self Propelled. I then purchased a Ego Chainsaw. Latter, I purchased an Ego Leaf Blower and Trimmer. It was great because they shared the same Battery and Charger. I enjoyed using them because they are quiet and no messy Gas. Even though I wasn't getting the run time as quoted, it did not matter because I always had 3 Batteries ready in the charger. So no Biggie. Just about 4 weeks ago, I had issue with the Self Propelled Mower shutting off. This happened once them twice and then more frequently. I called Ego Support and they ran me through some diagnostics and determined that I had an Approved repair. Thing is, there is no Ego Repair Shop. I had to take it to Lowes, where I purchased it. Lowes doesn't do the repair, they send it out to yet a different entity. They do pick up and returns weekly on Thursdays. I dropped mine off on Tuesday the 7th October. 3 weeks go by, so I inquired about Mower. They told me that there is a charge for $72.00 because the Mower works as it should. Which it probably does until you hit the self propel button. So, I don't know that to do. I've purchased a Toro Gas Mower and will replace each Ego Tool when any sign of issue comes up. Now if they want to Buy Back my Mower we can be friends again.

I bought a CS1804 chainsaw off ebay

I bought a CS1804 chainsaw off ebay, as it had a cheaper price than Amazon, back in early March. Consumer Reports has it highly rated and with a 5 year warranty. It broke today, the tension holding bolt came completely out and will not go back in the damaged plastic. So about 7.5 months of use. I did get much wood cut but have much more yet to do. So like others I called customer service to get a warranty replacement. While the service rep was polite he referred me to the warranty info on the website which indicates only tools purchased from "authorized sellers" will qualify. Lowes and a couple others are the only authorized sellers it appears neither ebay nor Amazon sellers are on their short list. So another $300 to replace the saw since I now have over $150 in batteries and chains for that specific saw. I di buy from Lowes this time, so hopefully they will honor the warranty if need be. However, I note several others here who did buy from Lowes but still got stiffed. I also complained to Consumer Reports, so hopefully they will update their ratings.

I purchased an Ego lawn mower 3 years ago from Lowes and it died. I can't find my receipt for it and Lowes can't help me. I called the Ego customer service and they told me they would send me an email conformation of registration. I never got it so I called today and was told I'm not going to get it and was hung up on. I am now trying my 7th phone call. Customer service with Ego is more than worthless. Buyers beware!!!

Warrantee is a nightmare

Bought a lawnmower for it to die in the first 6 months. It has been a month now that I have been fighting the warrantee. Ego has told me three times now "Call back in __ days. After that time span we can escalate." It is never escalated or handled they just keep telling me to call back later. Sent me to two "service centers" and neither could work on the mower (one was a Lowe's). The Lowe's I took it to sent it too a third party repair facility. They have no idea where it is just the it is scheduled for repair. Now I have nothing but a piece of paper and a half mowed lawn.

EXCELLENT weed eater, HORRIBLE support

EXCELLENT weed eater! None better in the universe.
PRODUCT SUPPORT when there is an issue is AMAZINGLY HORRIBLE!!!!!!
There was an issue on day 1 with the feed at the bottom of the weed eater. The part required would be shipped to me. That was June/24. Numerous phone calls & emails from me to them over the ensuing months. The part arrived today, Oct 23/24. I went thru the entire Canadian summer without. How incompetent is that?!?!?!? By the way: they sent, in 2 separate boxes, the same part. Not great for EGO profitability.

I bought an 18 inch EGO chainsaw and used it maybe 1 hour. The chain tightening system stopped working so I was instructed to return it to Northern Tool for repairs. That was 4 to 5 weeks ago and still no parts to repair my saw. Called EGO and they will check on it. No possibly of a refund or replacement. I checked online and it seems that this is a common problem with this saw. Beware of EGO. No service at all. Bert Ruege

EGO: A Company of Liars and Thieves

Purchased a sealed box from Lowe's with their 765 CFM Blower and 5 AH battery. Lowe's said they don't open the boxes and returns from other customers have to go back to EGO for repackaging. The blower came with the wrong battery! Instead of the 5 AH battery it had a 2.5 AH battery inside the box. Lowe's refused to take the return since it was outside the return window (48 hours). EGO support was unbelievably dismissive. I escalated the case to a manager who was even more dismissive. She (Amanda) couldn't get off the phone fast enough. Then she sends me an email that says they're not willing to do anything and she closes the case. She didn't even give me a chance to respond. I tried to email back and received an email that the case was closed. I've read a lot of other complaints with EGO packaging products incorrectly and not fixing the problem for customers. I just can't stand behind a company that does this. Very dishonest and shady behavior. The company is full of liars and thieves.

Called about a battery that was gradually failing...now it is only good for 5 minutes. Called their customer support line. Apparently my warranty is 29 days over the 3 years. They told me to buy a battery. I asked to speak with someone or lodge a complaint they told me there was no such thing. The rep said they could put a note on My account and "hope someone reads it". What a shame I invested in several tools over the last 3 years (snow blower, chainsaw, mower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, leaf blower. Let's hope they don't fail less than 30 days outside of warranty. I Do not recommend that you buy ego equipment.

Terrible product. Terrible customer service

I purchased an EGO mower (Power+ Select Cut LM2156SP 21 in. 56 volt Battery Self-Propelled Lawn Mower Kit)
In May 2021. It lasted 3 summers before dying. We live in a climate where we only need to mow our lawn about once every two weeks for about 3-4 months a year, so it wasn’t heavily used.

After going through a frustrating and redundant 30 minute call with EGO support to confirm the mower was in fact not working, we were told to drop it off at a equipment repair shop that was an hour back and forth drive from our house. Apparently, there aren’t many EGO service centers.

I dropped the mower off on May 20 and for 4 MONTHS we waited. Every two weeks the service center called EGO and heard nothing back. They had entire back room full of EGO equipment that needed repairs but that they couldn’t do anything with because they could never get in touch with the company.

After 4 months, EGO finally responded and shipped us a new mower. The “new” mower came in a damaged box without a battery or a charger. EGO said we had to drive an hour back and forth to the service center to retrieve the original battery. They refused to send us a new battery. Even though we didn’t use our mower for an entire season and EGO was unresponsive to the service center, they refused to give us an extra year on the warrantly.

THIS IS AN 800.00 LAWN MOWER. The customer service is terrible. These products do not last. They are unresponsive to their service providers. Save yourself the angst and the time and just get a Honda.

just stick to gas

At first the mower seemed fine. worked like it was advertised. problem is the run time began to shorten. grass that was still short somehow used up more energy. next was the battery. it began to have difficulty charging after a few months use and now it does not work at all. they have the outlandish price of 300$ for the weaker battery and up to 700$ for the higher end one which probably will die just as fast. yes electric is better for environment but if it costs more or the same as a gas mower every year then its cheaper to go to a gas mower. also it actually looses power as time goes on, a gas mower wont stall out as many times as this has. then there is customer support. the fact that in this day of digital, which is faster, more reliable as well as ease of communication. they are Phone call only. this is bad since there is a higher chance of miscommunication, no paper trail for any issue, chance of call drop or being hung up on, as well as bad reception. this is yet another way to push obvious issues away as they can easily loose the recording and logs, hang up on you, or any other way of putting off responsibility. email is not needed but either email or chat. If someone is on stand by for a phone call. they can answer a chat message.
I used electric due to ease of use and upkeep, but if the parts are this expensive it is far cheaper to replace sparkplugs, pumps, and other parts than buy from them. gas has more power and reliability. If all the electric can offer is environmental then its not much of a change and its obviously not a 'cheaper" option as they far out price what is needed. If price of gas is 5$ a gallon(high pricing). most mowers can get atleast 1 month of use out of a gallon and only needs to be used for the growing months of spring and summer. meaning atmost you may spend 60$ on gas a year way on the high end. i got about 1 year (2 6 month time) out of the mower and now i need a new battery that is atleast 300$. so a gas mower with more power than their electric for about 300$ plus average of 60$ a year in gas and far less in oil and parts. yea the only thing going for them is environmental. the emissions of almost all mowers is miniscule compared to the constant changing of batteries that cost more than a new lawnmower and is just as environmentally damaging to make.
so for the price of one of their electric push mowers, just buy a good riding mower. or better yet buy gas push and save about 800$ for a new tv or something else.

BUYER BEWARE!!

BUYER BEWARE!!! I purchased a blower with battery and charger. The 4.0 battery lasts 4 minutes tops. This kit (bought on Amazon is supposed to be warrantied for 3 years on the battery and charger and 5 for the blower) however they make you jump through so many hoops. Darlene (previous rep) tells you one thing and you do it and now it's not good enough. Call again and speak to 7491Pablo (customer service rep) is so rude and condescending... I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER EGO AGAIN!!! Too expensive for garage service and garbage products with fake reviews and fake warranties. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

Bought a rapid load trimmer June 2024

Bought a rapid load trimmer June 2024. The head stopped working Sep 2024. I used the trimmer 3 times. I was told that I am 6 days past the warranty. I get the 90 day trimmer head warranty, but they could’ve worked with me a little. A waste of 200.00. I will not buy ego products again.

My EGO edge trimmer flammed out last…

My EGO edge trimmer flammed out last April 2024. I called them, sent pictures and the sent me a return authorization immediately. However with many promises and lots of phone calls and emails from me, they did not ship a return unit till end of June. I used the replaced unit immediately and was worried as it only ran for a small time, needed to rest and then worked again. This happened twice. Today it would not work at all. Since I have other EGO products I tested the battery to assure it was charged and working, it was.
Called EGO and was informed that replacement units have no warranty on them....not a fan!

Ego has not returned my edger tool after a service issue

My multi head power tool stopped working. EGO told me to take it to Lowe’s with a battery and one of the tools. I dropped off my power head, the edging tool, and a battery. They called and said it could not be fixed. They were sending a replacement to my house ant the edger and battery would be returned to the Lowe’s. I got the new power tool in the mail. I went to Lowe’s to get the battery and tool. They only had the battery and the edging tool disappeared. EGO escalated the report to a Supervisor and no one has got back to me and it’s been 4 months since my tool stopped working. I have spoke with EGO at least 4 or 5 times and they say they’ll call back and never do. BE CAREFUL!!! You’ve been warned.
