So disappointing

Literally no games to play in comparison to previous years. Didn't get that exciting buzzing feeling of discovering new gems. Instead the few games / experiences there were, were jammed together in tiny narrow corridor style displays so it was difficult to even access. What happened this year ? It was mostly shopping / tok tok stand taking up the hall space. Shocking to pay £25 for a ticket and £25 for parking for such little to do.

EGX is an empty shell of its former self.

Only 2 major publishers and CoD that had a booth but wouldn't let us play the MWIII beta until 6pm which is exactly when it opens to be public as in for people at home. What's the point?

I saw that EGX has massively downgraded since COVID but I wanted to at least see for myself that it couldn't be that bad. And it was. If you're going with a group of friends with the intention of playing games (that have already released) together then you'll have a good time. If you're going to look at new stuff then don't waste your money save up and go to Gamescom instead. Or MCM since that's going to have the FFVII Rebirth demo there.

Complete waste of money

Complete waste of money. I last went in 2014 and compared to thenthis was empty with very little to no support from PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo. There was very little to play and what games I did want to play I had to queue up over an hour for. A complete disaster.

EGX 2023 was so poor that I am ashamed to have attended

First red flag should be the short queue at 11am. Most years (even 2022), the waiting area is full. This year, it was a handful of people.

There were very few stands, many of which were for TikTok and for obscure livestreamers most people don't recognise or care about.

Merch stands were mostly overvalued (for their condition and rarity) second-hand Pokémon cards, the only AAAs preeent were remakes of older games and about a third of the indies were Age of Empires knock-offs.

On top of all of that, the security were so pathetic that they let Just Stop Oil in to ruin the experience for the handful of people who hadn't already left the event in a fit of rage (this is coming from an environmentalist BTW).

Finally, all the fake social media posts making the event look like it's still as it was in the mid 2010s is childish at best and fraudulent at worst.

In short, this event alone makes me regret all of my eight previous visits to this expo and if the organisers bother to read this, they need to change radically or stop the event as this is just embarrassing.

Wish I had looked at these reviews before heading up for the day on Sunday after seeing a VERY MISLEADING add pop up! Made it look busy and full of fun when it was in fact a barren wasteland that could be viewed in an hour. OK if you were going to the LANs then fine but is should be advertised as such. How can you sell a full weekend ticket and expect happy customer?!

Probably one of the worst years ever compared to previous years.

I went in 2019 and it was a full hall which you didn’t have enough time to go around the whole place. There was so much to do.

2023 was a shambles, it was bare bones, hardly anything to do. So much empty space.

Not going again next year. Waste of money.

What a con!

It’s completely dead. Took a two hour train journey, went through the long zig zag entrance to a completely empty show floor. Couple of stands and that’s it!?!?! What on earth went wrong EGX? 2019 and earlier was excellent, what a shame.
Time to look elsewhere, you should not have charged for that farce.

Disappointed

Last time I went back in 2019 it was a full hall with plenty to see and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Fast forward to 2023 with high hopes i am extremely disappointed. It was a half empty hall with no where near as much to do and see. People walking round with faces of shock and disappointment. Spent about two hours and then left.

EGX: What Happened!?

2019 was incredible; so with that expectation I went to the 2023 with such excitement.

It is bare bones in here! Literally nothing to do, absolutely awful!

Waste of money: £30 tickets and the £25 parking and the journey up here.

Not only am I disappointed, my friends are and I've heard lot's of people walk past muttering how awful it is...

Let down again

Let down again! 2014 to 2019 was the best for Egx and I've been holding out hope since then for it to be good again but no let down again! Empty floor spaces! Could have more merch stalls, hardly any AAA games and they charge ridiculous amounts for a superpass when you can do the show in 1 day 😔 also it's there 15 year anniversary I thought it was going to be massive this year but no!

EGX 2023 is a tragedy

EGX 2023 is a tragedy. Previous events (2019 and earlier)were bustling, exciting hives of activity, games, sounds, music and unique experiences. 2023 is a barren wasteland of empty floorspace, already released games (and very few of them) lacklustre stalls and absent developers and publishers. No Xbox, no PlayStation, Nintendo has a single game on show, even the once thriving indie section is anaemic, although it was the only interesting section. This once great institution of a show has seemingly been on a tragic downward spiral for a few years, but 2023 is rock bottom. Really, really sad.

Egx 2023 waste of time

So 2023 egx they have hardly any new games there just feels like a card game event bought a hole weekend ticket when you can get it all done in 1 day or less. So much floor space for other stuff also don't waste your time.

EGX is a shell of its former self and…

EGX is a shell of its former self and 2022 was the worst one so far.

No PlayStation, No Xbox, No Nintendo… and the queues for what was there meant you were looking to queue for several hours for, in most cases, games you could already purchase and play at home.

None of the display units were particularly interesting and it all felt like a budget event, not a professional games expo.

It was so bad we ended up leaving and most likely won’t go again.

Worst year yet

Worst year yet. We bought weekend early bird tickets and wished that we didn’t. Barely any un released games to look forward to (think it was sonic fronteers) this is basically a comicon now with all the stalls. No xbox or playstation, not even a virgin media stand and they’re sponsors!!

Very disappointed and most likely won’t be going again.

Used to love going to this event

Used to love going to this event, but I have lost all trust in the company after 2021.

The event was advertised as a typical EGX, just with limited spaces. Based on the "tickets are selling fast" announcements from EGX over social media, I felt glad I'd bought my super pass tickets as soon as I could. I booked my hotel and everything ready for 4 days of gaming content.

A week before the event, EGX announced that certain stands wouldn't be present at the event, such as Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo... I considered that it might not be worth attending at this point, however EGX has a no refunds policy and they'd charged full price for the tickets £75 each, I didn't want to lose that and I kind of figured that they would make it up some how.

When I entered the hall and saw all the empty space, I realised that I'd had too much faith in the company. There was very little to do, definitely not enough for 4 days. And oh boy did I try.

We went home early in the end, fortunately our hotel refunded us for the nights we didn't stay. I just wish that the event had been advertised more honestly from the on set, that the refund rules had been loosened after the announcement that basically no one was going to be there.

People looking to join the games industry probably would have still gotten something out of it for four days with all the talks and things. But going for entertainment? Not a chance.

There was so many ways they could have handled this, but they chose to dig their heels into the ground and pretend it was a great event for everyone.

Awful customer service

The super pass was supposed to come with a merchandise pack but it was missing the pin sent 3 emails to support and they ignored my 3rd email

Event not as advertised, customer support awful

Bought the superpass event tickets for EGX 2021 which included access to the event for four days, the show was full of huge empty spaces and very little to do, completely unlike previous years. What I paid for and what was advertised was definitely not what I got, information about the event only went up a week before it started, the app is full of ads, feels like they only want your money.

I left by 1:40 on the first day. Customer support has been horrendous and just hide behind their no refund policy. I've contacted them twice and both times they keep closing the case. I'm now chasing this with Trading Standards, my bank and any other consumer champions I can find to try and get nearly £80 back from them.

Avoid going at all costs, they've shown they can't be trusted to run an event and look after their customers.
